Made in Moviemaker, because of laziness.
Listening to it in the video, it seems to have a slight warbly undercurrent typical of heavy noise reduction that gets more pronounced by the end, but it's the best result I've yet gotten.

Knockout settings for Leia Reconstituted Audio:
Vocals plus music on top, left panned. Right music channel on bottom, right panned.
Select both tracks, start Knockout. Extract Centre off, R input gain 13 dB, Output gain 8 dB, all other settings off.
preview section, record with windows audio recorder.
The moral of this story: It is quite possible to isolate the Leia hologram speech, with some effort.
WOW, Nice work!
Now don't be hasty, I'm uploading it now, so you can decide for yourselves whether it's worth the hype.
Alright, I've been looking for some free options for reducing the center channel of the AC3 file some more, and came across KnOckOut, a plugin for Audacity. Placing the center channel above the right channel, I then pulled the center channel to read as a left channel, and pulled the right channel to read as the right channel. This is so Knockout thinks that it is a simple stereo file. Playing with the settings allowed for a really impressive result. Leia's voice is hardly garbled at all, and except for a single errant note, I was hard pressed to hear any music. This is more than sufficient for incorporating into a trailer, methinks.
The only problem was that this didn't work. It only worked when I clicked the "preview" option, which played the first five seconds perfectly. Trying to apply the effect to the whole track did absolutely nothing except amplify the track. So I did what any sane person would do and recorded the five second previews with Windows Audio Recorder and stitched them together in Audacity. Here are the settings, if anyone else is interested in working from the AC3 audio:

Thanks for the lots of nice things!

As snother audio person, I will add that unless you actually enjoy the trial-and-error process, your time might be better spent trying to locate un-mixed soundbites. The M-S processor concept seems to be a more advanced version of the phase cancellation techniques mentioned above (albeit with more fine control over the phase of the signals).
If you DO want to work on it - go, man, go! You will definitely learn what works best, what you can live with and what you can't.
Having never listened to the isolated center channel of the DTS Master Audio from the Blu-Ray - can someone verify that the music is present?
Do I enjoy trial and error? Have you seen my color correction method? ;)
I am very interested in knowing whether the Blu-ray has music in the central channel as well.
It's got more Dune-like elements in it now, for sure. I'm thinking the Bene Gesserit sisterhood:
"Kill this child, it is an abomination!"
This has absolutely the darkest outcome of any Star Wars story I have ever read, though I'm glad that you finished the story - that's rare on this forum.
The moral of the story is that the Jedi are not to be trusted!
It could have worked - if Khan's second in command was revived instead of Khan. He looks a lot like Cumberbatch!
JEDIT: Now I'm retconning STID to actually star this guy, who only pretends to be Khan after the suits at Starfleet unfreeze the wrong guy. He plays along because he wishes to avoid being put back into hibernation, and soon comes to enjoy impersonating his hero so much that he begins to think that he is indeed Khan.
Hi, AntcuFaalb, looking at what you've eaten the past two days, I see most of your vegetables come from the Lean Cuisine Meals. I've done those before, and there's not all that much in the way of vegetables there.
how do you feel about including more fresh vegetables in your diet? It's a habit for me to have a salad every day, usually at lunch or sometimes at dinner, a huge thing in a big soup bowl. It goes a long way towards filling me up. My brother and I take turns making salads, but on occasion I've made a large amount of salad and refrigerated it so that it would last for a few days. Adding olive oil and cheese is a good replacement for dressing. I don't even miss it now.
Good luck on your new goal!
Yeah, it seems like the only way to cancel the waveforms is to duplicate the original mixed track, but the voice is so immersed in the music that it seems impossible to isolate. I'll keep thinking on it.

The Death Star Explosion test got me wondering about the Binary Sunset. So I tried to get it as close as I could to the available Technicolor print references:
The whole scene uses the same settings, but the final image has some issues because of it.
I imported the French version of the GOUT soundtrack into Audacity along with the English version, and the waveforms are very different, even for the supposedly identical music. So I don't think that will work either. I also tried copying the english sound and used a compressor to bring down the vocals. Then I inverted the compressed soundwave, hoping to keep the higher volume voice while cancelling out the lower volume music, and while that may work with enough effort, it didn't sound good. There are also parts where the music is louder than the voice, rendering the method useless in those places. So I'm at a loss.
Aw, lookit the adorable widdle planet ending death ray!
I'm thinking of holding out until someone extracts the one good movie from the eventual nine hours of material.
But is it the Greatest Adventure?

Sit back, relax, and let the nostalgia flow through you!
Yeah, that's what I thought to do first and it's an improvement, but not by much.

It's the same link posted at the top of this page. And for now it's only a rumour.
To me it sounds too good to be true (three more movies with Han Solo plus an Indy movie that might rectify KOTCS?).
Oh, I thought that it was only the Indy 5 news.
I feel exactly the opposite about Han Solo. To me the character is dead. Didn't KOTCS show how difficult it was to revive an old character?
Yep, and now it's done. The new news is that Han Solo may be back for more than Episode 7: http://www.jedinews.co.uk/news/news.aspx?newsID=14102
I don't get it. I thought that he wanted to be done with Star Wars after Jedi. And if he doesn't die in 7, and Luke and Leia stay on, what's the point of casting new characters at all?
I've got a bad feeling about this.
I hope the last post didn't seem too critical; the way you decided to end Boba is really dramatic. Perhaps Vader's gloating over Boba could be made to include information about Boba's personal code, further reinforcing why he would suddenly work for the rebels. I like how Vader knows Boba's thoughts. It would be a blow to the Rebellion if Vader was able to extract from him their location.
Full speed ahead, I'd say.
JEDIT: You posted chapter 11 fast! I wasn't aware that the ship itself had telepathic abilities. This is shaping up to be an extremely interesting conflict.
Aw, but refilming a movie is cheating.
I recognize that ROTJ is the weakest of the originals, but ESB is my personal favorite, in part because of the reveal. Consider it this way: In order for a sequel to feel like part of a larger story and not be seen simply as a sequel, it will need to contain plot information which is absolutely essential to understanding the nature of the primary conflict, information which was not in any way present in the original movie. In this way, ESB excels. Up until the reveal, it is a sequel in every sense of the word. The reveal changes the nature of the conflict established in ANH, presenting the hero with an insoluble dilemma. Vader ceases to be a simple monster and becomes the personification of the conflict within Luke, and is an assault on his very motivation to be a Jedi. ROTJ satisfactorily concludes this conflict, though it leaves all other conflicts by the wayside or conveniently ends them. This is why I believe that ROTJ is a worthy conclusion to the story of Star Wars: it completes the primary conflict.
If Episode 7 is to succeed as a true continuation of the Star Wars story, it will need to redefine the previous entry in order to allow this entry (ROTJ) to present the insoluble dilemma, which in the case of Star Wars seems to be that ultimate power corrupts absolutely: "Take your father's place by my side" or that evil is more powerful than good: "Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark Side". This can be accomplished by showing how the New Republic has become just as dictatorial as the Empire, or it could go in the other direction and show how even the best the Rebellion had was not enough to save it from the Empire. I have chosen the latter, as it has the upside of being completely unexpected, like the reveal in ESB. It redefines the weakest of the original trilogy as the masterstroke of a cunning Emperor, and in a stroke it balances the terms of the next engagement, eliminating many heroes to allow for new heroes, and essentially establishing a villain who is greater than any yet faced.
Thanks, I've never downloaded from the 'spleen or the alt binaries, but I may do so. This is a long term project, so there's no rush for materials. Thank you for the info! I definitely want to try cancelling out the music, so at the very least, we'll have definite proof about whether or not any takes in the LP are exact.
JEDIT: Curse you Frink, stop getting between the poster and my reply! Now it sounds like I'm thanking you!

crystal skull is not bad, i've seen far worse. i'm happy that harrison keeps going. one of the last big time movie stars.
The Indiana Jones saga should have ended in 1989. Crystal Skull shouldn't have been made. 'I've seen far worse', what a great way to convince someone to watch a movie.
I've seen worse as well. It's called Temple of Doom. What a depressing and annoying waste of time that movie was. At least Crystal Skull did interesting things. Perhaps not good things, but interesting things nonetheless.
I really like the present tense for the crawl as well, however it seems unfitting to talk about events which happened thirty years ago as if they happened yesterday. It would be like saying:
It is a time of civil war. After maiming the Sith Lord Darth Vader in a duel, Obi-wan Kenobi has gone into exile on the remote world of Tatooine. Meanwhile, the Rebel Alliance has won it's first victory against the evil GALACTIC EMPIRE.
While there is nothing technically wrong with this statement, it makes it seem like these two events happen in quick succession. Especially problematic is that Luke and Leia "head into exile", which implies that we will meet up with them a few days after the Endor disaster. I think the first two parts of your crawl do work better though, but it may work better if the last bit was rewritten to say:
Narrowly ecaping the destruction of Endor, the rebel heroes Luke and Leia Skywalker toil in exile, determined to gather new strength in the fight for freedom and justice among the darkening stars....
This way the hinge of time rests on "toil in exile" instead of "head into exile", which can imply as much time as necessary.
I'm glad I've converted you to the Dark Side of the Star Wars sequels; in time, you will call the true Emperor "Master"!
