STAR WARS - Special Widescreen Edition (Technidisc) (Released)

Here's a test sample I did before I finished this DVD with anti-aliasing applied: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GKO0OGP0

I just wanted to show you the trouble I was faced with regarding the aliasing and why I ultimately decided to go unfiltered.

Not sure if I've asked this before, but what filter did you use to remove the aliasing?

Star Wars : 'Tantive's Orange Items' Thread & other unintended objects
Time

Can I introduce you to these three guys:

I'm talking about the dark spot of dirt above Luke's head, and two bright flecks between the twin suns. These appear on the GOUT DVD on the penultimate frame before the scene change.

The same pattern appears on the SWE technidisc pressing:

But they do not appear on the various transfers of the 1995 French THX LD (this is from the Moth3r transfer):

I don't believe that their removal is due to DVNR, as the pattern of dirt spots that appear on the following frame matches the GOUT/DC.

Time lapse video of a Star Wars movie marathon that my friends held the other day where all of the films were ranked by the guests on a scale of 1-10.

Interesting!

Did they watch the "GOUT" DVDs of the original trilogy or one of the customisations or recreations from here?

I see the girl at the back liked The Phantom Menace so much that she would rather browse the internet...

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

Puggo - Jar Jar's Yoda said:

I suppose we all have our own definitions.  Here are mine:

A fan-edit is when someone re-edits a film in an effort to improve on it by making changes, or combining films in various ways to make new films that didn't previously exist.  Adywan's SW Revisited and the Phantom Edit are examples of fan edits.

A preservation is when someone takes an existing film and digitizes it so that it can be made available for future generations, sometimes accompanied by cleaning or other fixes to counteract the deficiencies of the previous media. DJ's trilogy and the Puggo Grande are examples of preservations.

A restoration is when someone rebuilds something that once existed but no longer exists or is no longer available, out of whatever can be found that is similar, or by rebuliding missing components. Harmy's is an example of a restoration, because the theatrical version doesn't exist in HD and he has tried to rebuild it out of other parts.

...

Pretty much the same definitions as used in our fan project list.

I just wanted to point out a quirk about the ESB DVD 5 despecialized version. So I guess this is for Chewtobacco...  For some reason, the pan and scan flag is set for the disk. So if your DVD player happens to be on the P&S auto setting, it'll zoom in on the picture.

Thanks, but that's what supposed to happen if your player is set to pan and scan; it won't come in to play for anyone whose player is set to 16:9.  I take it you have a 4:3 TV?  Just set your player to 4:3 not 4:3 P&S.  A number of commercial anamorphic widescreen discs have this setting.

Really? I've never seen a DVD that implements the 4:3 Pan & Scan option. A "centre of interest" offset is supposed to be encoded in the video stream, otherwise you just end up with the sides cropped and the scanned window stays centered (does not "pan").

It is much more common (and preferable, IMO) to author for only 4:3 letterboxed. Although the setting is pretty obsolete these days when most people have 16:9 TVs.

Help Wanted: Need a sound file...
Time

You could try in this thread:
http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Brashs-Star-Wars-Sound-Effects-Archive-A-collection-of-the-best-Star-Wars-sounds-for-use-in-Fan-Editing/topic/12364/

If it's the sound I'm thinking of - more of a "pssht" than a "whoosh" - I think it's quite "clean" where it appears in the film, no background music and not much background noise. You may get acceptable results just by ripping the DVD audio.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

And how many people who are buying the "BR" actually have a TV of sufficient size and resolution, or sit close enough, to appreciate what the BR has to offer, I wonder.

Please note the correct abbreviation for "Blu-ray Disc" is "BD".

If you type "BR" one more time I'm going to come over there and break your fingers.

Thank you.

Screenshots now up here.

The first thing I noticed was the contrast (white level); the DVD recorder seems to have captured this very low and I'd recommend upping the white level if you go for a second attempt.

Yes, I also noticed that when comparing with the actual LD after I was done, I've read about certain DVD recorders having that problem, or the other way around with to high white level.

On a second look it's not as low as I thought. A subtle tweak is all that's required:

Notes on Piracy - Please Read
Time

The originaltrilogy.com forum provides information about fan projects. Due to the underground nature of this scene, there are no downloads or torrent links posted here. You are expected to search out these projects yourself.

As far as this community is concerned, you should own the official retail release of a fan project's source material if it is possible to do so. Content producers deserve to be compensated, so if you don't own the retail release (if available), you have no business possessing a fan project. This applies equally to fan edits, custom DVDs and restoration projects.

If a project is sourced from an HDTV broadcast, and that movie has subsequently been made available for purchase on Blu-ray Disc, you are expected to own the BD before obtaining the fan project.

The forum administration do not have the resources to police this, so we will presume that all members comply with the above unless told otherwise. Any blatant contravention of the above may result in posts being removed, or in extreme cases member sanctions.

Definitive versions of the original trilogy unaltered!

I was wondering if the original trilogies are available on DVD/LD?

LD is an oboslete format and discs are only available second hand. Try eBay.

The 2006 DVD releases include George's Original Unaltered Trilogy (GOUT) on the "bonus discs". These DVDs are getting harder to find but are still available - check out this thread for advice on purchasing.

Not being a moderator or anything, just one of the bunch speaking his brains but most of this thread seems more about the zany antics of Anti-matter and his pals, rather than the Prologue project itself.

Wouldn't it make more sense to move it to the off topic zone where that can be laughed at and roasted with total freedom rather than having it bob up and down in one of the sedate 'creative zones' of the forums (you know, the one with the Worst Edit Ideas and The Ridiculous Edit in)?

I agree.

Here's the original thread, now unlocked.
