Seeing as I cut a lot of Kylo in Snokes thrown room in TLJ I was playing with the idea of rotoing that footage and having Kylo enter Vaders castle to find the wayfinder chest using interior shots from Rogue One. He’ll kneel down before removing his helmet so what could be say?
Sounds like everyone is on the same page. I’ve spent most of today arguing with people about 4:3 and 16:9. Would love to see a letterbox version.
I’d definately wanna change the score in a few places. Didn’t think it contributed to the scenes at all.
I couldn’t get through the 2017 theatrical cut but I will revisit it now and see if it’s worth saving anything.
EDIT: Did anyone get the “1000 generations live in you now” via with the Superman scene? Who ripped who off first?
Wouldn’t it make more sense to have Rey wearing dark clothes throughout the film, then end on her wearing white?
By all means start now! I’m sure the time/work needed to do this will only shave a few years of your life. 😉
The thing about adding the dialogue; do we have audio available to make those changes possible.
- oh and as far as Finn’s force story is concerned, i think leaving it intact in the way it was in V1 is the way to go, i wouldn’t like to remove it completely, because lets say in the future they make a new movie and finn all of a sudden is using the force, it would seem odd continuity wise.
I very much doubt Disney will continue this storyline. A majority of actors have said they won’t return and each movie lost more and more revenue as time went on. As much as Finn being force sensitive would’ve/should’ve been an awesome payoff at the end I’m much happier removing any sign of his sensitivity. Poe also shows some signs in TLJ which didn’t go anywhere. TROS felt lost from the start, IMO.
If we’re throwing in things to consider that the community might be able to help with (ideas that have been thrown around before here and elsewhere)…
- Add a line for Leia after saying “no” to Rey going on the mission. Something like “You’re not ready.” Scene feels a little awkward.
- Add Finn saying to Jannah “We all have to fight” so it seems like he had some influence on her decision to join the resistance (paying forward his TLJ arc).
- Change Luke’s line to “Leia sensed the BIRTH of her son,” which seems more fitting.
- Give Rey a different outfit in the final scene, either all black or grey, or partially black or grey.
- Recolor the saber burial cloth to be black and add a hole so it appears to be Ben’s sweater, so she’s burying things that belong to all three ghosts.
100% down with these additions, especially the last two.
To be fair, the whole thing is an error, regardless of rationalizing it … but, can be overlooked since there isn’t much one can do.
Although it was a visually interesting thing with the TIE vs Rey, it would have been better if it wasn’t that to avoid the plot hole on JJ’s part. So many overlooked things in this movie. Oye.
Yes there Is! You remove the epic but flawed tie backflip and have it that Kylo is just closing in on them while remaining in the ship, thus eliminating the tug o war and having Rey “kill chewie” out of fear rather than anger.

It just seems weird that all other supreme leaders including Kylo had prototype ships until this one bounces back. It just feels like another huge continuety error than anything else. Just to get the trailer shot.

I agree with the Porg shot, I even gave the TLJ clip as reference when it first came up. I’ve tried using colour change swatches, overlays and white balance but I can’t seem to remove the white highlights.

Maybe I’ll just cut it entirely for a personal edit of the film.
Once I’m properly set up and have some time I’ll try to set up a mask or colour overlay just for those highlights and see if it helps.
JEDIT: Or I could Roto out Chewie/Roasted Porg from the TLJ shot and use that?
Well, it’s been amazing to join this community at the peak of this edit and find so many like-minded people that ponder over the smallest details. It’s a grand achievement within itself.

Drama wise that sounds great but I’m not sure how that would make Pasana more distinct from all the other sand planets? I think people were thinking more along the lines of changing the sand colour.

Hal, The second island transition sound is very jumbled by the fade-out in my headphones. You may wanna extend the first part and fade-out just before the note comes in after Rey says “I won’t let it happen”? The added Luke line also sounds very bass-heavy compared to the next line. Did you use the new EQ audio by ThisIsCreation?

I’m losing track of threads but were there talks on here about the early duel between Rey and Kylo on the ship? I was just wondering if anyone fancied tackling the continuity error of the Sith Dagger disappearing for the last shot?

I don’t think so, I had to lower the gain by -14 or something but it still stood out way more than the original.

The line “A thousand generations…” and “you’ll take two Sabers…” always bugged me. I wanted to find a way of removing them both but this worked out so well it actually compliments the 1000 generation line and sets up the force ghosts for later. Whoop WHoop!

I have changed this whole sequence so I’m not sure how close this clip is to the original anymore. I’m sure others can just trim the parts out that suit.
That almost never works without it being noticable. The good part about this clip is that 3/4 of it Rey is virtually still, it’s just bring up from 53% to 100% without it looking unnatural. Keyframes are weird when it comes to speed. They split rather than an in and out point.
