Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

So now that I've gotten DosBox reinstalled on my computer, I've been revisiting my childhood quite a bit. See, when I was a kid, I didn't have an NES or SNES (my first console was actually an N64). Unlike my friends, I grew up on old-school DOS games (shareware mostly), like Duke Nukem in his side-scroller days, as well as Commander Keen (still a great platformer). But lately I've been playing a game that I don't think I've played since I was 8 or 9 years old, if even that old. It's a spin-off of Sierra's "The Incredible Machine" game called "Sid & Al's Incredible Toons". If you can find it anywhere, I suggest you do. It's highly addictive.

terminator 2 - the first is an original, but once again in the 2nd , it made the terminator into a wimp, and ruined the

evil dead 2 - good horror the first time around, just corny the second

In most of the entries on your list, the originals weren't even that good to begin with (Species, Bad Boys, etc. ) but these two stuck out to me. To me, Terminator 2 improved on the original (practically a b-movie that somehow got popular) in pretty much every aspect.

As far as Evil Dead goes, the first one was pretty tongue-in-cheek with its approach to horror anyway, and the second one stuck some comedy in it without losing all of the horror (unlike Army of Darkness, where they just went all-out comedy). I'd actually go so far as to say that Evil Dead 2 is my favorite horror movie of all time (and I've seen quite a few).

There may be a higher prevalence of someone becoming addicted when they start using from a young age but the fact of the matter is that anyone at any age came become highly addicted to drugs. It takes a mere string of bad luck to push some people over from casual user to highly addicted. And older people usually have the means to purchase the hardcore drugs. I also think its extremely foolhardy for people to write off “casual” drug use of socially acceptable drugs as not a big thing. Alcohol being a prime example, has taken more lives than most any other drug out there. But people still think No real harm if people are “responsible” BS. As Ive said Ive known a close person who has gone from the “small,” stuff to the hardcore drugs and ruin their lives, Ive knew a kid from high school who overdosed and died because of it (who was a casual user). I knew another kid from high school who was drinking during his birthday, fell over a railing from a few stories up and is permanently disfigured because of it. A long time family friend who graduated with High Honors from Harvard happened to be moderately drunk one night after graduating, fell off over a balcony and died. So to say that these “causal” drugs are harmless is profoundly stupid to say. It takes nothing more than a slight mishap while drunk or high for some serious bad sh!* to occur, but by all means think of drug use as a casual thing to do, but don’t think you cant be just another statistic because of your “casual” lifestyle, and because you do it “responsibly” Hahanah so ridiculous.

Okay, I'm going to say this again: it is IMPOSSIBLE for someone to become physically dependent on marijuana. It is possible to become psychologically addicted to it, as it is possible to become psychologically addicted to just about any consumable substance. It is also IMPOSSIBLE to overdose on weed (I assume this is what you meant by "the small stuff"?).

I actually fibbed in an earlier post becomes I didn't feel like divulging too much of my personal life to a fuckstick like you, but I changed my mind. I have two very good friends who descended very deep into drugs, one of whom with meth, the other with just about every drug you can possibly think of and then some. The latter ended up having a moderate mental breakdown and had to take several prescription drugs every day to keep his mind afloat (he showed me all the stuff he had to take; it was literally a gallon-size Ziploc bag full of pill bottles). And do you want to know what happened to both of them? They both cleaned up their fucking act, and now they're both sober and perfectly fine. The latter weened himself off of his prescription meds;  he feels better than he has in four years and he is no longer overweight. What I'm getting at is that even though people can and do get addicted, part of it also has to do with willpower, and those that have an addiction can quit if that is what they really want, if they truly want to give up whatever desirable effects the drug provides them if it is ruining their lives.

Hey now, I cut my hair off quite some time ago! :P

And you're right, marijuana is not physically addictive, along with other hallucinogens (LSD, mushrooms, etc.) because they primarily affect your mind, not your body. The only ones that can become physically addictive are drugs that affect you physically (cocaine, PCP, etc.) And no, I don't know that from experience. :P

Hey now, if we're gonna be in a "flame war" (albeit a tame, joking one :P ) You're gonna have to play fair. Posts from this site only. :P

In all seriousness though, most of the time alcohol is what causes people to lose their inhibitions. Weed doesn't, for the most part (because there are always exceptions). At least personally-speaking; with alcohol I want to wander off and do something ridiculous (I believe I jumped off a friend's roof into his pool once when drunk, although to be fair this roof in particular was quite close to the ground), whereas when I'm high all I want to do is sit on the couch and eat.

By the way, weed speeds up one's metabolism, which is what causes "the munchies". I bet if someone smoked weed a lot and didn't eat when high, it'd be a killer way to lose weight. :P

Well, let's get this straight.

a) I guess I'm still technically a teen, but just barely (I'll be 20 in a few months) and

b) I want you to find for me, and quote for me, the post where I said that I used drugs to lose inhibition. I'm not a "user" by any means. I'll have a joint once a month or so out of sheer boredom, and unless someone is ripping you off, $20 will have you perfectly fine for one night. In fact, I haven't smoked since March. I've just come to terms with the fact that weed is not that big of a deal. It's virtually harmless (it contains most of the same toxins as cigarettes, but since I smoke anyway, that is irrelevant to me).

Never used it and proud to be unlike most everyone :) Have you ever had someone close to you become a hardcore drug user after starting on the "small" stuff and ruin their life because of it? I didnt have anything "profound" to ask you that came from a stand up comedian, so I figured Id ask something that I actually experienced rather then use someone elses "life experience" :p

No, I don't know a single person that has done that. At all. Because

a) that's a worst-case scenario, and

b) anyone with at least half a brain can control themselves, and the ones that can't are living proof of natural selection in action.

And it makes me happy that I dont use my money on a plant :p hahahaha

So you've never purchased fruits, vegetables, or flowers for a special someone? Damn, I weep for both your digestive system and your love life. :P

Ahhh..The good ol' days of the Ganja....Man, I miss smoking that shit. But I suppose we all have to take priorities in life when we become fathers.

Still, I do miss my weed!!

And Ghost man, why you being such a dick...Over at Ady's thread you seem pretty cool, so why you being such an arse over here??

Just F'ing around...having fun :)

On another note, It really irks me when people enjoy weed. Being high on life is the best and only way to go :p If you need a substance to be chill/relaxed or to enjoy life more at times, I just feel sorry for those people. Dont mean to put anyone down directly, just on the topic.

As Doug Stanhope once said, the only people who are anti-drug (anti-weed, more specifically) are those that have never tried it, and those that sucked at doing it. Which one are you, GhostAlpha?

Well, I knew homebrew was an option, but I thought you were saying that SoMI was actually released on DS at some point. I've actually got ScummVM on my laptop (with all the games mentioned above, plus a few others). Are you sure that Monkey Island 3 won't run on the DS? I know Grim Fandango and Monkey Island 4 won't (they were programmed with LUA, not SCUMM), but Monkey Island 3 runs just fine on ScummVM. Does it have something to do with the 3D rendering in the game, or simply the fact that the files themselves are so large?

To me it feels like Twilight Princess hasn't been out that long, but I guess it has been a few years now. Didn't Phantom Hour Glass just come out last year? I still haven't gotten around to beating Windwaker, and I have yet to play Twilight Princess (figured I'd beat Windwaker first and wait for the price to come down on TP before buying it). They have been whipping Zelda titles out left and right over the past few years, maybe a short break isn't too bad of an idea.

My list of games I am currently working my way through:

Resident Evil Deadly Silence (DS)

The Secret of Monkey Island (DS)

Metroid II (DS)

Super Metroid (DS)

Windwaker (GC)

Biohazard 4 (PC)

Half-Life 2: Episode One (PC)

God of War II (PS2)

Metal Gear Solid 2 (PS2)

Republic: The Rovolution (PC)

Looking at the list you'd think I was living several years in the past, which isn't too far from the truth.

I desperately want to play Bioshock, but I lack the hardware to do so. Once Resident Evil 5 is out and they make a Xbox 360 port of MGS 4, I will consider buying a 360 just to play those three games.

They released "Secret of Monkey Island" on DS?! When did this happen?!

Speaking of adventure games, has anyone else played Telltale Games's "Sam & Max" episode games?
