The Evil Dead Treasures Collection (Released)

I'm not holding my hopes out for Universal to do a better master of theatrical cut from the OCN. They've been using the same transfer for years, and I doubt they'll do anything different.

I've been wondering if "AoD" might be a part of Universal's deal with ShoutFactory.  When you look at all of the other titles they've optioned (including Raimi's "Darkman"), it would seem to be a natural continuation of that agreement.  And, since Shout has also been licensing MGM titles, releasing that DC in 1080p doesn't seem so impossible.

Eh, maybe I'm just chasing Leprechauns again :/

Trancers: Enhanced Edition (Mastered and Upscaled from the Vestron LD) (Released)

Is 1.5 some weird extended cut or is old man Thomerson going to stagger through another movie?

Part of it is an unreleased mini-sequel made before Trancers II.  Full Moon produced an anthology film called Pulse Pounders, which included the segment...but it never made its way to theaters and/or video.

I'm not sure if they're just releasing that 30+/- minute segment as a standalone product, or shooting wraparound footage to extend it.  But, it will feature both Thomerson and Hunt.

I haven't yet, but I'll remember to scan through them (or put in a request for someone else to do it) if and when I get the chance to revisit Trancers.  Subtitles have never been my strong suit.

With the various Blu-rays Full Moon has been releasing lately and the announcement of Trancers 1.5: City of Angels on the way, I've been hoping Charles Band would spring to release the original movie in HD and save me the trouble ;)

DVD9 was unnecessary because of the length of the movie.  At 76 minutes, it has an average bitrate of 9+Mbps (DVD's maximum) on a DVD5.

Sadly, unless something has changed, there is no 1080i broadcast to work from.  Heck, I don't even believe there's been a 480i broadcast since the mid-to-late 90s (when Sci-Fi Channel used to run it).

As much as I generally abhor DVR, this was one case where I decided it was necessary.  The Vestron LD leaves much to be desired.

I'm curious, althorr1138, what method did you use to IVTC?  I'm in the process of manually ITVCing the US SWE LaserDisc for a basic backup, but I've only had to deal with the cadence errors at reel changes.  Being from the same source, I thought I'd be running into some of these others spotted by Darth Mallwalker.

On the other hand, the SD version is one of the most beautiful captures I've ever seen. I had to demux though, as I couldn't figure out how to play the second stream otherwise. For some reason it plays back with interlacing artifacts though, is it still interlaced?

I had a similar problem with initial playback.  Though when I extracted the 2nd stream, even though it read as 29.97fps, it still appeared to be IVTC'd when I opened it in VirtualDub.

I really hope you'll consider still releasing unaltered 480p transfers as well.  Based on what you said about leaving it unfiltered, if any other users hoped to make cleaning attempts on your transfers (with your permission and credit), it would be easier to work with something that has not been resized and is more representative of the true, raw form.

It's really rare to find any transfers that have not been altered and yours sounds like it would be an excellent source.

Could it be from the widescreen to pan-n-scan conversion?  In most cases, each shot in the movie was reframed for 4x3 (instead of just hacking-off the right and left sides).  These might be artifacts from whatever process the studio used.  And, as none said, they would have been hidden by TV overscan, so Fox probably wasn't concerned.

I may be wrong, but I seem to recall recently seeing something similar during some scene changes on my Star Trek: TMP - Special Longer Version LD...but they were bright orange lines.  And, like these, they would have been hidden by the overscan.

I understand your drive to want to make these LDs look as good as possible, but I think it would be more useful to the community to have each (or, at least, one) of the captures uncropped/unresized at ~DVD9 sizes.

I'm not saying to upload the raw captures! I just think that unaltered DVD9s of your captures would go a long way and I'm sure they'd be greatly appreciated.

Ditto.  Or, at least I hope you'll consider doing both (an upscaled DVD9 and an unaltered DVD9).

I think I have Mermaid somewhere.  I'll rip-and-upload when I get the chance.

@OmegaMattman: Is that the Fanfiltration ST:TMP extended or is that a different edit?

No, it was a version I did myself.  Sources were the '09 Theatrical Cut DVD, '01 Director's Edition DVD, and audio from the '83 LaserDisc.  Took forever to color-correct everything to match.

It was actually part of a 3-Disc set I'd put together, which also had a more pure Theatrical Cut disc (with hard-coded subs in the original typeface and audio from the '89 LD) and a 3rd disc of extras.  So far, all I've been able to rip is that 3rd disc :/

@OmegaMattman - Always try a different DVD drive if that happens.  Lasers get weaker with age and sometimes worse at reading discs.

Yeah, I was hoping that was the problem.  Dug out my laptop...and every old DVD drive I still have around the house.  No success.

Might pick up a cheap drive before the weekend is out and give it a shot.

Off topic, the DVD in question was a widescreen reconstruction of the Star Trek: The Motion Picture "Special Longer Version" I completed in 2010.  I don't remember why, but I did not generally upload it...and only gave it to a handful of people who do not seem to be able/willing to help me get a duplicate :/

I've hit a bit of a snag. While my computer made it through B&TB with relatively minor hiccups it appears to be unwilling to make an iso of it. I'll give it a shot on another machine, but I might not be able to help the way I'd wanted...

Is there some sort of weird atmospheric occurrence causing everyone to have this same problem at the same time?  I was trying to rip a big project from my master DVD (because my HD got wiped) which I'd completed a few years back and was finally going to upload for Christmas...and I can't get it off of the disc.  Not sure if it's a bad DL disc or my PC hates me.  Either way, it makes me want to club a baby seal :/

On the flipside...I have a copy of the Vaultbreaker BatB disc which I just finished ripping.  I'll put it on MySpleen when I get some time in the next few days.

Info Wanted: for a manual IVTC?

AntcuFaalb, I can tell you that ANH - Technidisc will at least be a piece of cake for you, IIRC there wasn't any changes in cadence, never encountered an easier LD to IVTC.

And, in most cases with other titles, the changes occur at the point of reel-change.

The only exception I can think of are Extended Versions and Director's Cuts that were edited on video, not film.  Things like the DC of "The Alamo" or the TV Cut of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture".
