Info & Discussion: Fullscreen Laserdisc / DVD Preservations
Time

I really like open matte Full screen Versions.

i.e. I've seen From Dusk till Dawn and Desperado open matte on German VHS first, before seeing them widescreen.

I really would love to have the open matte Versions as DVDs, but afaik they were matted for LDs, and they were only Fullscreen on VHS.

My first DVD of Bad Taste was a bad full frame german release, which I gave away after getting a better quality Widescreen Version. Now I am trying to get that again. Same with Evil Dead. I am glad that at least the US company released Evil Dead as Full Frame Version.

I have a german languaged only DVD of an open Matted "Killing Zoe"

Too bad that open Matte Versions seem to die away, because I always loved the way some movies show some more informations, or some faulty of screen things like microphones...

Conan The Barbarian 1982 US Theatrical Edition & BONUS! *RELEASED*
Time

Today I got something in my Mail. :)

It is a BD. :) (I asked for it without artwork and case, to keep shipping costs and costs as down as possible. :) )

I just threw it in my PS3 after admiring the beautiful menu with nice music, I started it with the 2 channel mono sound.

Wow! I can't remind watching Conan, looking so beautiful (the Movie, not the guy. :) ) the warmer colors just give it the feel what I missed watching the regular retail BD.

The audio is astounding.

Now I check the 2.1 DTS-HD MA Track, and I am sure that my neighbors are now aware of me home, thanks to my Subwoofer... The sound just send me shivers down my spine. I may only have 2 speakers and a subwoofer here, but it is just damn great sound.

Thanks to Team Blu, this is an awful great work.

The Bonus Features are also very great. I love the Symphony.

As long as you not want so see al German in that stupid bavarian leather trousers.

I won't say that WalMart is that far from German shopping behaviours, don't forget that we have Metro and Aldi coming from Germany. And Germany always was kind of a melting pot of cultures.

But, I think it is not a good thing that it is so difficult, to held people who exploit a social system  accountable. It is one thing if someone just cannot work, but it is another thing not even trying.

Too Many Darths on the Forum

hairy_hen said:

The Darths in the movies tend to be abbreviations of words that start with letters 'I N'.  InVader, InSidious.  So--to fit with the ridiculous notion that 'Darth' was ever meant to be a title, there should really be a character called Darth Ane.

So a xxx Star Wars Parody would get a Darth Cest? Or Maybe a Darth Truder... What would be other "cool" Darth's with this sheme?

Darth Ception

Darth Sane

Darth Sect

Darth Convenience

Darth Surance

It is strange how cool it seem to be giving himself a "Bad guy's name" To bad Jedi's did not have such Name convention, so we could gather more Jedi to fight the evil Darth's...

Is it confirmed that for that release, the extended version is the Blu-Ray and not one of the included DVDs? Nevertheless, I'd be interested to see an extended edit of Evil Dead II if the AV is acceptable.

It is a collaboration between BMV-Medien and StudioCanal.

I found an older news (from 05-25-13) saying that it will be two BDs and one DVD. On BD and DVD a remastered release (the first german release was quite annoying) and on the second BD the extended, wich was only avaible as bootleg, yet, with the scenes added back onto the HD material. So the new scenes is not the same quality, as the rest of the movie.

There is an announcement that Evil Dead 2 will be released September th 12th this year on BluRay in Germany by "BMV-Medien".

A so called 25th anniversary with a so called "extended cut" with a announced running time of 86:52 minutes. (About 2 1/2 minute longer than normal Version)

It is announced as a 3 Disc Set. (I assume 1 BD, with two DVDs, one containing the movie, one the extras)

Extras are stated to be:

  • commentary by Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, Scott Spiegel & Greg Nicotero
  • Swallowed Souls [98:13 Min.]
The Making Of Evil Dead 2
  • Cabin Fever- A Fly on the Wall [30:22 Min.]
    Behind the Scenes
  • Road to Wadesboro [8:09]
    Set Revisited
  • The Gore The Merrier [31:51 Min.]
  • Trailer [1:29 Min.]
  • Interview with Bruce Campbell (23:43 Mins)

Edit:

I assume they will put SD MAterial Blown up into the Movie, and that there will be no new master. (...answered before someone need to ask this :) )

but then we'd have to get rid of the urinals, wouldn't we?  I mean would it really be appropriate for a man to stand at a urinal, do his business, while females could be walking around the bathroom?

You've never been on a metal festival, haven't you?

Here at a local festival at some point the aiting line on the women's restroom is quite.. bad, while on the men's room ist is more or les short. So oftne there are women just using the men's room. And:

No one cares. Guys standing at the urinals just ignore the women, while they just ignore the guys at the urinal.

On the other hand, a guy never enter the women's restroom there. (well I would say because the waiting line is longer, but I thing men won't do it, if it would be otherwise.

Sexism isn't just a men problem.

Some femisists are just going to extreme in the other side. In a perfect non sexist world, there won't be any need of gender specificated toilet, even if I really have to say, I really enjoy the silence on a men's restroom, no talking, just.. well.. not allways such silent.

The best way would be some kind of the bathroom system:

Men, women and "I just don't care whom I am sitting next to"-toilet.

Some people just feel more easy on a gender specificated restroom.

See the comparison link I posted above. The Italian release isn't the best IIRC, with heavy DVNR. The French and Japaneese are far more worthwhile.

I would say that the italian BD is less filtered, than the japanese.. as far as I follow the links on the link...

It may has much more noise, but also more details, if I look at the caps.

Yes. There was at one point, but it's not very good.  I deleted it a while back.

The EE does not really harm the film, in my opinion, but I can see why people would want the theatrical.  Are there alternate takes like Amadeus?  If not, editing the BD would be the way to go.

There are about 3 alternate takes which are not in the EE as in the TC.

Bummer! Had high hopes.

Is the audio mix the same as the Hong Kong BD?

I have no possibility to check, because I lack knowledge how to measure it.

The japanese has thre Audio potions, as far as I see the japanese language they seem all be same language.

- 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio

- 7.1 Dolby True HD

- 6.1 Dolby Digital Surround EX

I think the coming A Better Tomorrow trilogy discs will be an equal disapointement, because they also seemed to be licensed from Fortune Star, as "The Killer".

Today I got my shipement from yesasia containing the japanese BDs of "The Killer" and "Hard Boiled", together with the Hong Kong BDs of "The Killer" and "Bullet in the Head".

Short story: The japanese BD of "The Killer" is quite a shame calling it a BD. Okay, it need about 20 gig of space, but the quality is.. very bad.

I am not that critical person, because I really seen bad DVD releases in GErmany, only gladful that we even got movies, but here I will stick with my e-m-s DVD for sure:

MrBrown I also have the Ultimate Army of Darkness coming as well as the France version which I should have any day now, but do you know if the Koch version of Inferno is still available?

Thanks

Inferno seems not to be sold out, you just won't find it on amazon.de due to the fact that it is Indiziert. I still see a german shop (ofdb.de) selling it for € 29,98.

And dtm.at sells it for 21.99 €.

Both prices don'T include shipping.

The German shop seems not selling international, but I think someone from the blu-ray.com forum bought something at dtm.at.

Sorry about that, I'm excited too.

If The Killer, ABT, etc are as good as the Japanese Hard Boiled BD is, I will die a happy man... AFTER I've seen the BD's, of course. :)

I don't think the captures I got from PowerDVD do the film justice, but the Japanese BD is a *huge* improvement over the US BD. I have not seen the movie yet on my TV but just took screens of it to show everyone.

I understand your excitement. I really waiting for the Discs myself. Even If I don't know the results with the Killer I allreaddy ordered the japanese and the Hong Kong Boxes of "A Better Tomorrow" also, just to compare them.

They may arrive in May, hopefully.
