Elected Monarchies existed and do work, but are rather confusing especially with the modern definition of an absolute monarch. I think making Naboo a presidential republic would make much more sense, but on second thought having to replace every single instance of “queen” in TPM’s dialogue track sounds like a lot of work to replace something passable.

The one thing about Anakin’s ghost that would make me get up and leave would be if he’s evil.

*See any rant of mine about the meaning of Anakin’s redemption in ROTJ, re: why the argument for Hayden ghost about his ‘good self’ dying in ROTS is fundamentally wrong, even if Lucas says so.

I agree, Shaw would be preferred but unfortunately he is one with the force. Hayden is the best option remaining (sorry Jake)- unless they could pull a Tarkin on us.

And knowing JJ, there’s a very good chance that’s happening.

Are we talking about the same JJ?

I know he has a distaste for the PT BUT I can easily see him getting over it if he can use it to maximize the emotional manipulation of the audience. Which will be his primary goal for the end of the film/saga.

No way. JJ is an OT fanboy. He’s gonna use Lando as much as possible, as well as force ghost Yoda and Luke. But not Hayden (which would be a great way to at least create somewhat of a unification between George’s saga and the Disney saga).

JJ somehow manages to be everyone’s boogeyman.

The Fanboy-ness works for TFA, but I am worried he might descend into more nostalgia when crafting the conclusion to not just the Sequel Trilogy or the story Luke started in ANH… but also the rise and fall Anakin Skywalker. Rian Johnson did help mark some shifts, but it’s up to the filmmakers of 9 to either go all in with the new… or revert to nostalgia.

I had hopes JJ would listen to the feedback, but am very confused why Lando is in the new movie. Wasn’t the entire point of killing Han and Luke so we could have space for Rey and Kylo? This should be their story and yet I find after two films we still haven’t reached that point.

I think an excellent edit would be to cut out the back stories of Finn and Poe, at least initially. Maybe open the movie with Rey and her life on Jakku and then she runs into BB8 and then eventually Fin. This would add some mystery as to the characters and what is going on. We do not need to know that Fin is a stormtrooper and instead we discover that. This would not be a bad thing. Try and keep the focus completely on Rey and make Poe and Finn solid supporting roles.

That’s a great idea! Perhaps footage of Finn’s betrayal could be played as a flashback while he’s in a coma in TLJ?

Yes. The Last Jedi has way too many main characters and subplots:

• Rey
• Chewie
• R2
• Luke

• Finn
• Rose
• BB8
• DJ

• Poe
• Holdo
• Leia
• C-3PO

• Kylo
• Snoke
• Hux
• Phasma

Even ROTS, the most meandering of the films, maintains a focus because it is building to the purge. But I struggle to find much of a common message within TLJ, as it’s more four stories combined.

While challenging to fix, I think sidelining Poe to a bystander showing us how dangerous things are would make Rey’s return for memorable. A radical edit could completely cut Finn’s pointless side quest.

An old theory turned radical idea I had was for Snoke to claim to be Palpatine reborn, establishing the old villian once again as the big bad of the galaxy.

However, it would later be revealed that Snoke was actually an imposter who simply used the idea of Palpatine to gain power. He really has no force powers at all, like the wizard of oz. That would retain Vader’s sacrifice while Palpatine’s presence is felt throughout the saga.

I’m sure it took you more than a week to become the supreme leader’s right hand man.

Not really. Snoke just assumed he would be the next Vader. He encouraged Kylo’s turn so I imagine his rise to power was a walk in the park. Snoke never thought anyone would even think to betray him.

So while he did bid his time, I do think he could of done this whole change within a month if he had wanted.

Kylo Ren murdered Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Snoke, and nearly took over the entire Galaxy in two films.

I’m pretty sure Luke won that battle, despite dying. Murdering Han wasn’t that impressive. Murdering Snoke was. And taking over the galaxy followed naturally, because Snoke had already taken it over. So really only one major accomplishment.

The greatest accomplishment ever honestly. Even Palpatine needed years and years of planning to execute his take over. Kylo pulled it off within one perfectly executed attack on the capital, followed by a coup of his own faction. All in the span of a week.

In terms of practically it’s the most obvious choice. However, the idea of an untouched sanctuary moon orbiting the capital of the Galaxy simply shatters my suspension of disbelief.

Giant national park?

Maybe the Empire eliminated this thousand year status and began turning it into a military fortification, and now the Ewoks aren’t used to contact with other species and desire rebellion.
