Zion said:One problem I noticed: when I mount the image file and try to play it in PowerDVD 9, it doesn't play the DVD correctly. It basically just plays the titles one by one.
No such issues noted here (think I mounted the image with D-tools and played it with PowerDVD 7).
Also, the burned copy works OK on my standalone.
Welcome to the off topic forum, where obscure and basically useless threads are happily accepted.

Hmm, I've observed that when there's a problem with just ESB, usually the solution is to completely remove the subtitles section as there are none for it. I know that's worked for myself and atleast a couple others.
In line 60, should the "Nop()" be replaced with a "last"?

While the series is much improved if T3 and T4 never happened, it's not perfect unless T2 also never happened.

With a PCM track, there is no way for the receiver to know if the audio contains matrixed surround information (i.e. Dolby Surround) or is just plain stereo. You need to press the button yourself.
A Dolby Digital (AC3) stream can carry a flag to indicate the format of 2/0 encoded programs. Decoders can use this to drive a Dolby Surround indicator, or it can be used to automatically control the Dolby Surround Pro Logic decoder. Decoders may ignore and/or override this flag, so the user has final control over the stereo or Dolby Surround listening modes.
hairy_hen said:The 2.1 channel format I used is unusual and apparently doesn't play nicely with some setups...
From Dolby's encoding guidelines:
Use of the LFE channel is optional with multichannel programs, but is not
available for mono, stereo, or surround-encoded programs.
This is probably why 2.1 is proving to be problematic. To be honest, I'm surprised your encoder didn't throw up a warning when you selected this channel configuration.
hairy_hen said:I'm not sure, when altering the speed for PAL playback, if it's better to do it analogue-style and let the pitch shift upwards, or keep it the same. Probably depends a lot on the quality of what you use to change the speed. Maybe someone more knowledgeable could chime in about that, along with what the best conversion tool to use would be.
A simple "speed-up" (which is basically resampling) is safer.
The more complex pitch-correction algorithms can lead to digital "stepping" artefacts. Someone once suggested Serato Pitch 'n Time was capable of achieving "transparent" results for pitch correction - though it's not much use to the casual user who doesn't have Protools.

Old (The Starkiller) version appears to have been IVTCed to 23.976fps, however the decimation is wrong which leads to dupe frames and jerky motion.

We touched on this a while ago, see posts 59 and 60.
I've been following this thread, and I must say I find you a fascinating character (I mean that in a good way).
Your dedication to promoting this project is outstanding. I was amused to hear you'd sent copies of the DVD to Microsoft and Lucasfilm!
I found the 1-CD AVI rip on Demonoid; I don't expect the quality is up to much - squeezing nearly three and a half hours down to that size - but if it helps get more people interested in the project then it's all good.
Trailer option 2 would be better IMO.
Look up "Restream" - I think it should be able to change the aspect ratio in the MPEG2 headers for you, so you will not have to re-encode.
CMG, you have a copy of the DVD that The Starkiller made? Can you post example screenshots and/or clips that demonstrate the improvement when using a correct IVTC over a generic deinterlacer?
I'd be interested in any screenshots or a short clip to see how the quality compares with the source I had. You say there are no dropouts in your version?
BTW the restored mono mix is available to download - see this thread.
Because he's an attention-seeking retard.
Are you sure the VHS you have is the rare "widescreen" bootleg with the Dolby stereo mix, and not the more common "fullscreen" bootleg with the mono mix?
I would not recomend Besweet - it uses ac3enc for the re-encoding which is known to be buggy and gives poor quality results. If your going to alter the audio, extract the channels to PCM, speed up, then use Aften to re-encode.
To be honest though, it would be preferable to convert the video to NTSC.
The 1st filename is the same (mthr-swtc1.avi). NFO is not included. Get it here.
I notice something called "SWANH_Widescreen_Bootleg" posted in a.b.sw.
Size looks to be equivalent to a 2xCD AVI, but I haven't checked to see if this is the same video that I posted or something new.
The same person has also posted the fullscreen version by The Starkiller.
Yes eBay sellers are full of crap.
Please don't post any links.
Bump after thread merge.
According to the ot.com fanedits wiki, 19 January 2008 was the date the Xvid version was released.
The DVD5 versions (PAL, NTSC repack & Purist Edition) were released 1 March 2008. DVD9s came out on 12 May 2008.
