I don’t think there are many plot ramifications if a First Order fleet still attacks the Republic capital. Possibly a fleet of first order dreadnoughts, so the opening of TLJ does not feel out of nowhere.

On another topic, why wipe just 3PO and not both 3PO and R2? R2 knew of Luke and Leia being related as well as Anakin turned into Vader.
Because R2 is smart and loyal. He wouldn’t say anything and the empire wouldn’t think to extract his memory if he looks like every other droid.
C-3PO has been shown repeatedly willing to flip sides if it means survival. A single threat and he’ll let it all out. He’d spill the beans to Luke in their first conversation.

Concerning Lucas’s “revisions”, I don’t think there is an inherent problem with the guy changing his opinion on Star Wars. As time goes on he is going to change his opinions, this is fine by me as long as it does not get out of hand. This is why I am fine with JK Rowling’s recent changes… but that’s another debate…
The problem starts when Lucas refuses to release to provide the original versions. Fans should be allowed to choose what version of the movie or story they want to watch, just like Lucas gets to choose what he wants. Who knows? Maybe some people like the special editions. The should be allowed to remain. But we should also have access to the versions so many people fell in love with in 1977.
In the past, the concept of releasing all different versions simulations sounded financially foolish… and well confusing to consumers. BUT streaming services could be the answers. Maybe under the movie, there could be a selection where you choose which version you want to see. I think this would be a great solution that satisfies everyone.
My advice to anyone with an EA game: do not buy until the reviews come out and the inevitable controversy leaks.
They always make the game seem perfect, then comes launch. I didn’t buy Battlefront 2 until after they confirmed a change in micro transactions. I bought it not feeling ripped off.
Likewise I chose to skip on BFV following their controversy.
I am considering doing more clone wars edits, but I want to make progress on it before announcing and forcing myself to complete it.

What’s funny is, I don’t think anyone really loves the Death Star as much as the filmmakers think.
Even Death Star 2 was generally disliked, and after ROTJ everyone seemed to be against more Death Stars. It popping up in the PT rolled eyes. Starkiller was universally despised, and I wonder if J.J. was expectiting it and purposefully left it out of marketing. But Disney just couldn’t help themselves with RO, could they?
I think Palpatine would be a great addition to Episode 9. They need to tie this all into one saga, and as it stands now Episodes 7 and 8 don’t make much sense in the grand scheme of things.
I think it’s mostly comments like “so in so has been confirmed for such and such” as part of the speculation, not the speculation in and of itself.

I mean, there are definitely things to talk about with the trailer.
- What does the title mean?
I think it refers to Ben Solo. Rise of Skywalker is not plural, so Rey will not be a Skywalker. Or, she will take on the name and Ben will somehow drop it- which is ultimately impossible since he has rebuilt his mask.
- Why would they need to visit the ruins of the DS II?
I think it is connected to Palpatine’s laugh. Ian was confirmed to have an onscreen appearance, so he will likely have returned possibly as a spirit here. This may be where Ben and Rey face off, in the same room as Luke and Vader. I think this must be some “final battle” because it has a shot of all the heroes.
- Is that Tatooine or Jakku?
My hope is Jedha, but I would not be surprised if Tatooine or Jakku return.
I think it is a cool title. Not what we were expecting. I especially like how it chose “Skywalker” instead of the plural. Suggests Ben- or maybe even Anakin- will have a large impact over the story.
Just my interpretation but this has a feeling of course correction from TLJ, for better or worse.
I for one enjoyed it. Regular people are talking about SW again… in a positive lights Made me nostalgic for the days before TFA, when everyone liked the new movies.
Good luck don’t know if possible, but going in as clean as possible is the best way to enjoy the movie for what it is.

Sorry for the late reply, but I have watched the edit in its entirety.
I like the direction you tried to go down. When written down I think it works great. But when it comes to such radical editing, it becomes challenging to convince the person watching what is happening is how it is supposed to work. The best edits are the ones you don’t notice, and I am sad to say that many of your cuts felt that way for me. That’s not to say you didn’t do a good job: it is clear you tried, but certain sequences just have different lighting, costumes, or shots. And I think there may be a way around that: if we have the proper setup.
Let’s begin with the first scene. Setting it on Vader’s Castle is cool, I like this change. But it does bring about some logic questions. Hux says the machine is ready, Snoke says to use it. But Hux is at Mustafar. And Snoke is on Starkiller? Or is he on the Supremacy? You can see how just the first line has so many unintended consequences. There’s this paradox where an editor cuts something and it makes sense- to them, but when you show it to someone without any explanation it becomes confusing. I, unfortunately, felt that way many times.
But enough with the specifics. Starting with Takodona cuts right to the chase. BUT, we don’t get a proper introduction to these two new characters Rey and Finn. Who are they? The crawl mentions “a scavenger” but what about Finn?
My solution: Start the movie as The Force Awakens starts. Have the cool shot of Stormtroopers prepping for battle, then cut straight to a fight removing Poe. Kylo Ren makes a big entrance and everyone gets a moment to meet this guy. Then he talks to the old man, and it is implied the old man has already sent the map away. Kylo kills the old man, and we jump cut to Rey’s scavenger mask. The movie plays as usual, only we don’t know about BB8 until Finn says he’s got the map. To save time we’ll make Finn a real resistance agent (I think this was what you were going for).
While they are on the run, we get to keep cutting back to Kylo and Hux. This builds their presence in the story. Rey and Finn team up and fly the falcon away, then they are caught by Han and Chewie who will also be resistance agents. Add some “happy” music and have Finn say “resistance”, it should get the job done. Han and Chewie could have just lost the Falcon on one of their adventures in the rebellion.
I think that alone will really help the edit, not only increasing the runtime but giving us a reason to care about these new faces.
However, my biggest concern has to be the setup of the final battle. There is a lot at stake here, but it doesn’t flow too well. First Leia’s death. The random cut to the Supremacy was the only moment I was entirely taken out of the experience. It didn’t work for me. I think the solution would be to have the Raddus join the battle at Starkiller. You can have the shot of the fleet emerging at of nowhere and then cut right to Starkiller. This will convey the message and explain why Kylo is out in space. The Supremacy could be one of many ships guarding it.
That all being said, I loved the Leia death. It’s a bold choice that plays out perfectly. Ben smashing the helmet brings chills.
So keep Leia’s death but give it a bit more continuity. Onto the Han/Finn plotline, does Rey just appear out of nowhere? I am confused regarding this point. What if instead, Rey surrenders herself willingly to the First Order, and is then “rescued”/found by Finn? It is a bit convoluted but would explain her temporary change of clothing.
My final suggestion concerns Starkiller Base. The emphasis on the epilogue is clearly on Kylo Ren. The result, in my opinion, is the entire “battle” feels on the backburner. This may just be my POV, but I was never invested in the third death star angle. So I suggest Starkiller succeeds in destroying the Republic near the end of the movie. Make all hope seem lost. As the sky turns red, Kylo finally turns to the light just as they are too late. This would be a bittersweet ending. Plaguies would have a clear overconfidence syndrome. But this suggestion isn’t really about the continuity… more of a preference.
Overall, I enjoyed your vision. Leia’s death was great, and Ben’s redemption a real conclusion. I think looking at what you had (only two movies and some deleted scenes, no dallies or voice actors etc) you did a great job. These kinds of “creative” edits are my favorite.

I did grow up with the Prequels, with ROTS having a significant influence on me. I do enjoy the overall story of these films, but the acting, set design, and pacing kills it for me. As an adult, I can barely take some of the choices (I don’t like sand) as serious. Yet I enjoy the era. The PT books / shows / games have always been my favorite. Not that I’ve ever disliked the OT era- I’ve just always viewed the characters, planets, and conflicts of the prequels more interested.So much era ranking would be:

- OT
- ST
While my actual film ranking is the April Fools one in reverse.
The other big issue (and now I’ll sound like a broken record as this has been discussed to death recently) for me is that that era feels so aesthetically different from the rest of the saga. Some of the non-film stuff tries to bridge the gap more but it still feels to me a bit like a separate franchise in some respects.
From a saga perspective it is funky, but it also clearly gives the PT something different to stand on.
I play Battlefront 17, and there are three eras: the PT, OT, and ST. When you play in a PT or OT map you clearly feel the difference. But the ST is just a glorified OT. There is nothing unique going on.
You can always chalk it up to technological advancements. As a planet we are advancing rapidly in 19 years- a galaxy would be doing some crazy stuff in that time. Enough to make it seem like a different place. Add in a new government and POV and it makes sense.
With the ST, it is a shame nothing new is ever developed. Even the First Order, the supposed powerhouse, is still using TIE Fighters. After 30 years?

Yeah. Thing is if one considers what Snoke says in that scene, finding Luke is no longer the priority. His plan is to test Kylo’s faith by bringing Rey to him and having him kill her (getting rid of Luke is just the secondary tying up of loose ends). As usual with dark siders, his overconfidence ends up being his weakness.
Surely one of these days one of the Sith is gonna realize they keep going in circles… 😛
