Totally agree. I was gonna try to remove the lava once all shots are in place. It doesn’t make sense to have the planet healing while still burning.

Also, to my thinking, the lava would continue to flow regardless of the castle being abandoned. I can’t remember all of the other canon/non-canon stories about the castle, but I like to think of the beings that Kylo is fighting as cult members who likely are still inhabiting the castle as a dark shrine of sorts.

Is it possible for you to get a 4k version of that scene so the crop doesn’t lose detail?

I think with the right colour correction and getting a bit Missy Elliott (Flip it & reverse it) those shots wouldn’t look like Rogue One footage that much. Just using raw footage is very fan-edity though.

I’ve actually been working on a few establishing shots…

Wide shot of 3 tie fighters flying to Mustafar in space
Cut to 21C Peasant Castle clip
Then Poppasketti forest flyover
Remove the star destroyer from Battlefront II footage and adding the castle at the end.
Battlefront II Stormtroopers blaster colour change from blue to yellow
Cut to original Kylo fight
Add Castle in Kylo holding Wayfinder

In terms of blending the castle with the rest of the environment, this is the best pass yet! 👍

However, I’m not sure if this is just me, but it seems like the tracking on your second pass was a bit more precise, since closer to the end of this shot the castle seems to become a little floaty. Should be an easy fix though!

I’ve tried several tracking points and I just can’t seem to fix those last few frames. It’s really frustrating but this is only my second project in After Effects so I’d appreciate any advice on how to make it better?

@ziggyonice I’m with you. It’s only 30 years between movies so unless there is an attack or story behind the ruins, that’s still canon I’m not sure it’s worth it but I’m happy to see what @MagMaxx comes up with. Glad you like the clip.

Thanks, @Jar Jar Bricks I appreciate that and agree with you. If it’s too beaten i.e. one of the turrets is broken off etc I think people would miss the point of it being Vaders Castle

@Cinefy, Kewlfish, and I worked on that scene months ago but we felt it was too dark compared to the follow-up shot and had some ghosting content fill as the ship got closer. If anyone knows Element 3D to add the Tie Fighters, I’d give it another try. Maybe @skenera could brighten it up and make it more fitting?

If you can provide images of the castle in ruins I’d be happy to try it but right now we are really limited on good stock photos and footage for it to be done without someone recreating it in 3d.

Yeah, you’re right. As soon as I start messing with the saturation the sky pops too much.

I just used the still provided for now. I don’t think the trees need to be roto’d but I’ve not used any contrasting in AF yet. Where’s the option? I actually thought it was a little too blurry compared to the original so it’s good you think it’s not blurry enough.

The colouration and shaping of that still shot was a little off. If someone can correct that I think it will blend more.

My only issue is being colourblind and not getting the contrast right. If someone can provide a highres image with that done I’ll take a run at the rest. 👍🏼

You did great! I really like the idea of Rey opening the ground with the force.

I did eliminate the first ground opening behind her as she later just runs off where the hope should be. Think that’s a continuety error in the original.

I can’t believe you did that on a phone. Well done.

Absolutely! I’ve been doing loads of work with other editors this past year but prefer to DM. I got annoyed at people using my edits without crediting the people who created them so I’m now only sharing finished scenes once my cut is released (which is hopefully soon)…
