Movies Remastered

I do wish a lot of these ideas where suggested in the general thread. There seems to be a nice amount of younger, less experienced editors offering ideas these days and I’m willing to encourage their growth to help their skills/edits rather than just shutting down an idea that isn’t suitable for this cut.

I’ve learnt my best lessons through failure or flushing out the smallest of ideas to see where they go.

I feel the timing is a little rushed and unnatural. Have you tried slowing down the track very slightly, use optical frame and keeping the same pitch for the music?

I’ve done that a few times thought this movie and it’s almost impossible to notice. It may give this line a little more breathing space.

EDIT: How about using it as we see Luke & Leia’s force ghosts just before Rey smiles?

Really nice job, it’s very similar to what I did bit I removed any reference that Kylo doesn’t know where she is. she’s holding the dragged, he should know exactly where she is after seeing that.

The last ‘T minus 5’ clip I recall seeing had the angle of the starlines sort of janky given the angle of the shot. Has there been a revision since then? And at any rate to be certain, would you mind sending me the most recent (unless there was only ever the one version anyway)?

I remasked the windows as they had roundish edges but the falcom has square and slightly blurred them to match the focus of the shot. I thought the stars looked right but many said othetwise. I can change it to which ever direction you feel is right for your edit.

I don’t have access to my drives atm but once I’m set up I’ll upload them to my gdrive for you.

Rey is a nobody in my cut so I feel her connection to her parents can remain pure. I do wanna change the fact they “sold her” though. That part doesn’t sound like caring parents, IMO.

Ochi’s ship can be changed but you’ll have to find a 3d model online of what you’re looking for. To build a new ship from scratch would take way too long for such a short clip. Maybe message Howard Day on YouTube?

There’s a lot of ideas going around but how would they actually be executed with the footage we have? I’d be interested to see any mock-ups.

We’ll according to Disney, Rey has her finger on the “on button” so the shaking is the on switch malfunctioning. Obviously I’ll tweak to motion and timing a little better. I just tried to give a rough scene concept to show what I’m trying to achieve.

Yeah, this conversation has been over three threads now and everyone seems to agree about the flickering. Ive cut the scene fairly heavily and taken Finn out completely so finding the right time to add the effect will be a little tricky. I’m trying to add it around the time Rey hurts her hand but We’ll see as this clip progresses…

Thanks man. This edition is coming on amazingly. Extremely time consuming but the test clips are epic. I can’t wait to see this added to the final cut.

P.S. I cut the “It was fear that kept me here”. line from Luke as I felt it contradicted the “Fear is the destiny of a Jedi” line.

Yeah, I’ve just tried a few scenes and it wasn’t happy at all. So glad it lets you preview each frame as it goes. I could’ve waited a lot of wait time.

I thought they got the chemistry wrong with so many characters in TROS but none worse the Lando & Jannah *shudder. I’m currently planning to roto that scene and put Lando at Leia’s bedside so they’re actually in a scene together.

Agree with no spark out on DSII, That should only happen after the battle. I’m trying to build suspense after Rey’s Saber switches off when she flips and then she struggles to turn it back on as Kylo draws closer.

Yeah, I’ve lost track of which thread this was previously brainstormed in but those scenes are perfect for some tweaking. If anyone else would like to help I’d appreciate it.

Yeah, I don’t wanna use sparks in this scene. I just wanna show that Rey’s battle with Kylo wasn’t fairly matched as her crystal was far more broken than Kylos.

Seeing so many people are asking for a follow-up of the sparking Saber effect I uploaded earlier here is a very crude version of the malfunctioning Saber clip I’ll be making in the battle on the Death Star II. Ignore everything other than timing. Ive had a few people in the past tey using Ebsynth, I’ve got another guy trying with masking atm but if he isn’t able to I’ll have to hand paint each frame which will take forever!!! But that’s basically what I’m doing with every scene from this point so… 🤣

Leia doesn’t die until right at the end of my cut so Poe’s grey shirt needs to be orange to make it look like his jumpsuit as he comes straight from winning the battle to Leia’s bed side.

While we’re on the subject. Does anyone know how to pan audio using keyframes in Premiere? I’ve done it before but completely forgotten.

That’s a good idea about it dimming or flickering. That’ll be much easier to execute.

Palpatines Red Sith lightning.

Removing kylo from the desert scene.

5 new planet scenes.

Finishing Palpatines message scene.

Final 3 end clips that are proving to be more complicated that I’d hoped.

Changing Poes shirt to a jumpsuit orange for end sequence.

Potentially having Lando at Leia’s death bed to replace his weird scene with Jannah.

Malfunctioning Saber effect on death star II.

Maybe a new opening scene with star destroyer heading to Mustafar.

Composition shot of Star Destroyers attacking Coruscant.

Shooting new scene of Ben holding Han’s dice.

Maybe shoot a new scene of Rey building her own Saber (Covid stopped filming)

Removing Luke’s hair blowing in the wind.
