The future of OT.com - UPDATE: Please donate!
Time

Really sad to hear Jay. I haven’t been on the website for years now. But every now and then I want to check back to see how our original cause is holding up. 😃

This place was my first internet community I decided to become a part of. I wanted to share my love of Star Wars with fellow like minded individuals. People whom I could talk passionately with about not just Star Wars but all film. I had such a great time while I was a member here.

At the time I was in college. I wrote my local newspaper about the website and they trusted me enough to write a full page article promoting the website and it’s purpose. My passion for what we were trying to achieve clearly made me the ideal candidate. I was so proud to be championing a cause that many of us felt so strongly for. If not for you, I never would have wrote that article, nor found my voice.

I now work at that same college I attended and married my high school sweetheart that sat next to me for days helping me edit that article for the newspaper. The more things change, the more they stay the same right? 😉

Thank you Jay for everything you’ve done here. I have slowly watched your website morph into something so crucial for our passion of film. It is an extraordinary thing that I was glad to be a part of for many years. Best of luck to those who choose to carry on the originltrilogy.com legacy. I wish you all the best on your journey.

Jay, enjoy your retirement. You deserve it!

Take care my friend. 😃

… Wait… Star Wars has been released in 4k??? WHERE THE HELL HAVE I BEEN ALL THESE YEARS!!!

See you in the forums everyone.

since the majority of your replys were nothing more than fluff i will pick apart the two major ones.

Wow, interesting ethic. Now you are becoming even more interesting to me.

So, in your approach to the world, would a person who slaughters poultry for human consumption be as equally evil as a Nazi who had supported and committed genocide in WW2? I’m very curious.

you must be a highschool student to come up with a statement like this.
lol
tell me genius, what do they use seals for mainly?
human consumption?
i think not.

and the reason why the Nazi's committed genocide in the first place?
this has what to do with seals?

thanks for comparing apples and shovels idiot.

i guess you figured it would have made you seem more cool to post a statement like you did and run off like a coward.

Hmm, well, just what you would like have explained about me? I’m willing to assist.

I’d think it would be obvious that a man, trying to make a living, and probably trying support a family, is of more value than a baby seal. Call me crazy, but I didn’t know I actually needed to say that. Do you feel better now that I have made this opinion of mine clear?

And as for running off as a "coward," perhaps I am one, but I am unaware of how my earlier post in this thread speaks to that. Perhaps you can explain that to me? You know, being the brave, wonderful individual that you are, I’m sure you’ll calmly explain to me all of your clearly rational thoughts.

As for trying to sound “cool,” I’m not sure what you mean by that. If you refer to the brief nature of my post, I did not want to detract from the lighthearted feeling of this thread by initiating a boring discussion within it. I simply thought that expressing my shock over your lack of ethical sense would have been sufficient. Though, I suppose when looking back, I should have anticipated your response.

perhaps maybe this man should try actually doing something productive with that grade 12 education he got. but i see why you feel it necessary to stick up for people with your level of knowledge.

hey if your all about animal slaughter for pointless purposes other than monetary reasons, so be it. but maybe you should use your hands like the animals do. go try that with a bear and let me know how it works out.

in the meantime ill order one Tiptup fur coat.

Who here thinks the above picture is funny?

that picture is so funny that i hope his parents get cancer, his wife raped and his children die of some painful flesh eating disease.
and i hope he gets to watch them all die in front of his very eyes.

Over a baby seal? You have very interesting priorities.

did i stutter?

but i suppose your right, my priorities are a bit out of whack.
this man SHOULD die after witnessing his entire family and friends come to their demise.
but it should be something slow and painful.
like getting their skull busted open by a fuckin seal club.

thanks for bringing that up my friend.

lol wow i love some of these responses. some great flicks mentioned that i've never thought about.

oh ya and about my girlfriend and the movies...
this is a girl who loved Casino and The Lord of the Rings (extended cut) movies...
length, language or gore wont bother her that much..

its things like aliens or ghosts that she doesnt like at all. she will just not watch the movie at all.

as for some movies that we've already seen are Shawshank, Clockwork Orange, Memento, Eraserhead, Tremors, 2001: A Space Odessy, Phantom of the Opera.

we tend to really enjoy bio pics or movies based on true stories.
also anything along the line of Memento, Mulholland Drive, or Lost in Translation. (if that helps)

so far some of the movies on the list are:

Apocolypse Now
Blade Runner
Dune
American Psycho
Deer Hunter
The Doors
Fargo
Constantine
Big Lebowski

maybe those will give you a better idea of what im looking at.

keep the suggestions coming though. no such thing as a wrong one!

Movie Help Needed
Time
okay so im gonna make this short. my girlfriend and I are having a movie marathon this coming weekend for my birthday and im allowed to pick whatever 3 movies i want.

so what movies would you suggest?

restrictions!!!
1) no comedies!! unless they're something refreshing. I dont want any Wedding Crashers or Ben Stiller kind of movies. they're a waste of time.

2) no horror movies or movies with aliens in them! anything a girl would find scary (request of the girlfriend)

and try and refrain from the typical star wars or lord of the rings ones.

also I was interested in giving Dune a watch. I've heard a ton of good things about it.
But while talking with a guy at work, he said that there are many versions of the film. one of them being around 8 hours long. Is this true?
If so which version would you suggest.

GIVE ME A MOVIE THAT WILL EITHER BLOW MY MIND OR GIVE ME SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT!

something interesting and different.
okay that is all.

cant wait to hear some suggestions.

Pan's Labyrinth
Time
was just curious as to who had seen this movie here.
i know many of us are film buffs but ive heard very little around the community about this.

I just saw it the other night myself and fell in love with it. There is no doubt in my mind that its been my favorite film of 2006.

For those who had seen the movie, i pose a question to you.

[SPOILER ALERT!!!!]

what is your opinion on the faun, book and fairies? were they all just in her imagination or were they a part of reality?
i was of the belief that they were in her head at first until my brother pointed out the fact that they must have been a part of reality for the simple fact that the root was found under the bed and had a significant effect when burnt, as well as the fact that the bleeding book told the future of her mother's complications at birth (which we then see when she goes outside to find her mother bleeding).

however it doesnt explain the fact that the captain cannot see the faun at the end of the movie. or why the little girl is dead at the end and not in her kingdom reigning as princess.

any thoughts perhaps?

[END OF SPOILER!!!!]

I must say that anyone who wants to see a truely beautiful movie must check this out. Of course its not suitable for a younger audience and if your squimish during scenes with violence or mutilation you may not find it your cup of tea. But in the end i think it must be experienced by all.

FYI, its subtitled.

here's the trailer for those who are interested.

I guess it is kind of nice to say goodbye rather than just disappearing and not ever posting again. But every single goodbey thread I have ever read on this site give a million reasons why they are leaving and how awfully bad their feeling got hurt.

An ideal goodbye letter would be something like:

"Alright guys I am moving on. I had a good time here, but it is time I move on"
or
"I don't feel like I get along very well with some members of this community, I have had a good time here for the most part. But I think it is time I move on"

If somebody ever posted something like that, I would not find it annoying at all. But every single good bye thread seems like it is either their way of giving the finger as they drive off, or it is them wanting to get attention and inform the whole community that all their troubles in life are due to us and that they will be accepting apologies.

I am surpirsed Zig's post didn't say he would stay if at least 70 of us would sign a petition asking him not to leave. In a way I am sorry to see him go, he was pretty funny sometimes. Things like the petition to get paint wars going again was fantastic. Not to mention Paint Wars was kind of interesting and made even more so by his flakey nature of abandoning it and returing to it constantly.

i completely agree!!
this man speaks the truth.

WHAT?! Why in the world are you saying yay?? This person left because they were feeling insulted! Probably from people like you! WTH. And you're a forum moderator? Or is that some name you made up?

i hope your next.

Yay! \o/

Is that aimed at Moth3r or StarTrooper?

I am sorry Zig feels he has to leave, but the offending incendent he mention happened about two months ago. His point in leaving seems to be more about our lack of interest in video games and extreme interest in movies.

Whatever the reason, these goodbye threads get annoying. Seems like we get one a month, then whoever posts them always comes back again, or takes years to leave. It is very often a cry for attention. I can see why Moth3r responded as he did. But perhaps it is not the best exhibit of behavior for a moderator. Feels like the moderator kind of gave up on this place after the rift, back when everybody felt that pissing on the mods was the cool thing to do. Every other post was a complaint at the mods for the way they handled the FE situation. Personally I think their behavior in that situation was fair enough, but since that time I rarely see them post at all, where as it felt like they were fairly active members of this community before that.

that was for starshiptrooper.
i dont see why people have to get so bent out of shape when someone decides to leave. the majority of the time i think they just want us all to say.... "NOOOO, don't go! your going to be missed, and your such a great part of this community." Well if people on this forum hurt your feelings then by all means i encourage you to leave. If this place isnt your cup of tea then find some other place that is.

Nobody should be forced to stay. Therefore stop getting angry when people decide to leave.

To those who bought the Limited Edition Lord of the Rings DVDs...
Time
i think there are a couple of scenes that Jackson shouldn't have taken out of the films in particular though.

one of my favorite being the exchange between Boromir and his father concerning the ring as well as Boromir's brother Faramir.
it showed Boromir in a much different light and made him seem like less of an ass. Plus it sheds a bit more light on Faramir and explains why he does what he does to Frodo.

of course you have to see it for yourself. but its such a shame that it wasnt included on the theatrical.
