Oh I forgot about Willow. They keep bringing that up but I just can’t see a sequel ever happening.

Oh he got banned, I did start to wonder.
So anyway back on topic, does Lucasfilm own other properties like this adaptation? I’m unclear on their role outside of George’s old staples. What can they go beyond? Will they remake The Land Before Time in horrifying CGI fashion as is the current trend? Will they team up with their now sibling company Marvel Studios and remake Howard the Duck with James Gunn at the helm? Hm…
I think it’s so far outside of any studio graphic designer’s experience these days that it isn’t even given a thought.
I think it’s more than they won’t hire someone who does have the experience. Or even re-use the classic artwork but with a new metallic finish. That would look old and bad, they gotta have photoshop floatiness and airbrushed faces.
Lol. Just use poster art ffs.
Do you think someone paid a graphic designer for this? I would have thought the poster art would be more shrewd, but then I guess traditional art is not considered viable by any studio now.
I think you’re missing the point here. Yes, the prequels are bad, and part of the reason why is because George surrounded himself with yes men. But that doesn’t say anything about George’s editing talents. The prequels are actually decently edited: the problem is with the script and acting, not the editing. Also, George edited Jurassic Park, and I don’t see anyone complaining about the bad editing in that movie.
You’re confusing editing for time and pacing with editing for awkward embarrassing content. I think we did this discussion already somewhere. And I think your glossing over the point to raise up the guy as a talent beyond the seeds and the ideas of the story. As for the rest of this thread which has devolved into random tangents about Stanley Kubrick and people taking things personally, I have no idea where to begin. This is OT.com after all, a place where people know the sole genius legend is a lie.
By saved in editing I mean exactly that, it’s no longer an ambiguous idea since now we’ve all seen what a slog the original structure would have been and how bad the deleted scenes are.
Yes, the original edit of Star Wars was bad, but the original edits of most movies are bad, too. That’s why editing exists. Star Wars wasn’t “saved by the edit” more than any other movie.
Yeah but what I’m saying is that we know what it looks like when George has 100% control, without these award winning editors, and it’s the PT. Those films were edited. But he needs those other more creative people to save it from his “vision” which is usually awful when dozens of yes-men are involved.

Anyone who thought someone was going to use the existing EU and pay all the hundreds of writers and artists to adapt their work is nuts. This was inevitable even if George was in control still.

These covers are getting worse all the time
Yeah and when I mean managed I mean y’know one all time classic saved in editing etc. rather than a whole career sparkling with gems like Scorsese, Coppola and De Palma. People with passion who thrive on rather than shrink away from the job. But sure maybe those alleged personal projects he’s been speaking about for the last decade will appear and surprise us all…
Taking the director’s chair is a high pressure role. His contemporaries all managed it.

probably not but who knows.
More than probably.
Sounds like a horror movie which will confuse mainstream audiences. I wonder if it will do any business in a time when fantasy outside of superheroes and SW usually dies at the box office.
As for George’s dream… I’d believe if it I saw any proof he liked to actually direct movies.
They’ve also removed the “episode” moniker to make it all sync with the side-stories.
Also is Mace Windu carrying Yoda in a backpack ?
Oh I was close, they’re all forced to look like one another with a metallic motif. I didn’t think the art would be this awful mind you.
George didn’t seem to care about how bumpy things looked, just look at the Phantom Menace features. Now it’s all fluff.
Oh I thought this thread would be about toys
Has EOD been remastered in HD though?
A documentary that said “the first cut of Star Wars was an unmitigated disaster” will probably be buried.
Don’t know if this was mentioned or matters but Empire of Dreams is on Amazon Prime.
It’s been on youtube for years.
I can’t believe one of the most popular movie franchises of all time, now owned by one of the largest movie studios of all time, and the best option for viewing those movies is currently fan restorations.
Oh I can. There’s a genius narrative George started and it helps their branding to continue the same story.
That sounds very expensive, but I wonder if it’s some other gimmick version. Unless they’re re-selling the steelbooks or something. Prediction: re-branded I-VIII to make them look like one big series. Like all those Disney/Marvel DVD sleeves that are silver and gold now.

a restored OUT is likely gonna be relegated to the back seat of a restored SE Trilogy which being the canon version
I predict this. Back seat might be a bit generous though.
Yeah the scene where Luke says he can see one of the sand people through the scope always confused me since it was cut off at the edges.
I’m primed to either feel Justice League or Star Trek Into Darkness levels of nausea. I’d prefer it not to be this way of course but I have little faith in the film makers involved, and it was the same when the man behind Jurassic World was still attached. I’ll be very surprised if it’s any better or worse than TFA but that’s the realistic bar I imagine they’re aiming for, depending on how indulgent JJ is and how much Saga stuff Disney demands.
But it’s still a peek behind the curtain, despite it being so very minor.
