The entire movie will be one big training montage.

once I’ve got the crawl, Maz’s castle, and Leia deleted scene we can hopefully have this thing up ahead of TLJ’s release.
By the way Ridley, what music was used for the last part of the Maz’s Castle video?
Here’s a mockup of the scene without Rey’s running away lines:

I tried to do something different with the cuts and music before her lines, but Ridley’s version is better in that regard. I think the line omissions could work though.
One thing I thought of after uploading - The shot where Rey sees the attack force is worse than superfluous, now that we see the Finalizer. It also makes no tactical sense for Rey to go back to the castle since she has no hope of outrunning fighters that are already overhead, and indeed we see the results of her tactical error directly afterward.
Instead, she could look up into a deceptively clear sky, alerted by the sound of distant TIE fighters. This would also be a callback to the similar situation on Jakku - an organic form of character growth. The Apocalypse Now TIES would tie (sorry) into this idea, and it would make sense to seek shelter in the castle.
It’s funny, how many problems (and solutions) can cascade from a gentle restructure.

Three of us went to McDonalds on the day of the Szechuan sauce to partake, after being assured earlier in the day that there would, indeed, be Szechuan sauce. Imagine our outrage when there was, in fact, no Szechuan sauce. Imagine how we shrugged in seething fury and bought some nuggets anyway, and fumed with the fierceness of a thousand blazing suns while contenting ourselves with a themed sticker as an apology.
It was just a gimmick, people.
Sheesh.
I remember giving up on Solaris partway through, then watching the Clooney ‘remake’ and liking it. I should probably give it another go.
Yeah, I’d rather we get the necessary stuff done before any more quibbles. 😃
It’s not a big deal either way - I love the edit regardless - but I had just realized why that scene never really worked for me. It’s one thing to want some space after a troubling revelation (and being a scavenger in a desolate wasteland, it makes sense to retreat to nature), but it’s quite another to abandon your current mission and call to adventure before thinking better of it less than a minute later. I understand the reasoning to reject the call, since Luke does the same thing in ANH, and if there were more time it would work better. But without the Starkiller firing to act as the ‘burning homestead’ moment for the audience, it may cause a bit of whiplash.
I think the reordering into a continuous action scene calls for more action and less indecision, but if it’s beyond the scope of this edit, I’ll put it down as another change in the Starlight Project 😉
There’s a popup banner thingy on the Fanedit site informing people not to ask for fanedits there, perhaps something similar can be done here? Like:
“Fan projects must not be bought or sold. To access such projects, please read the first post of the project thread in question, and if you are still unsure where to go many creators would be happy to answer your questions via private message.”
We still need a dedicated section of the forum laying out exactly how to
1: Access projects - with Myspleen closed to new members, this isn’t as simple as it has been.
2: Access Disc art and labels
3: Download and burn discs
Progress! Here’s the latest version of the Maz’s castle sequence. Thoughts?
Watching this again, I realize what I disliked from this sequence in the original film.
In the original and in this edit, Rey runs away and intends to keep running…into the forest? Forever? I understand that having a Force vision can be traumatic and everything, but it doesn’t seem in character for her to suddenly run away from both her destiny and a way back to Jakku. She’s too competent for this sort of thing. What would make more sense is if she ran outside to get some air and deal with the traumatic Force vision, with the intention of returning once she’d recovered.
So for this sequence, remove ‘I’m leaving…no, you can’t. They’ll help you’.
Then we’re left with 'What are you doing? BB-8, you have to go back. You’re too important.'
This makes it sound like she’s still dedicated to BB-8’s mission even if she doesn’t want anything to do with the Force vision.
I also think the scene would flow better if Rey stopped running before Finn sees the Finalizer, but there’s probably not enough footage to make that seem natural.
JEDIT: What might be more effective was if all she says is ‘We have to go back’, and then it cuts to Finn and Maz in the basement. This way Rey makes the decision to return without seeing the First Order ships, and only sees the attack when she gets back to the castle. It also shortens the time between Finn seeing the Finalizer and the inevitable attack.
It feels like this movie is being worked on during weekends whenever a director wanders into the backyard for some pickup shots.
I like the partially destroyed Death Star idea. It could even be established in ANH that Yavin is actually Endor (just change the one line in the film establishing this), and it makes sense that the damaged Death Star would remain in orbit around the moon.
There is the issue of Yavin 4 being more tropical than the Sanctuary Moon, but you could even fix this by making the matte paintings more deciduous. Being incredibly bold, you could film one or two people in Ewok costumes and have their shadowy forms peeking out of the woods at this point:
So now there’s a reason for the Rebels to protect the planet rather than immediately evacuate, as there’s a native sentient species, and there’s a reason for the Ewoks to treat Leia as royalty, since she may have been known to the Ewoks as a leader of the Rebellion.
I’m surprised that some of the links on that thread still work.
I don’t know what’s going on, but:
JEDIT: Or maybe:
Oscar winner Benicio del Toro is nearing a deal to play the villain in Star Wars: Episode VIII, for which plot information continue to be unknown. However, the Internet has taken it upon itself to speculate that Han Solo’s daughter might be delivered in the movie. Write my Essay: REDACTED

Sausage Party.
What a supreme waste.
I made the mistake of watching it with family.
I’ve never seen AOTC on film.
It’s weird, looking at this stuff now. When I was younger I thought that the Death Star just hovered above the moon in a northern latitude, since that’s where redwoods grow on Earth. Of course it would be at the equator.
I stand corrected.
That’s some fine disc art.
I’m not sure what you expected…
I wasn’t expecting much. I got even less.
One real suggestion - remove Ackbar’s first line ‘You can see here the Death Star orbiting the forest moon of Endor’. It’s technically incorrect, since the Death Star must remain above the shield generator. Also, he repeats the info about the forest moon later, so nothing is lost.
Sausage Party.
What a supreme waste.
At the risk of derailment, what would you suggest as the best way to convert a blu-ray to one of Resolve’s accepted video formats?
Are we turning Beru’s haircut into a full-blown conspiracy theory?
