That might work.
That might work.
Some interesting ideas! Depending on how you play with transitioning from shot for shot, you might also consider that there is a shot of Luke placing his hand on R2 from the second TFA teaser that doesn’t have that rain transition like the final film does.
You absolute genius, thank you! That was exactly the problem I was having with the transitions.
I will definitely keep these ideas in mind. Faster, more intense. I wonder if jumping straight from Leia to the dream would read well, but there’s only one way to find out 😃
So I’m stumped on how to implement RogueLeader’s idea for Rey’s dream. I’ve put together a vague collection of ideas, but there’s not even any voiceover:
JEDIT: Deleted Video
Some things I really want to include:
-using discarded shots of R2 waking up/Rey seeing R2’s map. I don’t know how this would segue into the dream, but it would strongly seed the idea of her fixing R2 from this early point.
-Something concerning the island tree. It’s not necessary for this film, but going forward it would give more weight to her ‘only in dreams’ comment.
Unfortunately, these two concepts don’t necessarily flow from the context of the previous scenes. Both are moderately peaceful or hopeful, whereas her experiences immediately prior to this were nothing but disturbing and violent. What the scene calls out for is a series of quick cuts to ever more anxiety-inducing music as she relives the past few hours, up until she is awakened.
One thought: The series of images and sounds builds and builds until it is unbearable, then there is silence. The island appears, and Rey approaches the tree. She reaches out for the books, and in response she sees the vision of R2 and the map revealed. Then she wakes up.
That’s my thought. I’m open to others, however. 😃
It is still a child. I don’t think it translates
1:1 with human aging, but this species has a particularly long infancy-early childhood stage. There might be something unique to the Yoda species regarding Force sensitivity, but it’s already been established in canon that Force-sensitive babies in general have a predisposition to using the Force, regardless of species. The idea being, I’m assuming, that babies and young children lack some of the qualities that adults have that can hold back their ability to use the Force (like doubt or disbelief). And it is possible that the time he spends in this young childhood stage plays a part in why he can lift a mudhorn vs a toy ball.
This exactly. There’s a lot of evidence from the movies (especially the prequels) which points to early training as extremely important in developing skill in the Force, and I think you’re right that it has to do with the lack of a rigid experiential framework present in adults. So if the Yoda species has this super long developmental period, it stands to reason that most of the members of this species would gain some Force abilities. I imagine it could be something like 50% or more of the species would have this ability into adulthood, while for humans that percentage would be far less because of how rapidly they progress through infancy. Of course, I doubt that baby Yoda could really control the Force or plan to use it in advance.
There’s also the angle of hereditary Force sensitivity, and it may be that Yoda’s species is essentially just one family, that is if their method of reproduction is different enough to avoid the effects of inbreeding.
It’s an interesting question.
What’s really weird though is that the creatures look a lot sharper in the D+ version than the Blu-ray. I think you’re right about them using the 1997 version of the buildings and environment, but maybe in the Blu-ray they applied a strong temporal sharpening filter on it so that the stationary objects became super sharp. This would lead to the moving creatures losing detail to blur.

This is all I want out of TROS, one adventure with the trio together.
I like to think of the dark side referencing the unknown or mysteries of the Force. “If one is to understand the great mystery, one must study all its aspects…”
Mysteries that the Jedi are too afraid to explore. It is more likely the Jedi came up with the terms “light” and “dark” to reference how the two sides relate to positive and negative emotions. But Sith kept using the term in defiance of the Jedi doctrine. Or it could be a combination of both ideas.
But that’s all in-universe.
I think this is the best explanation of the use of ‘Dark Side’, but this would require the context of Sith dropping the term in favor of something else when not in the presence of Jedi. After all, according to Palpatine the Sith use a wider array of emotions (and presumably positive emotions) than can be encapsulated by the term. In this way the Sith’s philosophy would become genuinely seductive because of its all-inclusiveness.
I like the explanation that the Bat’leth was made intentionally cumbersome as a metaphorical middle finger to Klingons who opted for ‘dishonorable’ energy weapons, and has since become a point of cultural and historical pride.
This is wonderful!
Added trailer for television:
War of the WorldsI’m not feeling that tripod design. Otherwise, shut up and take my money!
The Speilberg Tripod design was close to perfect.
It had legs which evoked the shape and power of tornadoes walking in a ballet of haunting sinuous motion, and the alien, hooded head of a venomous snake. The only way it could have been improved is if the legs were longer and joined at a smaller, less mechanical head.
It seems that waiting to make some of these changes has been fortuitous in hindsight. For the Kanjiklub subtitles, they are burned into the Blu-ray but are apparently not on the D+ stream. Has anyone managed to capture that scene without subs?
In a somewhat organized list of things incomplete or entirely missing, not including timecode removal or changes requiring newly recorded dialogue:
ACT I
-Incomplete: Restructure of opening scene where Poe shoots first, then Tekka is killed. Not sure if this plays better than theatrical, so it may not be used anyway.
-Incomplete: The scene of BB-8 at Rey’s house. I may just have the BB-8 portion as a brief interlude between the interrogation and Poe’s rescue, skipping Rey’s dream.
-Not Started: The activation of the Falcon tracking device when Rey starts the Falcon for the first time in years.
ACT II
-Incomplete: Finalize new subs for Kanjiklub establishing the First Order more explicitly as a power in the galaxy.
-Not Started: Subtitle Maz Castle aliens and extend their scene.
-Not Started: Lightsaber handed to Leia in Rey’s vision. Probably won’t include due to potential use in TROS.
-Not Started: Rey sees Pirate’s ship when she runs from the castle. Another change I may not implement due to effort/payoff calculation.
-Not Started: Finn runs to Kylo’s shuttle earlier. Done 12-4-19!
-Incomplete: RogueLeader’s suggestion of a brief dream sequence before Rey’s interrogation.
-Incomplete: Clean up stray echoes in the multichannel audio for the second Snoke scene. Done 12-3-19!
ACT III
-Incomplete: Custom matte of TIE fighters starting up as Rey climbs down the wall in the hangar.
-Incomplete: Foley and flashes of light when Kylo looks towards the Oscillator from the Falcon.
-Incomplete: Foley and audio cleanup to Rey’s vision of Luke/R2 revealing the map.
-Incomplete: Improve final shot of Falcon jumping to hyperspace before the credits.
It feels like a lot, I know. But compared to the changelist on the first page, I’ve actually done most of it. The really tricky stuff would be the 4-5 areas of the film where I would like to include more dialogue, and that will probably not be ready for this workprint version. I will probably also not complete all of the above changes in time, so the workprint will omit any not yet done in time.
Apropos of nothing, but I don’t think I’m prepared to imagine the state of the urinals in a Stormtrooper barracks.
I’ve actually never seen it or even heard all of the songs in order…
ducks tomatoes
…but my girlfriend was a theatre major and I’ve probably assimilated the entire thing through osmosis regardless. I won’t tell her you got tickets, she would be jealous.
So yes, I’m into it 😃
Hahaha, my sister is going to love this.
I take it she’s big into Reylo and/or Hamilton?
I will never not hate Yarael Poof.
Robot Chicken has made him into my favorite Jedi.
The Saga: Star Wars with Tommy Wiseau - The full story
I want more, and I know I shouldn’t.
Something something British Empire tea crumpets Kylo Ren.

Just an idea I had.
JEDIT: Should put this in the general videos thread. Ima do that.
It must be Luke’s hair, right?
I think the sweep of the planet/moon/circle thing works to complete Luke’s head.
I really like that one. It’s painterly and subtle while still being bold in its overall effect.
Just have Greedo’s lifeless, twitching corpse shoot second.
Hahahahahahahahaha
2002 was a strange time. But hey, I guess he was just a really early Rose Byrne fan.
Wow, it looks like I am disconnected from most of pop culture these days; I had no idea this actress went on to do anything whatsoever!
She’s good in Sunshine (2007), which happens to be my favorite film. It’s funny, I realized just a year or two ago that she was even in Star Wars.
