TFA: A Gentle Restructure (Released)
Time

For V2, the light side of Starkiller Base is darkened and a new Hosnian Destruction sequence is implemented using the full track from the score. SirRidley is finalizing(😉) the Finalizer scene where Finn says ‘They’ve found us!’, as well as re-editing that scene to flow better. In addition, there are a whole bunch of new changes such as R2 looking for the map only after BB8’s suggestion, a stabilized final shot, completely reconstructed sound for the destruction of Starkiller Base, and the addition of a subplot involving Leia and the Republic. Most of these changes are available to view in the Starlight Project, a link to which is available in my signature.

By the way, here’s the Leia Deleted Scene with the aforementioned audio issue fixed:

Well, the word is that he handed a pretty solid victory to the Democrats, in that when the debt ceiling comes back up again in December, the Dems will have a lot more leverage to get things that they want passed.

https://newrepublic.com/article/144726/trump-screwed-republicans-now-what

Faced with the perennial debt ceiling problem, Trump shocked Washington on Wednesday by agreeing with Schumer, the Democratic leader in the Senate, and Pelosi, his counterpart in the House, to fund the government and raise the debt limit for three months while also providing aid for Hurricane Harvey victims. To call this a “deal” would be generous, as Trump gave Democrats exactly what they had sought. The agreement keeps the debt ceiling issue alive ahead of next year’s midterm elections—giving Republicans ample time to shoot themselves in the foot with infighting over government spending—and provides Democrats with leverage in future negotiations on key issues like granting legal status for DREAMers.

Perhaps Trump is realizing that the Democrats, despite being a minority party, can actually agree on things and may have a better chance of forming a coalition with moderate Republicans than trying to appease the insane wing of the House.

I went ahead and rendered a full quality mockup of the Leia deleted scene:

https://mega.nz/#!vBFGRB5J!quAF4KgbzEHD08n9Ywz8neOJf1dkXvGpvDLmHExSDEo

There are 28 frames added to the runtime, but the music still seems to work so I’m not sweating it.

I’m unsure what to do with the introduction of the base, and settled on another angled wipe with the same duration as the first.

There needs to be new SFX work done for the shot of Finn exiting the Falcon, but other than that the sound would be unchanged.

Finally, there’s no color correction so that Sir-ridley can just drop the completed footage in where necessary. Leia’s mouth movements in the first shot of the new scene have been altered to fit the time-shifted line, as well as a few frames of Kor Sella’s face at the end of her brief reaction shot.

JEDIT: Updated link.

Star Wars: A (formerly?) 3-in-1 fanedit of the Original Trilogy (* unfinished project *)
Time

To take out the Imperial Conference scene, you could hold the Homestead kitchen scene until after Ben’s Hut, so it’s Ben’s Hut - Homestead kitchen - Sandcrawler Destruction -(wipe to)- Burning Homestead -(Wipe to)- Return to Sandcrawler.

What I meant by the ‘Homestead kitchen’ was the section where Owen asks Beru where Luke has gone. So after the fade out to night, we open on Luke’s speeder as they search for R2. Then we get to Ben’s hut and after that scene we get Owen looking around for Luke.

Also: If you go right from the Tusken Raiders jumping on the Bantha to the distant battle cries after the attack, you could cut out a minute in between, and simply imply the attack on Luke. Then another 40 seconds could be cut from them finding 3PO and simply have them lift him up out of scene.

If you kept the interrogation scene, you could keep the ‘set your course for Alderaan’ scene, and put it in place of the Destruction of Alderaan. That way the audience may assume that the Falcon gets there in time to see the laser firing, and it’s a surprise when they’re too late.

There’s some fat you can trim after the Control Room scene. There are a lot of shots of our heroes just wandering around the Death Star, so maybe just leave the shots of them getting in the elevator and get rid of Ben wandering around as well.

Yeah even for star wars for me honestly. People go on and on about how terrible the Blu Ray look and how botched the colors are and some even say they are unwatchable and I’m like… Yeah I guess they are a little dark sometimes?

(Content changes aside obviously)

It’s a little dark alright.
I don’t mind the altered colors in most movies, believe it or not, since I don’t have a frame of reference. There was a time when I thought the 2004 master of ANH looked good. But once you start investigating the differences, it’s easy to get a little obsessed.

Help: looking for... Any 'DUNE' 3-hour cuts out there?

Don’t know about the best 3 hour cut per se but having a quick look around fanedit.org I’d say this version sounds like it could be my definitive version of Dune once I get a chance to download and watch it.

Just finished watching this, in two sittings. I had high hopes for it after reading the glowing reviews, but sadly it falls far short of what I’d like in a David Lynch Dune movie. There are now two prologues when there should be only one. The first 20 minutes are even more of an infodump than they were in the Theatrical version, and much of the extended material fails to add anything of substance. The Harkonnens are still entirely too gross, the story still entirely too somniferous.

One bright point is the addition of more Gurney Halleck. Never say no to more Patrick Stewart. Some of the additional Fremen scenes added welcome perspective. The ending is much more in keeping with the spirit of the book.

In summary: I’m glad I watched it, but I’m still waiting for a leaner, more dynamic edit of Lynch’s work.
