I’m finding the same with After effects. Roto2 tool just doesn’t pick up the colour well. I’m doing something similar with Poe’s shirt and I think I’m gonna have to paint each frame.

On another note, The glitchy Saber effects were pretty easy to do but I’m just trying to find a good spot where the blue glow isn’t too dominant in the rain reflections. That’s gonna be the only issue making this effect work. I’m thinking of using a close-up piece of footage from when Rey ignites the Saber before she jumps Kylos ship. I’ve cut that scene in my edit so it’ll be good to use it elsewhere.

I’ve been trying to work on the dark outfit but it’s extremely difficult the switch white or gray without masking every shot. If anyone knows of a better way, I’d love to learn how?

This is a pretty cool concept and decent execution but I have a few issues with this clip. For one, at this point we’ve already seen Rey force-heal his much more serious saber wound - in turn, I feel like this little scar would’ve already healed during that process. Second, I feel like the scar should close and then fade evenly versus the linear ‘erasing’ effect we see here. The scar itself, however, does look very natural and realistic.

Yeah, I think this was talked about in another thread and someone actually achieved it in EbSynth for a small clip but I think to achieve it in a full scene would take a lot of work.

I think is really easy to have an effect like this. I also like the symbolism of Rey beeing so consumed and drived by her anger on Kylo and that whole situtation that she kinda explodes and stabs Kylo. Just like the Saber that is so overused and forced to be in there, it craclkes ad fails.
That is great editing guys, a simple change enrichs the movie’s themes.
Yeah, I’ve already done some nice tweaks to that scene but this effect would give another great little detail to why her rage gets the better of her. I’ll wait to get the high res crackling scene and see if this works in reality.

Agreed! Maybe use it twice but a different effect on each.

switches off with a spark then reignites.
Just looking at the scene now and it would be very tricky to remove it when she shakes her hand but there are two other points where it would be fairly easy to do.

Dangerous as in the mechanics of the switch blade. It’s more like press the button and hope you keep all your arms, legs, toes and fingers.
