What we like about the Prequels
Time

I'm with zombie84 in that I really liked Watto. He was probably one of the best parts of the trilogy for me.

A lot of scenes in the prequels are bittersweet for me, because I liked the ideas but was disappointed by the way they were done. For instance, I was really excited by the fact that Boba Fett was going to be an integral part of AotC, and that the Slave I would be in it and all that, but I was disappointed by the way it was actually done.

The colosseum scene in AotC was pretty awesome though, before the Jedi showed up anyway.

So here's a list of what comes to mind at the moment:

TPM: Watto, Darth Maul vs Obi Wan (the three-way fight was way too fancily-choreographed, but I remember everyone cheering in the theatre when that force field went down and Obi Wan just released the fury on Darth Maul)

AotC: the colosseum scene, the fact that Christopher Lee was in it

RotS: I honestly can't think of anything. I've only made it all the way through once

When was the last time you actually watched a prequel? (Or: Revenge of the Sith still blows.)
Time

So a few days ago, I was telling a friend of mine about the "Backstroke of the West" bootleg, which he'd never heard of, and we decided to watch it last night. I was looking forward to this for two reasons: 1) I mean come on, those subtitles are hysterical, and 2) I'd never been able to sit through the entire Revenge of the Sith movie since I'd seen it in theatres 5 years ago, and I was going to make it this time, dammit.

We sat down, pressed play, and the laughs start coming. Engrish is one of those things that will always be funny to me. After about half an hour though, I started losing focus on the subtitles because I was distracted by how bad the actual movie was. Seriously, this movie is even worse than I remembered. I actually remember liking it in the theatres (when I was 16 and therefore my taste in everything sucked by definition), but for the love of christ, I could not get over how much of a shitpile this movie is. It's like the people responsible for writing the Twilight movies decided to shit out a Star Wars script. Even with the amusing subtitles I only made it about half-way through this abortion of a movie. It just made me really angry because I know that at some point I actually paid money to see this fucking movie.

So dear fellow forum members, I ask you: when was the last time you actually watched a prequel? And, now that they've had several years to settle and the hype is all but dead, do they suck as bad as you remember?

I'm not gonna lie, the graphics on the PS2 version look like ass, but since the primary focus is the colored dots moving toward you on the screen (it is just a jazzed-up rhythm game, after all), that doesn't really matter.

I do enjoy these types of games, mostly because I'm one of those people that is listening to some kind of music almost all the time, and it gives me a way to get a little more interactive with it (as opposed to just sitting on the couch with headphones on). The music in DJ Hero is by far the most adventurous that's been put in to a music game so far (come on, it's got a 50-Cent/David Bowie mash-up in it!); one of the reasons I got burned out on the Rock Band-type games is because I just got sick of hearing the same old boring stadium rock songs over and over again.

The Guitar Hero franchise has been getting progressively shittier ever since Guitar Hero 2, which is the last game that Harmonix and Red Octane worked on together, and there's a reason for this. Harmonix, who eventually started the Rock Band franchise, are musicians. Red Octane, who kept making Guitar Hero games, are programmers. So with Guitar Hero, they would throw in a ton of extra notes/noodling purely for the sake of difficulty, and it just stopped being fun. The Rock Band franchise has at least striven  to be a little more realistic, and I appreciate that.

Ok, so then you have contributed no projects/edits/preservations to the site/community except a cut list which is available in just about each individual thread first post outlining each persons edit/revision.

That is all I wanted to know

There are plenty of people who lurk the off-topic forum who haven't contributed any projects/edits/preservations, I don't see why you feel the need to single out Frink about this. That's why this is the OFF TOPIC section. I could tell you that you haven't contributed any good discussions in this section and to go back to the Fan Edit section, but I'm not going to, because I'm not an asshole.

We enjoy a degree of freedom on here that other forums don't and yet it never really gets bogged down with trollish behaviour because of the levity and good sense of the people that use it.

When I read that bit about not getting bogged down by trolling, I actually laughed out loud without meaning to. I decided not to say anything about it because I was sure it would result in me being accused of having dead insects in my anus, or of being too serious, or spawn some whiny new joke thread (like New Politics). Then Comp piped up and said exactly what I thought, so I decided out of fairness I should chime in my agreement.

I didn't call you (Fink) a troll. And while you did cease to post pictures in the politics thread when asked, other members decided to turn it into a fight. On a forum that has a real balance of seriousness and levity, that sort of bullshit immature behavior wouldn't happen.

For the record, I like the levity too. I don't want strict rules either. Bingo's picture in response to my post on the last page was one of the most humorous things I have seen in a while, I loved it. But you cannot deny the fact that just about every thread is the same these days, hence Comp's SOS comment. I don't see much of a balance between levity and seriousness. To me it feels very out of balance. I think you guys are considering the fan edits and preservation sections to be the serious side, and the off-topic to be the side with the "levity". Off-Topic itself is very nearly entirely "levity". Which is fine, as has already been admitted by me, that is obviously what the majority wants.

The off-topic section has always been this way, I don't understand why you've suddenly gotten all been out of shape about the state of this place over the past month or so. Let's face it, the off topic section has always been, for lack of a better word, retarded. Would you rather it go back to being completely dead like it was post-mass-member-exodus-to-Dayv's-and-Warb's-forums for several months before TV's Frink showed up? If anything he's the one responsible for pumping some damn life into this place again.

OCP may have contributed a few things, but honestly, none of them that good by any means (SW Classic was atrocious, though I will admit his SW documentary, that I currently forget the name of, was pretty cool though). His obvious true talent was in selling the works of others.

His "The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled" edit was awesome, but I haven't seen any of his other stuff.

That's odd, I thought they did a way better job with the voice acting in the 2nd special edition, especially with the timing. I thought the MI2 special edition overall was much more polished than the first one, I guess since they learned from their mistakes the first time around. The only voice actor I wasn't that happy with was Largo, but other than that I thought the cast did a decent job.

As far as Curse of Monkey Island goes, I think there are 3 main factors that made the game feel different from the previous 2. 1) None of the 3 principal guys (Gilbert, Schafer, and Grossman) were involved, 2) Voice acting for the first time changing the way we looked at the characters (kind of like how everyone thought Mario sounded like a guy from Brooklyn until Super Mario 64 came out), and 3) Bill Tiller's art style (check out A Vampyre Story, which he directed; it has a similar look).

You need to check out the Tales of Monkey Island series. I know Dave Grossman was involved, as well as Jonathan Ackley and Larry Ahern from CoMI, and I believe Ron Gilbert was kind of a consultant on the project as well and came up with some of the new characters (not sure if Tim Schafer was involved or not).
