Possessed's edits of the Prequel Trilogy (* unfinished project *)

sounds neat. looking forward to see what you change.

 Thanks for the support :)

Some info on release.  There will be made available a torrent of an about 700 MB AVI files at first. If they are well recieved and people are interested I will then release a single layer DVD with about 4 GB devoted to the movie and the rest on any extras and menus and such. (Mainly just recycling extras... I don't know why I just kinda have an OCD where everything I release has to be complete and polished and a dvd without menus and extras just doesn't feel right. Probably just some trailers, maybe a music video, and an edited down making of from the official DVD)

The sound will be a 2.0 Dolby Surround track to save space and to make it easier for me to add in music and edit things. It will be 100% dolby pro logic II compatible, so if you have a decoder you'll still MOST of the surround experience, minus the dialogue being exclusively center-channel.

Also on Phantom Menace most saber blades will be brightened to match the rest of the saga.

(I made "fixed" versions of that for Empire, which also includes changing certain SE changes back to original. Mostly dialogue... Vaders shuttle is once a gain only brought, not prepared. Also Ian Emperor dialogue trimmed to match original emperor and darkened to look more like Jedi Emperor. Not sure if I'll release this, but if anybody's interested I might. Also I'm doing a full Jedi edit as well which will also fix the blades)

Possessed's edits of the Prequel Trilogy (* unfinished project *)

Yeah yeah, I know… ANOTHER edit of the prequel trilogy. At first glance, it may seem the same as all others when you read this.

These edits have my intent to bring the prequel trilogy closer in feel to the original trilogy. The story will not be altered in any way, just the way it is told.

To do this I am going to edit it with a streamlined approach. No filler, not bulk, lean and fast paced, like ANH and ESB.

Also to get that “Star Wars” feel, I will be adding music from the original trilogy into the films in places. Not completely replacing music, the “Main themes” of the prequel trilogy will still be present. After all, ANH, ESB, and ROTJ all had their own respective themes. Mainly just adding the force them in more, as well as adding in OT music where it fits. (Major thanks to Master Qui-Gon for inspiration on this… will be “borrowing” some of his ideas 😃)

Also I will be doing a SMALL amount of color correction. Nothing major, mainly just desaturating a bit so they aren’t sore on the eyes. I’ll give some scenes more attention than others of course. Don’t worry, I’ve done some experimenting already and there won’t be any “pale faces” or such.

These edits will be for those of you that liked the story of the prequel trilogy, but would like the storytelling to be closer to the original trilogy.

I’ll post some previews soon.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 <strong>REVISITED</strong> ADYWAN *<em>1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION</em>

I see adywan has released a 1080p bluray version of the EP4, but it only has colour correction and fixed greedo scene.

so my question is:

Will we ever see a 1080p version of the full Revisited edit?  I suppose that would depend largely on whether he made his original edits in 1080p... which is probably unlikely :-(

This has been addressed multiple times. No, it will not.

Aaaaw. Are there any theatrical versions that are actually good quality with the correct color that are available on dvd? Or do you if there is any way to convert this to DVD format?

Open the file with VirtualDubMod. Use the resize filter to downscale it to a dvd appropriate size. Use a lossless compression to save as an AVI (although if you are cramped for space and time for it to compress I've found that using XVID and putting the quality to the highest setting works fine and any loss in quality is not noticeable) Then use a high quality mpeg2 encoder (like perhaps HC) and encode an mpeg2, then use a dvd authoring utility to make a VIDEO_TS folder of the file then burn with Imgburn.

I'm sorry if I'm rather unclear, I'm terrible at explaining things.

Ok I watched this and was AMAZED and I mean AMAZED.... This guy is a genius, He sure shown Mr Lucas how this should of been done.... I have seen the trailers all over youtube and on the DVD for Adywan's

SW EP V -ESB, but where do I get it? has it been completed and released? will he be doing SW EPVI - RotJ?

This guy is a SW god....

Thankyou for all your hard work.... AMAZING TRULY AMAZING

EP V has not been completed. Any torrent you see for it is just Ady's colour corrected version of the 97 SE (technically the 2004 version with edits to revert it back to it's 97 state). He is working on V and he will do the whole saga. But that's far off, V will probably see a release date of 2010.

With my Prequel Trilogy more or less finished (although I will be doing to revisions for the DVD versions to improve their quality further), I've now started work on this edit. :)

That's great! I've always wondered why there is such a small amount of fanedits of ROTJ. Everybody does the prequels, which need it, but ROTJ needed it as well. I am also working on one of my own, but I probably won't release it.

I look forward to seeing yours!

Was watching ESB:GOUT tonight and made a new observation.

If you look outside the base doors as they’re being closed, it’s very dark outside (you can see twilight on the horizon), but in the next scene (Luke’s vision and Han finding him) it’s still daylight. The distance between the two locations would not be sufficient to explain the difference in light levels; it’d have to be at least a few hundred miles on an Earth-sized planet. If we take the idea that only equatorial Hoth is habitable (borne out in the EU but also by a simple consideration of the basic physics involved), that minimum stretches to 1000 miles. Darkening the second scene would help continuity and also (in my opinion) add tension. Should be quite simple to achieve compared to the rest of what Adywan’s doing for this film. Your thoughts, Ady?

Also when Luke collapses before seeing Kenobi's spirit, I hate how the amount of snow on Luke changes from shot to shot. From a lot to a little and back.

the scene was darkened for the SE. plus twilight would seem a lot lighter when outside due to the snow coverage. i hate the way the amount of snow on luke changes too but there isn't much i can do about it i'm afraid.

Couldn't you just add more of a wind sound to the scene? Then it could seem as if the wind is constantly blowing snow off of his face (since a face is curved it wouldn't stay there even if the wind angle is constant) and then blowing new snow on it. You could also perhaps see if you could add more snow blowing in the wind.

Otherwise it's a secret.... A disappointing one! Lol! However, I worked step by step (making pre-remasters) and it asked to be well planned. And last but not least, I took all the time it needed.

I know the secret I know the secret! Haha but don't worry your secret is safe with me ABC. (You mentioned it in a pm once). But it's not disappointing, I mean look at how good the original Star Wars movie was, and it was made by incredibly...er... "bootleg" methods (though that's not exactly what I mean, unconventional might be better!) Yet with both products the result is great!

Wouldn't this topic work better in the after Adywan thread?

Strictly speaking (unless Ady makes announcements to contrary) ANH:R is done with and anyone making further adjustments to it is effectively making a new edit.

I did talk about it in the After adywan thread but not everybody checks there I figured more people would be interested if I posted it here. And I'm not really making a new edit, just a new audio mix for people who know how can mux.

Could you do it with a little better video quality?  It was so far pixelated that you couldn't see the lip sync, which I think is part of what you were concerned about in the first place, right?

No actually the video isn't the point at all. I revamped the audio. The video is just there so you can tell what scene it is. I'm not concerned about sync. Just listen to the audio and compare it to Revisited, it's much better I think (not that Ady didn't do a great job with Revisited, but his skills were much more in the video department, and his audio edits are good but he didn't really touch up the source). When I finish it I will distribute an ac3 without a video for people to mux themselves.

Actually Han's line that you replaced stands out and is quite jarring. I think it may be because Leia's line echos and either her echo changes just before Han speaks or her echo is cut off, either way I'm sorry but to me its jarring and noticeable. Maybe you could try to blend Han's line a little better?

Well yeah that was just hastily thrown together for the preview, just to show what I'm doing. I think the reason it's jarring is because of the difference in background ambience (which I will fix). The echoes wouldn't be the problem, because the echoes are in the other channels and I only cut things from the center channel. (eq to all channels though)

I will spend much more time with blending it in when I make the final version.

But other than that did everything sound good?

Okay, here's the trash compactor scene. Video is shit to save space. Only a little bit of the scene is used. Audio is full quality. The audio is not perfectly synced, but don't worry this is because of offtiming in me inserting the video to see what's going on and not in the audio, everything is timed exactly the same as Revisited.http://rapidshare.com/files/204250774/Possessed_Trash_Compactor_Preview.avi.html

I've decided against completely reinsterting the dialogue because of differences in ambience, and rather just graphic equalizing certain lines to sound better/blend better, and only using the pcm if it was REALLY bad. I did that once here, "Absoloutly your worship look I had everything under control until you led us down here" has been replaced. Several other lines were graphic equalized. Equalization over the whole thing just to improve quality.

@Possessed:  Actually, the '97 SE surround mix from the Japanese laserdissc was used.  Not disagreeing that it could use some work, but it still manages to be better than the '04 mix.

Ah, well thanks for the clarification. I just assumed it was the 04 mix because of some of the issues with the dialogue that I remembered from the 2004 mix, but I haven't watched the official 2004 dvd since revisited came out so I didn't remember. Now that you mention it I did compare and it does sound better than the offical 04 mix. Actually I think I will listen to the revisited track again and see if it needs to be completely replaced dialogue. I know the trash compactor scene could benefit from this, but I may not need to do it for the whole thing like originally planned. Perhaps I could do the trash compactor scene and upload a low video quality avi but with full audio quality of the trash compactor scene to show what I'm doing?

Well if that's the case then I guess I can just forget about watching Revisited on a TV then. But thanks for the information, the problem is that downloading the 1-gig .avi took a day and a half, so I absolutely cannot download something thats 4/8 gigs...

But anyways, thanks for clearing things up.

Not necasserily, I purchased the fullscreen dvd boxset a long time ago before I understood about such things, and now I downloaded the 2 gig avi files for them to burn and put in my dvd cases to have them in wide screen and they looked gorgeous.

Also, I thought I'd announce here than I am, with permission, going to give the audio in ANH:R a revamp and just distribute the ac3 file for you guys that care enough about audio to mux yourselves.

What I'll be doing is removing MOST dialogue from the 2004 mix there and replacing it from the 1993 pcm tracks with some slight noise reduction. Not only does it sound great, but it's more consistent than the 2004 mix which (was used for this edit) sounds horrible in spots because Lucasfilm felt the need to splice all dialogue from a number of different sources together, the result terrible. (see the trash compactor sequence, which sounds loads worse than on the pcm track). After I've finished with that I'm going to apply a carefully developed EQ setting to most places (except where battle of the heroes comes in, because obviously it woujld make it sound wierd) to improve tone quality to the rest of the trilogy, instead of sounding thin like it does now, or like it was recorded in a tin can.

ADigitalMan's Guide to MPEG2/AC3 Editing
Time

I think I've discovered a work around for Womble not saving with Subtitles. Add in a long black bar at the bottom or top of the video before editing in Womble, hardcode the subtitles there, then export a lossless avi of it that way. Then use the virtualdub filter to extract hardcoded subtitles (since all the subtitles should be in the black bar it should read it accurately) and crop out the bar with subtitles and re export. Then just mux the new subtitle file when you burn the DVD.
