Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

The colours, and the level of detail (is there some sharpening going on along with the upscale?) you've managed to dig out of the murky GOUT video are really impressive.

It's a shame that there still residual DVNR smearing and aliasing that you can't do anything about. Please do share your script when you're done, because I'd be interested in testing it out on a capture of the PAL laserdisc.

To demonstrate how nice these colours are, I've added downscaled screenshots (1-3 only) to my comparison page here: http://moth3r.heliohost.org/dvd-screens.htm

Checked the disc. The interviews are contained in a 5-minute featurette, the disc also contains cast text biographies in the form of still images.

I don't think either of these extras appear on the later 3-disc Special Edition release, the VCI release is now out of print but you should be able to get it easily on eBay UK (the cover looks like this).

List of laserdiscs that contain video test patterns
Time

My enquiry to Pioneer's mail order retail spares company led me to this:
http://www.4ourhouse.co.uk/cgi-bin/product.pl?PID=3745307

I'd be cheaper getting it from Germany!

However, the same site had this:
http://www.4ourhouse.co.uk/cgi-bin/product.pl?PID=3434011

which is considerably cheaper than this:
http://www.4ourhouse.co.uk/cgi-bin/product.pl?PID=3442693

I think that last one must be pressed to order!

(£1 = 1.16 Euro = 1.49 USD)

Laserdisc players - screenshot comparison
Time

More images to show the poor horizontal resolution on the DMR-ES10's PAL captures. This is the PAL DVE played through composite:

Notice the 5.75 and 4.43Mhz grids are totally flat (blurred). Here is the same pattern, same player except using the s-video output:

poita, is your ES10 a PAL version? If so do you see the same issue or is it just mine?

HAPPY 10TH ANNIVERSARY OT.COM!!!!!!!!!!!!!(was: When is/was the OT.com 10th anniversary?)

The 10th Anniversary depends on what you consider our go-live date.

This teaser went live in June 2002:

The original petition and forum went live on March 10, 2003:
http://www.originaltrilogy.com/" target="_blank" title="web.archive.org/web/20030329102201/http://www.originaltrilogy.com/">http://web.archive.org/web/20030329102201/http://www.originaltrilogy.com/

My forum join date is a couple weeks prior to that because I installed and tested the old software before the launch.

I'd say the 10th anniversary is tomorrow.

Oldest capture of the forum here:
http://web.archive.org/web/20030326013254/http://www.originaltrilogy.com/forum/index.cfm

Some zero-day members (join date 10 March 2003) were PSYCHO_DAYVBosskmotti_soL and Luke Skywalker.

There don't seem to be any of the old threads on the new software, I seem to remember there was a loss of data around 2005.

As requested, here are the test patterns from the Pioneer GGV1069 reference disc. Captured with a Pioneer HLD-X9 via an Intensity Extreme.

That's similar to the Indian Head pattern that appears on A Video Standard. It's useful for checking sharpness, i.e. the vertical black lines under 7 5 3 1 should not have a white halo.

Interesting to see that the part of the multiburst above the centre circle is showing a small amount of residual "reflection" similar to the effect I saw with the Test Card G on the D925.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? - uncensored HDTV airing(s) (Released)
Time

I'm uncomfortable with talk of rips of the new BD in this thread (and it's against forum rules to discuss "warez") so let's just say the Bluray is censored.

Also, it strikes me that there is no definitive list of changes available anywhere. The original story about the "naughty" frames appeared in Variety in 1994, but only mentioned Baby Herman's finger and Jessica Rabbit's lack of underwear (and the Eisner phone number rumour).

I was considering doing something similar to this project by none, comparing the French HDTV version against a censored rip. Not sure how successful it will be, as the images don't line up perfectly, and the French version is softer and has more muted colours.

Dear Americans,

Having just watched "Wreck-It Ralph", I was wondering if you have arcades over there that contain a combination of classic games alongside modern machines, like the fictional Litwak's arcade shown in the film?

If so, I'm jealous. All our arcades here in the UK only have dancing, driving or shooting games; you can't seem to find "old-school" joystick games any more.
