The Official LEGO Star Wars Discussion and Review Thread
Time

Yeah the old Lego Star Wars OT was fun enough. Before they started going overboard with those games and filling them with gimmicks like the LOTR one. That being said the Force Awakens is good, except for the split screen which is that horrible dynamic kind that swirls around when you’re both at a certain distance.

I don’t own any actual Lego sets though, its really over priced and I’d probably collect other kinds of merch given the chance.

Solo: A Star Wars Story — Official Review and Opinions Thread — SPOILERS
Time

It’s just feels sort of empty despite the running time. They skip over Corellia, then they skip over the war - these should have been half the movie where the deepest cuts are made. Beckett’s original crew all die before we get to know them. Then Lando’s robot dies. Who else was there? Qi’ra is there I guess. Apparently Chewbacca eats people. At the end there’s a dramatic reveal about Enfys Nest (?) but I didn’t know her before so there’s no impact.

Solo: A Star Wars Story — Official Review and Opinions Thread — SPOILERS
Time

This movie was all just bland grey filler. It was watchable. Fans of Rogue One will like it. I’m not sure why they go to the trouble of showing Han being someone who lives in the worst slum, then gets thrown into the worst war zone, only for him to still just be a guy who helps out that tribe at the end. Needed to be a hardened cynic by the end. There are major structural problems that sap the dramatic pacing and they should have put the two heists into one finale to allow more characterisation in the first half. Darth Maul is pointless studio think tank material. Overall - Eh.

The Force Awakens: Official Review Thread - ** SPOILERS **
Time

Sure but it’s not enough that they go through the motions and call each other liar/betrayer etc. I have no idea why Anakin believes what he does beyond the fact the story needs him to be in a robot suit after 130 minutes. Especially when some of the promises Palpatine fed him were so vague and outlandish.

The Thanos problem, yeah it’s similar. In some ways. But he at least does thing A to get macguffin B, and I see how that works. I don’t have to get over so many logic hurdles.

Most Baffling Complaint of a Star Wars Movie

Luke is out of character in TLJ.

I liked his character but this is the most understandable complaint I have heard of against the Last Jedi. I completely see where people are coming from cause it was a bold and risky decision.

I’m still bemused by the way people think that he would have stayed in stasis for 30 years and not changed as a person. It’s a pretty long time in which a lot of events could have happened. On top of this they had to write a story in which he doesn’t just come back immediately (making him look like an idiot for hiding in the first place) and an arc that doesn’t end in a videogame massacre where a dozen AT-ATs are smashed (making it look like one man could have won the war - or the wars that came before this - single-handedly at any time). Outside the third flashback being too similar to Kylo’s version it was all pretty well thought out.

When did George Lucas change Star Wars from a Space Opera into a Saga? Is it a Space Opera now?
Time

It’s always been a space opera whether he called it that or not. It’s big and often absurd without any actual science fiction elements. A space station that can destroy an entire planet = operatic. This saga stuff reeks of a desperate attempt to force (huhuh) some sense of congruity between the OT and the prequels.
