I quite liked the droid rights subplot. It’s a massive injustice in the galaxy that’s been strangely glossed over by our heroes, and to have a droid be an advocate for the cause is totally earned for me. Also, this is no protocol droid, so it probably doesn’t care what people think of it or if it’s grating. I found it refreshing that it wasn’t quiet or tactful.

This joke got me. I wouldn’t mind seeing something like this in Frink’s version.
I clearly don’t remember the theatrical look (oh wait I never saw it in theaters) but when the article says “less green” shouldn’t it say “no green?” I see no green in those pictures at all. Of course you can’t trust pictures like that, it might just be my monitor’s fault. Regardless I think color issues are way overblown, people are always trying to “fix” stuff here that doesn’t need fixing, and basically meh.
There’s still green in the new Matrix images I’ve seen.
I agree with you that sometimes, especially here, color issues can be overstated. And there have been a lot of projects here that seem to want to do away with the idea of grading itself, wanting everything to look as it might in real life. But the Matrix Bluray grading was really really over the top green. From what I’ve seen, the new images look like a nice improvement.
In this case, it’s possible that my baseline is “incorrect” being that as I said I never saw the movie in theaters. So possibly for me, it’s down to personal preference, what I’m used to basically.
With that said I barely see any green in the images shown in that review.
Really? I see a lot of green, for example this shot from the UHD release:

But other times the filmmakers wanted to merely imply the green through costume and set design, which is why the Oracle scene is otherwise very naturalistic.

This is fairly similar to how it was seen on 35mm.
The previous release had gone with a really heavy green tint for everything set in the world of the Matrix, and this destroyed the subtlety of the set and costume choices:

Lets just say i have really BIG Fucking feet.
My left foot is a size bigger than my right and it makes shoe shopping a nightmare.
I’m not even a big dude, just have annoyingly big feet.
Didn’t you hear? We’re starting a club for people with differently sized feet.
I’m pretty happy with the color as it is, and the few scenes I’ve tweaked for v2 are already done. But if you wanted to make your own alterations to the project, you’re certainly welcome to.
To put the candidate choice in movie perspective, it was like asking people online to vote on which movie they liked better, The Room or Bridge of Spies.

"I just want to watch the world burn."
I have been thinking that this is actually a big problem in politics today. People are so cynical that it’s taken for granted that government is broken and civic-mindedness is dead. Journalism is all but extinct, and truth is whatever is shouted the loudest by those in power. With this mindset, the best thing to do is look out for number one, since it’s a sucker’s game to adhere to any values or rules at all.
I think it would be really great if we started valuing things like truth, justice, and the American Way again, whatever those things mean to each individual. At least then when things go wrong we can at least say that we tried our best instead of settling for our worst.
Isn’t there a thread about why ROTJ is the best Star Wars movie? If that thread can exist, this one can too.
I think The Last Jedi is the most ambitious Star Wars movie yet. It makes cogent arguments for and against the existence of the Jedi, it truly widens the scope of the universe to include the perspective of the very rich and communicates their opportunism and human trafficking, it deftly upends the First Order and places Kylo on the throne in a way that is thematically satisfying, and it gives Rey, Poe and Finn arcs that genuinely move their stories forward.
It’s also the most visually striking of the numbered episodes with the most jaw-dropping Star Wars sequence ever put to screen.
I present the ending to one of the alternate versions of the release…the “Skywalker Lives” edition!
If it ended on the binary sunset shot, for me it would be perfect.
Heck, even if Luke dies, the placement of this scene is great.
It’s perfect.
I’ll have to pop in the Blu Ray later, but I’m not seeing it in the broadcast of the 2004 version.
It’s definitely there on the German broadcast and the Blu-ray, but it’s not very noticeable since the brightness is so low.
(BTW, I just updated the comparison gallery through this part of the film, using only shots that have additional sources added to them. I’ll finish the whole gallery someday… 😉 )
What’s the point of color correction if millions of fans don’t know how to download your releases?
So hard to upload on an outdoor torrent tracker and cloud storage?
The links are available to anyone who owns the Blu-ray and/or who is a part of this community - After working for years on this project, so I don’t feel like that is too much to ask for.
Maybe just when Obi-wan’s climbing above Anakin on the lava tower, and then Anakin looks up at him all pissed.
Thought the 4k77 was a shot by shot
It was reel by reel, to preserve the original color variability between shots.
OP’s signature made me trip
A photobucket GIF that still works…
Yet another reason why returning to Tatooine for ROTJ was such a dumb move.
There are at least three instances where Obi-wan is higher than Anakin during their final fight. Whenever this happens, Obi-wan should declare the fight over due to his high ground.
My left foot is 1/4 of a size larger than my right(which is usually a 9.5), so I was wishing today for a magical left shoe size of nine and three quarters.
The podrace comparison is just a copy of the previous comparison btw.
No maybe that all the lead characters are still white (Rey, Kylo Ren, Luke, Jyn Urso). The racially diverse characters are pushed to side characters. And I should include the directors who have all been white men.
I agree to an extent, although “side characters” is unfair to Finn, Poe, and even Cassian. Yes the leads are all white but Star Wars movies always have more than one main character.
I agree on Cassian but The Last Jedi took Finn from a main character to more of a side character in my opinion. I bet he will get more spotlight in Ep. 9 though.
That’s debatable. It’s clear that he was originally designed to be a character we focused a lot on (originally opening the film with him + a lot of other deleted material). His diminished presence is simply due to trims in the editing room, so it’s weird to say that “the black character was sidelined.” He still had his own full storyline (one that didn’t include any white characters), whether people liked it or not.

Sure, it’s an improvement but I just find it frustrating that they haven’t had the balls yet to have a person of color as the lead character.
I’d say though that they were essentially positioning John Boyega as the lead of TFA during the marketing of that film (or at least as much the lead as Daisy Ridley).
Yep, but I quite clearly remember how I felt a little misled by the marketing after I saw the movie since Finn was not the lead. And it got worse in the Last Jedi. Finn I feel has kind of gotten not treated with enough respect as a character. He was soooo interesting and in all honesty, one of my favorite things about TFA.
He still is the main character in TFA though. Just because Rey has a slightly bigger role doesn’t change that.
Even though Finn is my favorite character in TFA, I still thought that Rey was the main character, or at least a co-lead. Now I am imagining a fanedit where Finn is unquestionably the lead and it’s actually pretty great.
Until they actually meet, NK has done nothing different than they’ve done a bunch of times before. The only difference so far is that the President said yes.
You mean aside from dismantling a nuclear test site, which satellite imagery shows they’re doing?
Yeah, this was a site that had already collapsed and killed over two hundred NK citizens.
Kim is just trying to make a concession that had already been conceded.
That’s gotta be from 2.7 right? I remember his technicolor grade to be a bit warmer.
Compared to the Blu-ray, my version is significantly brighter and warmer, an interpretation of the Tech film as it was captured in the neutral light of the scan. Dre’s version is closer to a 70’s projection.
