It’s nice how everyone has their own views with the ST. While TFA might take a lot from the OT (Death Star 3 is unforgivable, notice they never mention it in the trailers or the promotions or even the movie until it’s relevant) it does establish many great characters that are the focus of TLJ. To each their own.
Also did you like the Canto Bight horses? Curious because you said you liked everything.
Dub Han as Indiana Jones for the entire OT, accompanied by music. And everyone refers to him as Indy.
When the diagona shows up: “snakes… why’d it have to be snakes…”
‘Concept art from the unreleased episodes of Star Wars The Clone Wars’ (seasons 6-8)…
There are moments when I wish Disney hadn’t bought Lucasfilm…
Then I remember Star Wars Detours and thank Iger for all he has done. In a perfect world Clone Wars would have gone to Season 8, but 1 film a year makes it hard to complain.
I think its more interesting to think about than factual, of course over 19+ years Vader killed more. But Luke must of killed a bit in between movies as well, plus he had less time than Vader- so we cannot accurately pinpoint every kill. Comparing on screen deaths in probably the best way to go. It’s a thought experiment.
This reminds me of this: https://www.polygon.com/2015/11/17/9749204/luke-skywalker-kills-supercut-video-vader
I will only be ranking theatrical releases (anything else was never meant to be on par with the rest of the films
- Return of the Jedi- …Luke’s turn to the dark side is my favorite moment in the entire saga.
That doesn’t happen though… ?
His temporary turn when gets angery over Leia’s name and cuts Vader’s hand off.
I will only be ranking theatrical releases (anything else was never meant to be on par with the rest of the films). I like all of these movies. It might seem like I hate them but really I’m just nitpicking an otherwise excellent film.
The Last Jedi is so divisive, it might be better if everyone made their own edit just for themselves.
Instead of Rey leaving because of Luke trying to kill Ben, what if she leaves following the caretaker sequence. Earlier in the movie she says the rebellion needs Luke Skywalker, but in the caretaker sequence she says she doesn’t believe in the legend anymore. A better reason to leave imo. The only problem with this is you’d have to sneak in Rey believing in Kylo’s redemption somehow.
I like the R2 recoloring. Always strange that the droids were in the PT. If an edit made it so he had a different name (R4?) and this recolor it would probably work.
R2-[something else]?
That might be confusing…

I see, do you think I mix the filter altogether? I wanted it to be clear that it was not chronological connected, as if it was a force vision. When Maul hits the fire it goes regular, as we are now in correct chronological order. But maybe it only came off confusing.
I found it hard to transition back and forth to twin sims, especially at the finale. I
wish the clone wars hadn’t been canceled and his arc continued, as the arupt transition is not ideal.
Where exactly was the editing off? I’ll go back and fix any problems (unless they can’t be fixed- some scenes had dialogue right before or after that prevented a longer transition and the crawl end was… difficult).
I wouldn’t mention the sister at all. I’d go as far as cutting Obi-Wan. The whole scenes feels… strange. In ESB he was always lurking around, telling people things through the force. He only shows up to help Yoda convince Luke not to leave. But in ROTJ he just shows up and has a full on conversation with Luke. Sort of takes away from his scarifce- Ben could have tought Luke as a ghost without Yoda. And then there’s the conversation itself, home to certain point of view, ghost on a log, and the sister reveal. I think it would be much more powerful if when Yoda dies Luke truly is alone.
I’m considering doing a radical edit that puts to Throne Room as the climax. I feel like Rey and Kylo’s arcs end here. Crait would be put near the start. This kind of turns the film into a rehash of ESB and ROTJ, but with so many similarities the twists will stand out even more. Also the Sequels are too tonally inconsistent for me, this would make it more like TFA. This is my (current) plan:
The First Order Strikes Back
–Opening crawl establishes that it’s two months since TFA. The Republic’s few ships have been spread thin and the Resistance is the only threat remaining. Finn and Poe are now distinguished commanders, Kylo has been out conquering the inner rim, and Rey has been training with Luke (who is a Jedi).
–First scene is Kylo arriving on the Supremacy. Hux informs Snoke that they have the Resistance on a string, having located their base on Crait. Kylo gets rid of his mask and tells his troops to prepare his ship for the attack.
–Battle of Crait happens, Poe retreats and Finn follows (to remove that scene). Luke suddenly appears, his first appearance. Battle goes as it did only with Luke not dying. Most of the Ach-To training scenes are recut to make it seem like Luke still believes in the Jedi. This also makes Rey more relatable.
–Movie plays out mostly like it did before, the rebels are escaping on the Raddus but are caught by the Supremacy. Recut Rose’s scene to imply her sister died on Crait. Canto Bight trimmed, as others have suggested cut right as they escape prison.
–While in hyperspace the Resistance meets up with a fragment of Republic forces (the other ships). Among them is Vice Admiral Holdo. When the bridge is destroyed, Poe will believe he should be in charge, as he actually fought the first order rather than sit in the senate. Leia dies on the bridge, after Holdo’s sacrifice Poe is put in charge (but it is only then when he comes to respect Holdo).
–After learning the truth about Luke activating his saber on Ben, Rey leaves in anger and thinks she can turn Ben. Yoda comes and this is the last we see of Luke, his death can be saved for 9. Throne Room, Finn v Phasma, and Kamikaze Run make up the climax.
I haven’t made a thread yet because I don’t know if it’s possible, I shall wait for TLJ on DVD. I’m assuming this idea hasn’t been mentioned yet but if it has I won’t do it.
You had somethkng like this planned https://youtu.be/q-Dp6D9a0IQ
Looks cool, though mine tries to tell a more complete longer story.

The edit is complete, I only need to upload it to drive. To be safe I am putting the “release date” on March 9th.
I think Star Wars should be run the same way they’re handling Rian and GoT trilogies. Give someone they trust an empty slate to do whatever they want provided it doesn’t contradict anything. Let them tell their story, the galaxy is big enough for multiple sagas. As someone else pointed out the MCU takes place in real time, SW jumps decades back and forth.
Have you ever given any thought to making Jabba’s Palace not be in Tatooine? Is that even possible? I think it’d be cool to see a new planet, and it’d take the rehashness away from your RotJ even more.
I second this. Always felt weird Jabba just happened to be from Tatooine. This shouldn’t be too hard to do considering the more radical changes/ say a different name in the crawl, cut Luke’s “I used to live here”, and recolor the sand and sky. Perhaps Nal Hutta?
The Eclispe model in action looks great. If you were stlll thinking about making the Executor lightspeed run, what if Piett ordered the attack? The officers have had enough of Vader’s chokings and realize the Eclispe will only bring about more destruction, so they scarifce themselves to stop it. Don’t know how’d you pull this off, but in a perfect world I’d like to see this.
I think you have to import your own still for the starfield behind the crawl.
Yeah, I though so too at first. But when I try and remove the background using after effects it didn’t work. Has anyone made a crawl for an edit before?
UPDATE: The edit is nearly done, all I have to do is the crawl. This is my first time making a professional crawl, so I’m probably doing something wrong. I downloaded DigiMod’s blender project and rendered the crawl, but the background is a solid black screen. How do I get stars to make it fit in with everything else? I tried chroma key but that did nothing, apparently the background is a million different shades of dark black.
Here is a short expert showing how I’m using Twin Suns. I’m playing around with different filters, feedback would be great: https://vimeo.com/258455046

Oh and I decided on the title “Son of Dathomir”. Was between it and “Maul’s Revenge” but turns out 's don’t look nice on the crawl title font.
Don’t know them, but this might help with some: http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Which-trailers-accompanied-the-movies/id/58906
UPDATE: The edit’s coming along nicely. I have completed nearly everything from TCW besides some transitions and begin work on Twin Suns soon. The current cut comes in at 1:49, which I fear is too short. The episodes are very episodic, each with certain fight scenes that didn’t do anything besides fill up the runtime and provide action (ex: Nal Hutta attack, 1st Satine rescue attempt). I ended up cutting more than I thought I would.
I have added a trimmed “Voyage of Temptation” between Brothers and Return. This catches us up to what Obi-Wan doing. I think the lavish starliner with the junk planet is a great contrast that shows the differences in Maul and Obi-Wan’s lives. The scenes also tell us of Obi-Wan and Satine semi-romance and how the Death Watch were once aligned with Count Dokou. It might seem strange for first time viewers cut to a seemingly different plotline, but by the midpoint they’ve converged and the meat of the story can begin.
The trimmed sequence lasts 12 minutes. I’ve cut a lot out of the episode (didn’t want us to forget about Maul) including the other two assassin droids and the smaller droids. https://vimeo.com/257436059

The Rotten Tomatoes audience score is extremely unreliable. The Black Panther score is 78 and when I clicked on the reviews (curious why it was so low compared to the critics) I swear 75% of the reviews were “looks good” or “too many superhero movies not gonna see”. People are reviewing movies they haven’t even seen
It might have been the same for TLJ. If you think the Rotten Tomatoes critic score is skewed somehow, fine use IMBD or Metacritic. But don’t trust the audience score.
I much prefer the Legends design of the Eclipse. The curve is the part that’s really missing from this one.
I think this one is better. The curve made it feel like a PT ship imo. The sharp edges of this model reinforce the Empire’s sinister presence. I guess there’s two sides to everything.
