I’m losing track of threads but were there talks on here about the early duel between Rey and Kylo on the ship? I was just wondering if anyone fancied tackling the continuity error of the Sith Dagger disappearing for the last shot?

I don’t think so, I had to lower the gain by -14 or something but it still stood out way more than the original.

The line “A thousand generations…” and “you’ll take two Sabers…” always bugged me. I wanted to find a way of removing them both but this worked out so well it actually compliments the 1000 generation line and sets up the force ghosts for later. Whoop WHoop!

I’ve just packed up for the day but if Nev gets back to me soon I’ll sync up the shot when I have it.
I have changed this whole sequence so I’m not sure how close this clip is to the original anymore. I’m sure others can just trim the parts out that suit.
That almost never works without it being noticable. The good part about this clip is that 3/4 of it Rey is virtually still, it’s just bring up from 53% to 100% without it looking unnatural. Keyframes are weird when it comes to speed. They split rather than an in and out point.
Thanks, it was the first time I’ve had to change the timing within the sequence. It’s not very precise but I’m sure there’s a more visual way of doing it somehow.
Yeah, I’m hoping Nev catches my PM at some point.
MR, do you think you could apply the slowdown to a clip I can send that has Nev’s color correction?

I’ve PM Nev to do one small colour change in that clip. Once that’s done I’ll overlay it to this whole scene.

I may have been looking at this for far too many hours but I’m not happy with the timing change on Rey’s close-up. I’ve had to slow parts down to almost 50% just to get the sequence timing right.
I’m open to scrutiny on this one…?

Poppa, I did exactly as you instructed but the audio was still playing in the left speaker despite being in a dedicated center channel. It works fine with left or right setting but it won’t isolate to the center channel for some reason?
ThisIsCreation the new EQ track seems to have the gain turned up to 11. I’m getting a lot of hissing from that clip when I import it to PP so I wasn’t able to match the current dialogue levels with your effort.
Here’s an update anyway…
Changed the timing of the sequence so it’s a little tighter.
Removed Lukes Close-up
Changed the timing on Rey’s close-up to match the new dialogue.
I’ve played it over and over again and as much as I REALLY wanted to keep the close up on Luke as he says “but this is your fight” I’m gonna ditch it on my next pass and just change the timing on Rey’s close up. That way I can tighten up the audio and seamlessly go into her standing up as if the say “I don’t have the way finder” as her last excuse to be negative. Luke gives her one more reassuring smile and says “You have everything you need”. The emotion seems perfect running it that way.
I’ll see if I can do another pass tomorrow…
Is Nev finished with the colour correction of this scene or is someone else picking up the gauntlet?
Yeah, I was just focusing on the audio for that clip. I ran out of time to properly sync the visual. I’ll take another run at it when I get time.

I agree with ThisIsCreation. Great job, MR! I think the line and pacing feels right, but the cutting back and forth to Luke is a bit abrupt. The second cut to Luke feels like it’s clearly the same camera move as the first. Can you hold on Rey instead of cutting back for “This is your fight”? I think it’s better to see Rey for this line, anyway, so we can see he thinking it over.

I totally agree. I obsess over little things like this but I ran out of time today. I really wanted to keep on Luke as he says “This is your fight” but we’d have to stay on Rey too long if I removed it and her expression doesn’t change to suit the dialogue. I think there is a tweak to be had in this clip though. I’ll take another stab at it when I can.

Jarbear, Exactly! Rather than holding the audience hand and explaining every step of the way, we actually get an “Oh Yeah!” Moment when Rey uses Leias Saber this way.

I didn’t like the line “You’ll take both Sabers to Exagol” so I’ve made it a little more personal to Rey’s quest, and setting up the moment all the force ghosts are with her for the final battle.
I never really understood force ghosts. The line “strike me down and I will be more powerful…” doesn’t really become anything. Force ghosts don’t really do much other than mentor. Yoda is the only one who interacts with the real world by burning the tree. Luke can’t even remove Leia’s Saber from the wall.
I feel the “this is your fight” is a line to give Rey a realisation that she’s the only one with enough power in the real world “the last jedi” to take on Palpatine. I’ve reused this line just as the force ghosts appear later to show this is Rey’s fight but they have her back when it comes to her having the strength to force push the final lightning blow, I’ve also rearranged the ghost scene so Luke sticks around to protect Rey from the blast after Palp dies.
Awwwww! I wish I had my computers. Basically, I think it would work by taking out the “you’ll take both Saber to Exagol” and replace it with “We’ll always be with you”. Then move the “but this is your fight” after that line. It’ll take some work shifting the clip arrangement but that’ll work in many ways.
I agree. There’s a lot of really awkward exposition in that scene after the flashback. It’s why I liked Nevs “You have everything you need…” cut.
This movie is the worst at treating the audience like idiots and constantly giving the “incase you’re not following this simple storyline here’s a reminder” dialogue.
