Does anyone have any sound effects laying around that could depict bursting through the ice wall, maybe some shimmer or WOOoooosh of trailing off into hyperspace? If foley can be identified the music wouldn’t be as problematic. (This is the kind of thing I’d spend an hour doing myself if I were able. Getting audio to feel right really does take patience. I may be able to at some point but I toss out my thought process in case anyone does come across something suitable.)

I’ve just spent the morning figuring it out! If you take the whoosh sound of the final lightspeed skip before the transition and lay it over the clip just after the wall burst, it fits perfectly for a seamless transition with sound and cut just before the TIE comes into frame. I hope that helps you fix the sound issue. I think it works great.

The only thing I noticed is there’s no sound of Rey panting. Is this from the source material or Jonh’s clip?

Excellent work on removing the music perfectly though.

If you watch closely most of the dialogue is delivered off camera or while peoples backs are turned. It’s not just Leia. It’s weird!

I’m just running through the whole movie again and just noticed there’s a prop change just before the Death star Duel.

When Rey says “Give it to me!” And it cuts to Kylo, the wayfinder seems much bigger than the next scene where he crushes it.

Has anyone else noticed this or an I just being too picky?

I’ve tried to edit it out but there’s not enough footage between shots.

I’ve been playing with my edit but the timing if off for my cut. It may work for someone else. I think it’s a great spicy balanced track of both songs.

I know * a lot* of people use DigModiFicaTion’s blender tutorial… I found it difficult to use but I think that’s mainly due to noob-ness with blender and there has been some changes with Blender 2.8 but look into that if you know blender.

I’ve never used blender for 2D stuff. It seems overkill. I’ll have a look. Thanks!

Haha haha! I’ve seen so many so there must be a setting to do them. Even iMovie has one but the letter spacing is awesome.

Has anyone thought about removing the dagger?

I’ve figured a way of doing it but it means removing a large amount of the movie, I.e. Lando intro etc.

Rey finding it in Kylos chamber when she picks it up can be the first time she sees it.

It’s just an idea as I hate that macguffin!!

I have a special request if anyone is good with VFX. I would like to have the blood removed from Rey’s face in the celebration scenes. My edit is removing Palpatine entirely. The Rey vs. Kylo duel is used for the climactic battle and she has no blood when she goes to Ahch-To after, so she shouldn’t suddenly be covered in blood when she goes from there to the celebration. I have no idea if this is easy or difficult, but I thought I’d ask since there is a lot of amazing work being done here.

That’s a whole lotta work for a small detail.

It’s so difficult to explain how I’ve restructured my edit. Did you see my change list on my The Last Hope thread?

There literally isn’t 2 full minutes of the movie where I haven’t changed something.

Just watching my new rough cut now and moving Kylos flashback scene and the helmet scene as an opener and then Mustafa after board meeting works really well.

That way Rey mentions the wayfinder as an introduction to it rather than kylo just picking up a triangle and going to a place to see Palpatine. Pacing seems to really work better than way too.

Sorry Hal, Still getting to grips with this site on my phone. It’s a nightmare keeping up with all the messages and threads.

I felt having the Mustafa scene at the beginning was like telling a punchline of a joke before you have a setup. Kylo already going to Exagol and having a Wayfinder at the start leaves no tension or chase with the protagonists. Leaving it for after the board meeting not only gives a great line for a setup but eliminating any mention of Kylo going to Exagol makes room for the cat and mouse situation to happen.

I’m trying to bring it up here as I got my ass handed to me on reddit but…

Did anyone debunk the fact that Ray destroys kylo ren’s whisper after she jumps over it but then 2 seconds later it’s back? Both Vader and kylo Ren had prototypes before I.e. the silencer, so why would he have an extra as it was a specifically modified Interceptor?

I’ve fixed it but wondering people’s thought?

Where I’m struggling is I’m trying g to work out how we adequately introduce each of the characters in their own settings to set the sequence in motion.

As I said, it’s nothing more than just an idea/concept atm I have no idea if/how it could be implemented yet…but I thought I’d put it out there incase it lights a spark with someone who might be able to run with it properly?

Anyhow…

I’m a sucker for comparison shots like that! It’s a great idea but I think the soundtrack would be a nightmare…

Do you have a link to a completed version? I saw your editing videos on Youtube, but I’d like to see what it looks like as a continuous scene with transitions in and out.

My internet has dropped to less than 0.7mb upload so I’m struggling to do anything right now. Had an engineer out today but they sent the wrong guy. I’ve set up a Vimeo account so as soon as It’s sorted I’ll share a bunch of my new scenes with everyone.

I really enjoy how everyone interacts with each other here. It’s such a breath of fresh air seeing star wars fans being positive even if they disagree with one another.

I did a similar cut removing all of Leia’s parts. The scene seems to flow so much smoother when it’s father and son. It has so way more gravitas removing that part, IMO.

That is amazing! I’m only on a phone scene but it looks great. Maybe a little too grey scale compared to the amount of blues on the X-wing but very impressive.

Is it tricky? I’m looking for someone to help add an X-wing to a background in the exactly way?
