Info & Help: looking for... the Australian version of Crocodile Dundee?
Time

MathUser said:

I've heard it talked about but never posted online. The Australian version of Crocodile dundee has more australian slang and extra scenes. But it's never been posted online. My searches for it show alot of people asking for a download of it. So was the special Aussie version of the movie released in theaters only, that's why there's no upload of it? Even if it were released on VHS that would be good enough for me.

It's out on DVD (Region 4 - PAL). Fairly easy to find on ebay.com.au and relatively cheap if you can find someone who will ship overseas.

Well TServo's post was pretty much spot on, and would answer any questions that followers of this project may have about the mono mix.

However the three or four posts earlier on this page that give inaccurate information from unreliable sources are only going to perpetuate confusion. I was therefore linked to a thread where this has already been discussed and debunked.

Answers to questions about the other sound mixes on Harmy's release may be found here.

But my point is, the original 70mm Dolby 6-track (and Dolby Stereo) mixes  had only a mono surround channel - so channel separation in the rears is not authentic.

But I thought I had read somewhere that Pro-logic II was designed to reproduce in the home the acoustic qualities that a mono surround channel would have in the cinema.

I watched Harmy's Despecialized V2.5 with the latest version of the 70mm recreation. My sound system (nothing fancy, just a basic Home Cinema in a Box) can't handle DTS-HD so I only listened to the DTS core.

That said, I think I noticed an improvement in some scenes compared to the previous version on V2.1 (or maybe it was my imagination, or the placebo effect).

Did you mention somewhere that Prologic II decoding is designed to match what a Dolby Stereo track would actually sound like in a theatre?

Love the dynamic range on this, especially the whole section from Ben's death to the falcon escaping.

If there is clipping in the mono track, it certainly wasn't caused by me.  It looks like a very mild limiter was used to prevent it from exceeding digital maximum, but perhaps it didn't fully prevent it on every single sample.  In any case, it's so brief that some software may not even report it as clipping to begin with, and anyone who says they can hear it is probably a liar.

To be clear, are you talking about the original Belbucus restored mono here?

Thought this guide may be useful to others:

I did notice a couple of points I'd like to ask about if you ever decide to do a V3.0, but I don't want to take anything away from what you've achieved here. Great work!

How to play Despecialized Edition V2.5 on a PS3 if you don't have a BD burner
Time

This worked for me, thought others might benefit if I shared.

You will need:

  • Harmy's Star Wars Despecialized Edition v2.5 (18GB MKV)
  • A PS3
  • A portable or external USB hard drive, FAT32 formatted (a USB flash drive should also work, if it's big enough)
  • MKVExtractGUI-2
  • tsMuxeR
  • AVCHDMe (or AVCHD Manager)

1. Extract the raw streams (in this example I've only used two audio tracks):

2. Open tsMuxeR and add the files you've just extracted, select option "AVCHD disc":

3. Go to the Split & Cut tab, and select Split by size every 4GB:

4. Go to the Blu-ray tab, and select "Custom chapter list".

Copy and paste the following text into the chapters box:

00:00:00.000

00:00:21.188

00:01:54.617

00:04:53.335

00:07:28.828

00:08:55.217

00:11:21.701

00:15:23.618

00:19:19.862

00:23:13.302

00:25:12.225

00:27:25.196

00:28:52.319

00:32:13.827

00:34:32.637

00:36:33.762

00:38:45.265

00:41:20.893

00:42:10.444

00:43:59.756

00:47:00.743

01:00:41.791

01:03:47.450

01:05:52.946

01:10:03.338

01:11:43.641

01:14:44.795

01:16:40.414

01:19:00.393

01:22:31.277

01:24:33.103

01:27:27.250

01:31:19.189

01:34:10.999

01:35:37.789

01:37:08.182

01:38:55.493

01:40:08.402

01:42:07.892

01:46:48.148

01:52:24.195

01:54:52.648

01:55:34.191

01:57:19.800

Now click start.

5. When it's done, create a folder named AVCHD on the root of your portable drive. Copy the BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders created by tsMuxeR into this folder.

6. Run AVCHDme on the folder to convert all filenames to PS3-compatible 8.3 style.

7. Plug the drive into your PS3 and enjoy!

Info: AviSynth and VirtualDub - speed improvement
Time

_,,,^..^,,,_ said:

So, it seems that AviSynth and/or VirtualDub DO USE GPU power too, or the old GPU simply slowed down the CPU speed?

AviSynth does not natively use the GPU. However there are a handful of plug-in filters that do, e.g. DGDecNV runs on the GPU of Nvidia graphics cards that support CUDA video decoding, and those source filters that use the DirectShow framework (DGAVCDecDI, DirectShowSource and DSS2) may use hardware accelerated decoding (dependent on filter merit, I imagine). And there is also FFT3dGPU which is a filter used for denoising/sharpening.

So if your script uses any of those it may benefit from an upgraded graphics card.

I have requested a myspleen invite many times over the years but never received one. So usenet will be my only hope and I know I'm not alone. I'm patient and sure it will show up over the next few weeks. Huge Thanks in advance to the future usenet poster.

It is currently upping to usenet.

Thanks - but which group? Can't see it in a.b.starwars.

I was wondering the same thing.  I also tried general usenet search engines but to no avail.

Me too - a search just turned up the old versions.

And a Japanese porn star named Harumi.
