"Blue Water" Dragon Ball Z? (* unfinished project *)

Again, full eps are my sample clips, but consider the sheer size of the project :P

This is episode 144 "Cell Is CompleteThe Last Defense". The audio quality leaves much to be desired (seems to be a 10-year-old VHS, judging by the "NEW!" watermarks occasionally dangling off the CN logo). I am not seeing any other source, not even with Dutch subs...

Decided to take a whack at 144 (The Last Defense) for something different. I'll prolly have that one up later tonight or tomorrow.

The audio quality is bad... the video quality worse. I get the feeling the source was a well-played EP tape. The presence of a "NEW!" watermark under the Cartoon Network logo at times suggests that this was taped the first time it aired in the UK. (It's almost certainly a UK airing - it's PAL and has no hardsubs, which for this dub means either UK or Ireland.)

I'm in the US. The most I could prolly make out of the R4s is title cards... although someone is uploading the original batch of R1s, and someone else is uploading the R2s, so mostly I'm just waiting around. I have managed to acquire the one Trunks disc I need, as well as 3 others.

The dub on the R4s is the same dub as the R1s - unfortunately. So for audio, it really won't help. And for video, it won't really help either - although another person is working on a version from the PAL DVDs - I would rather work from NTSC.

I may yet be able to do one episode from the current batch, depending on if I am right about it being on the discs I have already managed to source - "The Last Defense", #144/159. Without title card patches I can do a few more; my R2 source is up to 204/219 ("Energy Drain") but a lot of those episodes are missing recaps and previews, and several are even incomplete for the main episode.

The eps which I can complete, with or without title card replacements or paintovers, using Saban-relative ep numbers (i.e., 108 not 123): 108-112, 114, 144, 147, 151-152, 154, 156, 187, 189, 192-194.

When more DVD source arrives I can also complete likewise: 221, 226-227, 229-230, 232-248, 250-254, 256-268.

The following episodes are missing portions of the episode themselves:

145/160 Cell is Complete
175/190 The Horror Won't End
176/191 Save the World
177/192 Goku's Noble Decision
183/198 Final Round
184/199 Goku vs. Pikkon
185/200 Gohan Goes to High School
186/201 I Am Saiyaman
188/203 Rescue Videl
190/205 I'll Fight Too!
197/212 Best of the Boys
204/219 Energy Drain
223/238 Evil Lives On
224/239 Find the Dragon Balls
227/242 Learn to Fuse (small gap between pieces of the episode)

Unfortunately, there seems to be no source better than what has been unearthed already at Cartoon-World's forums (which has yielded several complete episodes already that have been elusive).

I have the proper eyecatch for episodes 185/200 and onward (it's the Japanese one with new BGM).

Duh, i do know that but you said "MPEG4 is all the rage" which releases using the mp4 container use level 2 (divx/vxid) apart from online trailers at HD for quicktime but releases using x264/h264 mpeg4 level 10 usually use the mkv /ts contaiers.

I don't work within the scene but most of my own releases as of late have been x264/faac inside the MP4 container.

Although I have seen xvid-type mpeg-4 in MP4 files, usually I only see that in AVI files.

Nice work so far. Perhaps the best eventual output would be single episode avis/mp4s? DVDs covering 169 episodes is a lot of work for yourself. Congrats on finding the credit font most of all because I know how satisfying it can be to track down that typeface you've been searching an age to find.

I'm more keen to do this with the 'Blue Water' GT dub as I used to have an RM/RMVB set of all 64 eps featuring that dub... and lost them in a hard drive crash. DBGT was one of the first anime that I watched subbed and I remember being thrilled to be able to watch a dubbed version that I stumbled across online.

DVDs aren't that much more work than mp4s, but I'll probably do both.

I'll periodically upload a few (but not all) episodes as sample clips, before I do the mass uploading on torrent for larger portions.

I think there's people collecting the Blue Water GT as well. I might try that too, I know there's WMVs/AVIs/MPGs of it floating around. I no longer have the ISOs for it but that's fixable (and I do still have good rips of the whole series).

I've uploaded a beta "Dragon Box source" 108 (first episode of this dub).

Uploading a couple not-quite-finished episodes as sample footage will give a general idea where I'm going, for when I try to make DVDs with the *finished* episodes later.

Keep in mind the scope of this project... [b]169 episodes[/i]... over 50 hours of footage which needs to be rebuilt over the various DVD sources for video and TV rips for audio. It's a bit more intensive, I think, than doing movies, although not being a fan edit it doesn't take nearly the effort of something like Adywan's work.

The goal is DVDs 5-per, but I will periodically upload MP4s as well. The MP4s may be missing "paint" or even proper title cards but will otherwise be complete down to the closing logo bumper. (I have several episodes with the bumper. The copy on the MP4, however, is derived from a DVD released by Bridge in the Netherlands.)

On this MP4 you can see the completed opening and closing. The title cards, taken from the Funimation singles (Trunks-2), are TV-authentic. 3 quick shots in the ED and two shots in the OP are also from the Funi singles. The remainder is taken from R2 DVDs (Dragon Box). The end credits may be slightly off in color and size; the text is accurate, and I fixed a spelling error ("Dissuke Nishio" is corrected to "Daisuke Nishio"). As mentioned above, the episode is missing the "paint" (which in this case means the removal of Briefs' cigarette has not been done). I may consider also for the final version adding two pairs of fades - one at the beginning of the recap, and one at the end of the episode (next ep preview) - to hide small gaps in the audio.

Again, this is the Canadian-produced dub, broadcast but never released to home video. As far as I am aware, all the voice actors except for Bulma's are the same as they were in the Saban dub with Maggie Blue O'Hara taking Bulma's role (iirc, she also played Bulma in the initial Funimation dub, by BLT Productions, of Dragon Ball). Peter Kelamis is Goku. Brian "OVER 9000!" Drummond is Vegeta. Scott McNeil is Piccolo. Et cetera. And the narrator doesn't sound like he's trying to force an impression of Don LaFontaine. Certain music is apparently lifted from two other series which Ocean Group recorded.

One thing I observed: The Funi single of this ep is slightly zoomed in. You do get a little more picture from the Dragon Box.

I plan on working to get a good one soon. I might go with another dell, or I may just buy some better parts. I don't want a box full of shit I will replace anyway.

That's all I consider my PCs to be in the first place... I start with something, then I upgrade it piecemeal (as I did with my last computer...an eMachines).

My current computer is homebuilt.

R2s have presented themselves, so I have been acquiring those.

I am currently 4 shots away from finishing the ending. If there is still an R2 of the disc with ep.87 where I found the others I will be lucky to be able to get it; it may be easier to just wait it out, and I will complete the two shots in the opening when the R1 shows up.

Still looking for the font though.

THREAD NECROMANCY !!!!!

With the third Region 1 Dragon Box coming out at the beginning of May the source I need for the first 4 episodes of this project will be much easier to obtain and higher quality than the source I currently have for the first 3 episodes.

Also with the first disc of the third box I will have enough footage to complete the opening (which I am making by pasting the changed footage onto the Saban opening - there are only 5 shots which differ). It will take longer to complete the ending.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

Now I think about it, I don't think the word 'Sith' was ever used in the OT. Nor was padawan, Padme or pod race.

Correct, although Dark Lord of the Sith was in the novelization, and there are apparently notes from the '70s which have the name Mace Windu and the term Padawan in them.

Idea: an Ultimate Dragonball Z Series?
Time

I think I was kind-of doing the opposite of this at one point. I have one episode of DBK completed where almost all the footage came from the Dragon Box. (ep.3; it's obvious when you see Goku fall back after getting blasted through the chest by Piccolo. in DBK, he has a burn mark, instead of the gaping hole he has in DBZ. the AVI I have, he has the gaping hole.)
