for example the laserdisc dts versions of goldeneye, and tomorrow never dies blow the new dts tracks away. why is that? well the picture quality is not as good, but the laserdisc is at full bitrate not so for the dvd's.
Preservation opportunity then?

Obviously this is a pretty bad first try, but I think the overall principal could really be used to get the new emperor looking ROTJ and not ROTS

Hey, awhile ago I was reading through a thread about Ian McDiarmid in the Empire Strikes Back. People were talking about the hologram scene and how the replaced emperor didn’t look anything like the emperor in RotJ like he was supposed to. Somebody went through in photoshop, put a shadow here and there, did whatever, and Palpatine looked exactly like he does in RotJ. McDiarmid’s neck lost a little flab, the eyes looked right, it was perfect.
I’ve searched and searched, I know it was here in these forums, but the thread’s been buried or I just don’t know what thread to look in. Does anyone know which thread this was? It was easily at least a year ago. Or does anyone have an idea of how to mask the neck-flab of Palpatine in the Empire Strikes Back?

Sorry for my chicanery. I was very proud, but the project got really rushed at the end, and when I finally reviewed it I hated what I saw. I'll take the weekend to fix it. Final specs will be:
DVD9 NTSC
-Anamorphic video (of course)
-5.1 mix
-Stereo pcm mix
-Animated menus
and we'll definitely talk Gonzo

OLD POST
Hypothetically, if someone wasn’t able to access their hd where their edit of episode I and III was sitting because it’s on another computer which is sitting in limbo due to troubles with the motherboard and they’re borrowing a friend’s computer that has a bunch of space and they were bored so they just kinda plopped Spiderman 2 onto a timeline and selected the “cutting” tool and they have one more day with the thing before it goes back on Sunday and they kinda went through it for fun and suddenly asked you “what little things might you like to see “disappear” from SP2 (other than the countless bugs…haha joke on XP service pack 2)”…what might you say to them?
Okay, just finished it. No seriously, actually finished it.
DISC
-stereo pcm mix
-cool dvd menu
-uncool dvd submenus (explain later)
CHANGES (more or less)
-new title (Spectacular Spiderman) cause I saw the thread on Spence’s Amazing Spiderman, and was like…what would a sequel to that be called? So I took a parellel Spiderman comic. You could call Spiderman 3 ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN! Huh?
-lame-ass music montage in the middle (has been extended! ah jk!)
-groaner dialogue
-asian lady singing the two versions of the spiderman theme gone
-wedding is moved to after we first see Mary Jane’s second thoughts about marriage, so there’s much more tension in the coffee shop when she’s putting her heart out there for Peter (very cool), i did this cause i wanted the wedding scene in the movie, while at the same time having a darker denoument after Spiderman defeats Doc Ock.
-took out the new yorkers coming to spidey’s aid (“you’ll have to go through me!”) cause though behavior such as this we all know is very typical of new yorkers (just watch the Borat movie), it came out all kinda cheesy.
-intelligence is not a privilage all throughout the movie now, Ock doesn’t contradict himself at the end.
new runtime: from 127 minutes down to 112
Anyway, seriously the project is done! PM me if u want a copy. I got a whole trading wishlist and finally have something to trade!

There are three hard drives, one SATA and two IDE with SATA adapters slapped on the back of them (instructions for the adapter say set jumpers to master), the two IDEs have data on them, so I'm don't know if just plugging them in alone would--actually I don't know what I'm afraid of.
I remember there were no beeps from the BIOS when I plugged in a little speaker.

6) See if your dinky little case speaker is connected to the motherboard - its a good diagnostic tool. You need to hear any BIOS beeps.
I just hooked up a speaker to the sound card. I'll make sure the case speaker was hooked up.
11) What's your Power Supply? A P4, and all but the oldest Athlons take a lot of juice. Plus, those CPUs load the +12V line - they used to run on the +5 line, and power supplies are still built off of the old design that pumps out a lot of +5. So you need a mofo of a Power Supply to run a modern CPU, more than one hard drive, and a decent video card. A Dual-Core CPU probably draws close to twice as much...
The power supply, thought I can't remember (nothing's in front of me at the moment

Wow this is a tremendous step up from where I was, thank you and I'll update progress tonight.

Motherboard: MSI P965 Platinum
Processor: Core 2 Duo
Okay, so I set everything up, I have this dealie thing that tells me where the computer's getting "stuck" if it's having trouble booting (which it is). I turn it on. Fans/heatsinks go on, a couple of little clicks from within the hard drives I think I hear, I also think I hear the optical drives doing a quick search, but I get no picture on screen, and my dealie thing has four LEDs that tell me what's going on. The manual translates the current LEDs to this:
Initializing hard drive controller. THis will initialize IDE drive and controller.
Okay, what does this mean? I know the controller is on the motherboard, and the drives are what the IDE cable is plugged into (do the SATA cables have a separate controller?), but what does it mean when the computer is stuck here??? Why do I have no image on the monitor? (video card's heatsink is working and everything). What could be wrong?
I've posted this at a computer forum too, but it's slow go while people actually read the thread through (the first post is a previous problem since solved). I thought I'd try here cause we have so many great people

I guess it's important to mention that everything except my hard drives and optical drives are brand new and as far as I've checked completely compatible, though everything else came off an inferior computer so I figured this should be backward compatible just fine you know?...

-Superbit source? I hear the sound was an improvement, but that's it. Still would be cool as a source.

Both good news and lame news. Just got the most amazing computer--
Core 2 Duo
Gigabyte of ram
Rocking motherboard: MSI JP34...Sex Machine...I don't know
new 250 GB hard drive (old 120 GB and 250 GB hard drives intact thank god and usable in new computer)
Good Graphics card...can't remember brand.
5.1 Sound Card
My old dual layer burner
My old single layer burner
Floppy drive (

Okay, the thing won't start up! A little LED indicator tool tells us there's an issue with the "Initialize IDE controller--This will initialize blah blah" Anyway we're waiting for replies at some computer forums. But if I remember, this damn edit is like 100% done I know it--just need to encode it for realsies. Also the crawl looks wonderful and I got together the 5.1 mix and PCM audio.
Episode III I am practically done with too--new title "Rise of the Empire." It's basically a bunch of very good looking sequences on my timeline that I need to figure out how to put together into one film.
Thanks for remembering

But the atmosphere will match perfectly. I got a brainstorm from a pm from somebody (I'm not signed in yet so I can't check), who was talking about condensing the whole thing into a 4 minute music video. I realized the best way to successfully retain the books stream of conscious narrative is to reorder everything, but to avoid awkward cuts and jumps that just doni't work in a movie, basically there's music playing all the time. basically a two hour long series of music videos (will need soundtrack to fc), loosely one chapter to a song.
Yeah the movie does end differentally too, I got an idea that instead of just using the different ending from the movie, change the ending to make a whole new third ending--I was thinking of tossing in some explosions around Marla and the Narrator just as we fade out--suggesting they've been put into one of the target buildings by Tyler before he died cause he knew all along he'd be shot and...--i dunno, not sure why he would do this--it would kinda make Tyler a monster, when of course in the movie he's a messiah to be trusted by the end and that's such a nice idea...but the point would be to have one more perspective on how FC could have ended.
Okay, I'm past chapter 6 in my note taking--My stragedy of course is when I recognize either a quote/scene/internet spot (from the dvd) I write it down in order it's appearing in the book. I'll post some samples when I can, pages and pages of text--then maybe someone could join in and get the book done twice as fast.--

So what I did was read the book, of course it was great. Then I read it again, and whenever I caught a quote or scene from the movie (which I had almost memorized, of course) I wrote it down in sequential order to see what I could get together. I got a few chapters in and I still have my notes somewhere I think.
I tried putting it together a little bit for fun one weekend and I ended with an opening I thought was really rock.
Opening logos--
TYLER (VO)
This is it, ground zero.
Cut to Tyler holding a gun in Narrator's mouth, scene plays out normally, but instead, right as he says whatever he says right before he's hurled into Bob's bitch tits, reverse real fast to that last frame of the opening credit sequence (pov of gun inside Narrator's mouth) and reverse shot so it's going down the barrel, orchestra starts to play (the alternate music score for the opening sequence), and just as we enter Narrator's nose the techno kicks up and we use more simple, static credits, to give it more of a simple feel (again, movie is perfect, so this truly is an editing by a fan). Right as we reverse all the way to the end of the credit sequence (the original beginning) then we hurl into Bob's bitch tits and then commence an amazing alternate telling of one of the greatest stories of our time.
This is a leftover screencap, I deleted the project, but I could easily start it up again.

Anyway, I wanted to open this up for discussion, how exactly you might reorder it, things you would do (no one dare talk about cutting anything out!). Anyway if you wanna break out your books and collaborate....I think one day this could be real fun--every DVD comes with a homework assignment of course

1/2.35 = x/720. Cross multiply and get x = 306. Subtract that from 360 height for 16:9 dvd video source and you get 54. Divide by 2 and you get 27.
Why is the template 720x486 and not 720x480?
I think 27 each is right, but I don't know why--you said making them 60 pixels each wasn't big enough. Maybe putting together your template with a height of 360 instead makes my equation work. I'm sorry I didn't come in with stock knowledge and instead calculated it myself (and might've calculated it wrong. But that's what I would do.
