Glad you pointed out about Finn saying “so few wayfinders” I was going to look up the script to see if that’s what he actually said as he didn’t even know what a wayfinder was less than an hour ago.

The way I cut it was to use the 4 beat clean music clip from the opening segment over Finn’s line and overlay it with a cutaway to BB8 using the desert scene from TFA when he first meets Rey.

Yeah it was actually a little involved getting rid of that line and making everything else work. The problem is as he’s walking by he’s clearly moving his mouth as he says the line. I ended up having to foley in some more canister whooshing sounds and move one of Poe’s lines.

I’m glad you’re on the same page. I’m getting nervous about my release as I’ve seriously hacked every single scene to an inch of its life. 🤣

25. Cut Finn’s line to Poe in the Falcon, “Get us back to base” and cut his glance over just before he says it.
26. During the lightspeed skipping, cut Finn’s loud reaction and replaced his loud lines, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” And “HOW DO YOU KNOW HOW TO DO THAT?” He’s now calmer and maybe more in tune with the force.
27. Cut Rey greeting Finn and Rey’s extended argument with Poe over lightspeed skipping. This removes Finn’s sassy-pants line “always” referring to Poe being in a bad mood as well as Finn’s eye rolls, huffing, and acting like a sassy mother hen.
28. Cut Finn’s useless line, “It’s true” to Rey after Poe storms off.
29. Cut Finn’s useless line, “I’ve never seen so few Wayfinders” to depict him as more wise than wisecracking.
30. Cut Finn’s prolonged glancing at the rope before he throws it at the Stormtrooper speeder bike. This was overly showing us “hey look Finn’s getting an idea.”
31. As Finn is sinking into the sand, cut his line about telling Rey something.
32. Cut Rey and Finn’s conversation about the secret he had to tell her.
33. The final briefing ends with Poe speaking, cutting Finn’s lackluster line about taking the war to them.
34. Cut Finn’s lines, “Lando you did it. YOU DIIIIID IT!!!”
35. Trimmed Finn and Jannah running on top of Falcon mid-flight so they don’t ridiculously pause to sightsee the destruction around them.
36. Cut Finn’s line about everyone in the galaxy rising. Too little too late Finn.

I know this isn’t an entirely important edit, but in comparison to TFA and TLJ, Ahch-To in TROS feels very barren and lifeless (other than that one shot of the two porgs), there is always usually porgs far off in the distance making noise. Maybe adding in Porg noises in the distance would help it feel more like Ahch-To?

From what I remember, porgs weren’t in TFA at all. I had to add sound effects from TLJ for TFA closing shots to match. I think they were only invented to cover up the amount of noise due to the island being a bird sanctuary. Totally get what you mean about TROS Ahch-To.

You’d think wasting all that money going to Jordan to film on green screen that they’d at least wait til breeding season was over and reshoots on Ahch-To instead of filming in a studio. It REALLY show.

First clip sounds a little loud but the DSII is awesome. Really nice idea.

I like what you did with Kylo/Ben.

The ending was nice but why did you flip Rey and the old lady? The sun comes up on her left side but she now looks right.

So glad you cut Jannah’s snappy reply to Poe on Endor Moon.

I felt the start was a little messy. How about simplifying your scenes and having Kajimii blow up as your opening scene in one?

Pacing just feels even faster than the original with you cutting each scene up and jumping to the helmet scene from opening. The rest of the movie was nicely paced though. Thanks for letting me view it.

Nice test. I think there should be a slight pause after find her… just to break up the wording as it can sound a little muddy with the effect added.

So having those whispers while she is exploring/climbing also is a simple but effective way of being guided to it, again, relying on the dark side once again to make the struggle with the dark and light which kind of later reveals she may have gone through striking down Palps later in the movie if Ben wasn’t there.

Nice cut. I also took out Rey saying “It’s a bad place…”. It’s called THE DEATHSTAR! It’s hardly gonna be full of Bunnies and Candy haha.

Seeing as around 75% of dialogue is said off camera in this movie can’t you add the “just” part off camera and the cut to Rey saying “Rey”?

Just an idea.

Yeah, I’d leave everything the same other than the scene changes I’ve made and the rescore after Rey says “Ben”, then have a second silence and the add the build up the first crescendo across the stars but only use a few seconds before fading to Poe in X-wing celebration.

It works, it’s nice BUT I’m still split on it just remaining Padme’s song.

But then the whole of TROS didn’t stick to the rules I.e. Yoda’s theme with Luke, Leia & Luke theme with Lando & Jannah etc

I don’t think Across the Stars needs to be used. It’s just Anakin and Padmé’s love theme, not a general one. However I think you could place it in the scene where Ben resurrects Rey and it would work well. Mostly because Anakin and Padmé’s relationship was torn apart by Anakin trying to save her. Now Ben literally brings someone back from the dead, so it might be a nice way to tie the prequels together as well. I don’t think that’s necessary though.

That’s exactly why I’m split on using it.

What are planning for the other films’ music? I’m assuming Across the Stars for the Reylo kiss and Battle of the Heroes for the Death Star duel?

I really wasn’t going to add Across the stars but so many people are asking me to add it I’ve put it out to vote. What’s your thoughts?

Ok, I’ve had a lot of people trying to guess what tracks I’m using throughout TROS and Across the Stars keeps coming up.

So, should I use it over Kylo & Rey’s kiss?

It’ll be short but it’ll work if people want me to do it…

A) Yes, that would sound great.
B) No, it’s Anakin & Padme’s song.

I’m currently redoing all my edits as I’ve learnt so much this year. Did them in low res and stereo but I’m working in 1080p and 5.1 but I’m thinking of redoing SOLO, TLJ and TFA in 4k. I’ll let you know when I’ve updated them that scene.
