Anyone here with Premiere having issues trying to use this? Not sure if it’s the avi wrapper or whatever codec was used.

Same goes for Luka Frik’s lightsaber clips. Wonder if Premiere just doesn’t play well with .avi? Anyone know?

DUDE! Don’t even get me started. Something has happened this year and I can’t play anything back IRT using VLC, Premiere, or AF. I have to either convert the file or upload it to youtube to see them play properly. I’m losing my S***.

I thought I’d make this quick clip to break those shots up.

I really like the effect! But one thing feels off to me: The Falcon is going from right to left, then Poe is looking left to right, and then the Falcon exits hyperspace right to left. I feel like it throws off the screen direction of the sequence - we know the Falcon is facing left, but Poe is looking in the opposite direction. Consequentially, it feels like Poe is sitting backwards in the Falcon, like he’s facing the rear.

(Frankly, this is pretty sloppy in the J.J. Cut too; but it’s lessened a bit by the next shot being with Finn. So the feeling is less “J.J. goofed up the edit,” and more “Wow, there’s a lot of commotion right now. Which way do I look?”)

I wonder if it might work better if the Poe clip is mirrored? Given how quickly the clip passes, I don’t think it would be super noticeable. Heck, Doctor Who did that very thing with Big Ben. And that was freaking Big Ben.

I agree. I did try that but it then makes Poes face look weird and he’s then sitting in the wrong chair, I then switched the Falcon scene but then the satellite is on the wrong side. I’m putting this down to another JJ booboo and not mine 😉

Yeah agreed, Your idea of the start is very similar to what I’ve done. I’ve changed the beginning completely and delayed Palps entrance.

My version opens up with Kylos (an edited version of Doms) flashback so from the start we know he’s split. Then goes into Luke & Leia’s conversation where Luke asks Leia to “Finish her journey”. Cut to Rey and Leia/training and then Rey introduces the wayfinder so we get an explanation of what it is before any reveal. Then our protagonists go on a journey and cut to Kylo meeting " hunting for the scavenger" then he finds the Wayfinder and hears Palp whisper “Find me!”. I cut the line “every voice inside your head” as I felt in undermines both Vader and Snoke’s characters and made TROS more about Palp returning now without the silly “I’ve been around from the start” “we had a plan all along” crap.

I’m paraphrasing but that delay needed to happen in my opinion just so it feels like the protagonist and antagonist are hunting for the Wayfinder at the same time and that there’s something at stake at least, without just a massive reveal at the beginning.

Ooooh, that new shot for coming out of hyperspace at the start is awesome! Hope you can get some rest, though.

And to answer an earlier question, I shifted the pitch of a long sample of Kylo’s saber and basically move this sound around to match the saber’s movement and presence onscreen. It’s more subtle than Kylo’s sounds to match the more subtle visual effect. It relies on the original audio for swishes and swooshes.

Glad you liked it.

That’s cool. Are you using the pan feature for the sound? I can’t seem to find the pan option I used before. Is there a hotkey or menu I’m missing in premiere?

I’m so desperate to get this movie done so I can move on. It’s been over a year and I still have 5 major scenes to “Complete!”. 2 of my main VFX guys have Covid so it’s all down to me now. Being in the zone is close to sleeping, right? *insane laughter

That would be awesome but I’m not sure we’ve actually got any other recognizable Sith voices that would make sense or stand out unless you use voices from Clone Wars and Rebels?

I’ve added a scene where Palpatine is making Sith clones to suggest all the Monk type characters are “ALL THE SITH” and added ‘Duel of the fate’ choir chant over the introduction of the arena onlookers.

I wonder if it would work better if you flipped the hyperspace matte so the star streaks as they’re slowing down are pointing in the opposite direction. The angle is sort of noticeable as-is.

I think they’re going in the right direction? The hyperspace wormhole was to the right. I used the scene from Rogue One

Hard to tell if it’s actually crackling or if it’s just art interpretation of the glow. I think it’s the latter.

And concept art always looks more interesting than the final product, because drawing lets you get crazier than what camera/sets/props/actors/budget can. That pic is basically what happens in the movie, just not as cartoonish.

Did you not continue to the other pics? nothing like that was in the movie. They actually go inside DSII and fight.

As I hit 30 hours straight it doesn’t feel like I’m sleeping today either so I thought I’d work on this little scene. I’m not sure if you’ve changed it in your recent workprint Hal but I noticed you go from the Falcon in hyperspace to the Falcon coming out of hyperspace going left to right that feels a little weird. I thought I’d make this quick clip to break those shots up. I’m not even sure that even makes sense at this point HAHA!

JEDIT: It appears I muted the centre channel in rendering.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the feedback. I just wanna get this movie finished now so I can move on the others asap!

Quick new scene - T Minus 5 (Between Clips after removing the Holochess & Klaud scenes)

Changes made…

  1. Split T Minus 5 and Finns “R2” shots between the Falcon cuts
  2. Masked Windows
  3. Added background of coming out of hyperspace
  4. Readded dirt in windows
  5. Added slight blur to hide the 80s blue screen effect and match focus in the scene

I can’t see the difference between a dark/navy blue and purple or blood red and woodland green. It’s a nightmare being a colour blind graphic designer.

Damn, just thought. I’m not sure if my source footage has the Skenera’s LUT added. Once these scenes are done it shouldn’t be an issue to switch them out if I make a mistake. (Be awake 25 hours and counting)

This is what I was wondering. Would definitely be best if you remove any LUT before exports.

Yeah, it’ll try to remember for the next lot of scenes. I’m wondering how the LUT will change this effect.

Just to recap, tone down blue or lighten blue? And reduce the mist in the cave?
