Then what’s the finale?

“What are looking at me for?” Listen to Starkiller.

EDIT: I haven’t got a clear plan in mind, but I would like to see a finale with the main focus on the fight against the FO and especially the civil fleet. Ideally Ben and Rey should lead them from the falcon. Some sort of a Stormtrooperrebellion or at least a scene of Kylo freeing these enslaved soldiers would be a great addition too.

EDIT2: And most importantly we should never see Exegol or cultist. Our protagonist’s obsession with the past and legacies should literally be the distraction, which keeps them from defeating the FO.
On top of that I would like to imply, that the obsession with the past and their predecessors, namely the Empire or Exegol (just invent another ancient Sith-Empire) should be the thing that keeps the FO running.

A bit radical, but…
…what do you think about removing Palpatine and the fleet of deathstardestroyers (why is this even a thing???) entirely and keep the Wayfinder and the Sith homeworld as merely another shadow of the past, which Kylo seeks to destroy.
Maybe give him !one! deathstardestroyer or a (few) dreadnaught+ to raise the stakes.

Recently I have been thinking about Rogue Leaders idea regarding the stormtrooper on Snoke’s ship. I like the idea, but I think such a scene would benefit Finn’s character from TFA better.
In TLJ Finn’s struggle is not to renounce evil and escape, but in TFA it is. So seeing other stormtroopers showing passive resistance would fit TFA better.
In TLJ it would not add much to the story, because Finn’s arc is to fight for a cause bigger than himself and stormtroopers resigning the fight does not enforce this trope.

Luckily I think we could create a scene like this for TFA.
The first shot would be Finn peeking around the corner, the first shot from inside SKB after the arrival of the resistance is almost perfect. Then we will use the shot of the two stormtroopers that evade Kylo’s rage after Rey’s escape. Some vfx may be needed to erase those sparks, although the whole left part of the screen could be covered using a still image. (thank god it’s a static shot 😃 )
This could be intercut with a reaction shot of Finn and maybe a closeup of the stormtroopers lowering their weapons.
What do you think?

RogueLeader, YES. There’s been a lot of chat about other elements of the sequel trilogy but TROS absolutely drops Finn’s plot off a cliff, and it needs something like this to make it relevant throughout the full trilogy. Overdubbing the stormtroopers is a great idea, and a solution for TROS also needs to be found. I wish there were some way we could have elements of the First Order fleet turn against the Final Order fleet, but that’s likely beyond our scope.

Maybe some Stardestroyers could stop firing during the finale. If there is a way to keep Hux until the end, we could reuse his small hologram from the opening of TLJ asking why they aren’t fighting.

I wish there was a way to make Finn and Poe smooch in the finale aaagh

Still need some time to think about it but I may have an idea for how we can imply something between them.

Change Finn’s line during the quicksand scene from Rey… to Poe…

Edit:
Your idea about Finn’s influence on other Stormtroopers sounds great.

That’s a fair question, but it applies equally to the original TFA. I bet that Resistance shoe covers it.

Well in the original cut, the SKB destroyes the Republc and the laser beam is visible across the galaxy. That the FO has a new superweapon is obvious. But these clues are missing from restructured.
Possible replacements that came to my mind where:
A) Hux speech broadcasted on the Holo-Net
B) Finn informing the Resistance (requires a slight restructure of the D‘Qar scenes; Finn Talking to Leia would need to be trimmen and placed directly after their arrival on D‘Qar)
C) Place Reys interogation shortly after the Takodana fight and connect the Reylos mindbattle to Leia receiving a vision, which shows the destruction of the Republic, etc. (this could also tie in nicely with the force connection between Ben and Leia.

I really like the idea to remove the Deathstar aspect of SKB.
And based on his, what do you think about removing the second part of the map altogether.
The map the Resistance received from Lor san Tekka may be incomplete or damaged and on D’Qar Finn is lying to the Resistance, telling them that the FO has the missing information, because he just wants to save Rey.
And during Kylos interogation of Rey she has a vision of Ahch-To, which leads her there in the end and explains why the Resistance sent her as well.

Just finished watching it, really great work Hal and a shoutout to anybody that has been involved.
The restructure really improves the finale. But one thing bothered me and I don’t know if this has been pointed out already. How does the Resistance know about SKB and its weapon power? The “Inform the Republic” scene and Finn being introduced to Leia scene imply that they do, although it has been build in secret and hasn’t been used yet.(Poe even refers to it as the base and the weapon-system)

Somehow the Resistance has to find out about SKB, maybe show that Hux Nazi-speech has been broadcasted across the galaxy?

If it doesn’t have to impact the story at all, I guess you could replace the trooper’s comment about the Knights of Ren with something like, “I’m gay.”

With the difference that this is on the same plain as two women kissing each other in the background for 1 bloody second, a bit weak in my opinion and truly useless.
With Paige and Rose it is different, in the beginning Paige is in the main focus of the movie and her relationship with Rose is shown through the amulet, which Rose has to “sacrifice” to save the rebellion against their oppressors. And even better DJ returns it to her.

Why not cut the Fin Rose romance from 8 and retcon Paige from being Rose sister to being her wife and turn their amulet into some sort of wedding ring.

jaw drops Why make Rose lesbian?

I’m of the Taika Waititi camp, that if it doesn’t serve the story, a scene hinting at sexual orientation is just useless. If we’re trying to normalize things, we should treat those characters as people. I never had to see who Luke wanted to sleep with, to follow his story.

I just don’t know how you could pull that off, without a lot of work.

Fair enough, it wouldn’t serve the story in any way, but nonetheless I would like to see a LGBTQ character in SW especially after they promoted TROS for doing it.
In terms of editing I would simply cut every moment Rose mentions her sister or try to replace sister with something like ?wife?, ?spouse? or ?partner?.(I am no native speaker, I don’t know exactly which one is appropriate, could somebody please help me out?
And then I would cut the kiss and the “not fighting what…” line.

It’s a bit of an uphill battle, just to offend some people who probably wouldn’t see the cut anyway. I would love to see a gay Star Wars character…but I want there to be more substance to that character, besides their orientation. The Mandalorian would still be a good show, if the protagonist ended up gay, because there’s more to them than that. It’s just a problem I see with Disney at times, where the political statement is more important than the story.

I agree that building a character around queerness is stereotypical and that it isn’t worth it, if my single goal was to offend these people, but because Rose has seemingly died in-between 8&9, I think this is a golden opportunity. During the holidays I will toy around with the ideas, if it works out well, perfect, if it doesn’t, who cares?

I think I would have preferred something more nuanced, but I think it would be difficult to re-edit it too radically.

You may most certainly right on this one. And I can see your point of view, that Rey “defended herself”, although it was far from an act of compassion. Basically it was the reversal of the Fin not crashing the super gun.

I would like to see an edit which aims to replace the fight fire with fire approach with a peaceful solution. The grand finale of the Skywalker Saga can’t be hateful, but needs to be compassionate, that’s what being a true Jedi is all about and what Shmi was raising her son to be.
We have seen Rey heal monsters two times in this movie, Palpatine is like the ultimate monster and his body is crippled (look at his fingers, wehhh…), why not let her “heal” him during the scene in which Palpatine wants her to strike him down. She could disempower her literal evil grandpa and put him in retirement home (metaphorically speaking).

Maybe we could change the dialog of the force-time-call during Palpatine’s speech to “I know what I have to do…” and have them touch hands or hug and then cut to Palpatine screaming in terror, crushing his temple with force lightning, while his finger regenerate. You would have to work mainly with the sound design and maybe some closeups of their faces (and fingers lol). During the collapse of the temple or planet, Ben may save Rey via teleportation, resurrect her if needed and die. Ideally Ben would stay on Endor, because then Rey could burn his corpse the way Luke did with Vader. This would draw another desperately needed connection between Ben and Anakin, the bloody Protagonist of this show, who is absent during the whole third act.

Obviously most of this would require a lot f clever editing and I don’t know whether or not this is possible at all, but anyways this may be the place to make it happen.

I posted a short while ago about how I would have liked to see TROS remove the extremes of the Jedi and Sith orders and replace them with the “grey” as has been bandied about for a while now…I said I thought TROS brought a smidge of that to light but did not see it through.

I just read this comment in the following YouTube video about the Easter eggs in the movie (I got almost all of them but they aren’t that difficult to spot)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NajCKoU4x8k

The post is from someone called “Tyler Rice” and I was intrigued.

  1. Anikan was created by palpatine, allowing palpatine to control how powerful he could become, while Rey, still from palpatine, was not under his control and was able to keep growing, and because the force chose her as the true chosen one it made her strong.

  2. Rey and kylo form the dyad, two foce sensitive beings connected to become stronger, thing yin and yang. Rey came from darkness and went to light while kylo came from light and went to darkness. They form one complete chosen one, the dyad.

  3. When they healed each other bits of their life force went into themselves meaning they exchanged energies , kylo with his dark energy and rwy with her light energy. In the end rey ended up with light and dark within her which is why she had a yellow saber in the end, she had officially become a grey Jedi, or Skywalker have you.

  4. The prophecy always said that the chosen one would bring true balance to the force. Well after return of the Jedi, Luke was what was lefy, a Jedi. The force can not be balanced while one extreme side of the spectrum still exists. So when palpatine returned he took kylo so Rey and like remained. All the Skywalker’s died and kylo basically transfered his life force into her and her being a palpatine makes her lightpath still have darkness in it as well meaning she is a grey Jedi or Skywalker meaning that both pure Jedi and pure sith were gone forever, achieving real balance in the force.

Thoughts?

On paper this sounds well thought out, but what the grand finale shew was once more the destruction and ultimately the denial of evil. Without being aware of evil you can’t evaluate its influence on you nor have a balanced view.
