Help Wanted: PAL/NTSC hybrid transfer query
Time
If I myself could cap LD to DVD in any format, I'd prolly aspect-correct PAL LB -> NTSC Anamorphic.

Increase in vertical res: 1.2x
Target vertical res: 352 (approx.)
NTSC Source vertical res: 272 (approx.)
PAL Source vertical res32.: 326 (approx.)
Needed vertical scaling when converting to NTSC/A: 10.43% (approx.)
Needed vertical scaling if sourcing from NTSC: 32.35% (approx.)

Even though you'd still need to resize, the scaling wouldn't be as drastic. If your source image actually *had* 326 scanlines... all the better!

Idea, & Help: looking for... HBO In Space?!
Time

This came up in another thread and I’m desperate to see this in good quality again. From mielr’s rips of Emmet Otter (I still have to mail that out >_> I salvaged a good quality copy of the actual space part, but I have yet to find the REST of the video in good quality.

An interesting alternate project I’ve thought of, was to create a new version of it, shot for shot (with a little more motion to the extras and the traffic), in CG, with a re-sequenced score. Not quite the same, but a bit of an update. Everything old is new again! (I don’t have any tools to do THIS.)

The Vaultbreakers Collection - Disney Preservations
Time
Hm. I'm downloading (from a friend who got it from Japanese p2p) a Japanese DVD edition of AristoCats (entitled there, Oshare Cat). It's quite obviously 4:3. The Buena Vista bumper is replaced by the blue castle bumper, but I can't see anything else. The title seems (so far at least) to use the English credits. Considering it's recent enough to have the "half ring" logo...

EDIT: More detail...

Video format: NTSC, Fullscreen, Progressive (720x480x23.976/4:3)
Audio: 2.0 English (384 kbps), 2.0 Japanese (384 kbps)
Subtitles: Japanese, English
Title cards/Credits are in English
Menus are in Japanese

Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas (Complete) - (Released)
Time
Depending on the player. (To even be watchable on my PC I have to convert it to 30 fps progressive in realtime. This is why all my AVIs are progressive. But for a TV, it's prolly best to leave it alone, if it's 30 fps interlaced.)

I decided it was best not to re-encode at all. The DVDISO I have prepared contains the exact footage which mielr provided me - just cut together to the best of my ability from the two different sources.

I'm going to burn it off once I can stop the torrent I'm seeding now, and right after that I'll put up this torrent. (And since I coadmin a friend's server, I'm prolly going to use it to give the torrent a little kick.)
