4K restoration on Star Wars
Time

Because if they include things to make it one whole “Saga” with explicit links to the PT and the SW Story films it’s unlikely they want any weird stray threads lying around. It’s always been a Special Edition. It’s always been one interconnected series. George Lucas was a genius and this was all part of his original vision. Solo and Rogue One were smooth productions. It’s all one nice brand friendly package and all remnants of the old versions will be swept away.

Most people—even SW fans—also don’t use Internet forums. People of the ‘vintage’ most likely to prefer the OUT are probably even less likely. For this and other reasons the web probably isn’t the best sample to analyze.

Most suspect that most people
A) Don’t know the difference
B) Don’t care and think it’s the same
C) Have never seen the OOT because they weren’t born until after it was butchered
D) Like the butchered version because the old effects are bad

EpIX will confirm my suspicions but the OOT probably doesn’t fit into the overall Disney scheme which is a big brand big connected mediaverse in which everything they release is nice and clean and never has production problems or revised releases.

If it weren’t for our anger at the burying of the OUT, would anyone here care about completionism with the prequels? There are probably tons of movies with tiny little changes like this on home media that no consumer ever noticed.

I think if it was an all-in-one set or nothing just to own a restored OOT most people would be happy to buy it but never watch the prequels.

As for the other movies you mention, at least when a director’s cut exists it is advertised as such. They don’t pretend nothing happened and expect everyone to believe changes made decades later were always the same. Only something like Amadeus is only available in one format (the longer version) but at least it’s always labelled correctly.

Mark should have got an Oscar nomination at least. He’s always had the acting chops. If not for the shadow of Luke hanging over him in the 80’s, he could have been cast in the Amadeus film after doing the role on Broadway.

It’s easily the best performance I’ve seen from him. Kinda weird that he still has sour grapes about the direction considering how great the role was, but then I guess if you look at the full quote he understands how lucky he is to have gotten another crack it at all. Another trilogy with the old cast as the stars was never gonna happen at this point, and if it did, it would have probably sucked.

Agreed.
