STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>
Time

Checked Ady's last video, excellent quality as he got us used to; if anything, I only noticed one tiny thing at 1:09 - 1:11, when the door behind Chewie and Lando closes, it sort of bounces a little.

But again, it's nothing really, so congrats for the huge effort done!

Anakin could leave the order by AOTC, say hey I'm married, and maybe not even be on Geonosis at all (if he never goes to Geonosis, he never goes to Tattooine, and therefore, everything happens on Naboo reducing the amount of planets in EPII)

What if he and Padme don't leave Tattooine? What if they don't receive Obi-Wan's message?

Then how, or more exactly where do you pick them up for ROTS?

I know that having them live in Tattooine for at least 3 years would imply some place for anakin and owen getting known to each other, and maybe after leaving anakin is summoned only for the rescue mission, a mission which considering the chancellor as a friend he goes to without hesitation, something that would look mad-like to owen's eyes.

I've been wandering to open ROTS not in the battle mood but somehow in another note, to show Anakin's married "peaceful" life as a former Jedi, now close-to-politics friend of the Chancellor and Husband of a Senator. No baby reveal at all, we get straight to the balcony scene (with all the required editing) though I can't think of a space scene to put after the scroll.

After that, the siege of Coruscant can be established by the Jedi briefing room scene.

Well, tinted glass in a white tone would be rather... weird?

If by that you mean what's commonly known as milk glass, then almost no light makes it through the glass, so both Adywan's and Angel's screenshots would be wrong

If you meant frosted glass, then even in that case Angel's right. Cause it's a problem focused on how much light passes through the glass, and not how does it pass (diffuse transmition). Check out an example:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f3/FrostedGlassWindow.JPG/800px-FrostedGlassWindow.JPG

As you see, frosted glass transmit visible radiation in a different manner than transparent light, but the ammount of light is nearly the same.

Finally, assuming there was some white tinted glass in a galaxy far far away, then, as any other tinted glass, it technically absorbs energy (therefore, less light should be casted through the light, even less than in Ady's screenshot). Infact, that's one of the functions of tinted glass, to perform better thermically by absorbing some wavelenght radiations.

Ronster:

Watched you video. I like the concept though when watching it, something else came to mind.

If we're going CGI, which allow us to basically place Fett anywhere, I'd put him on his own side.

What do I mean by this? It just came to mind that we could place Boba inside the Jabba's ship all the time. So when the lights come off, he points Leia with a gun. When Leia "starts" to kill Jabba, he just puts his gun down, and that's it. He lets Leia kill the Hutt, so that he can be the "heir" of the Hutt empire. In the end, he just flies off the Jabba's ship when it's up to explode, or something.

Not a very developed idea, just throwing it here for brainstorming.

Military installations in Coruscant add massivness, while don't require much CGI, just the mattes. However, heavy rotoscoping tho.

I've been playing with that idea for a couple of days. If we make this scene happen in Coruscant, we basically are "free" (which isn't necesarly good) to do any other exterior shot in the Luke plot-line. Vader with the source of his power on his back (the Empire), while Luke looking in the distance to "civil" Coruscant could be a nice idea of what's going on there.

While I'm not a mock up expert like Angel, I find several things in the images that called my attention. One of them, the roundness of what should be straight lines, I left it in an independent image.

In the first pic, the perspective on the floor is weird and I had to touch it though didn't solve it fully. Fake plateau, forced perspective?

I mean by this that while I like the idea of the set, and I'd keep it, the built set has many things to correct if it enters an AE surgery room. So I'd rather Roto just the characters, which I guess it's less work compared to all the metalic triangles you had to roto out otherwise; and then make the rest on another stage (with straight railings, proper perscpective, etc).

Coruscant is there to bring everything full circle. If we're counting on the prequels being there or heck even the Thrawn books, then Coruscant is where large things happen. It wouldn't be to stop the riots, it would be a show of force that would cleanly remove a large amount of the galaxy's population, which would just make things simpler for the Empire. The "riots" might also be just full-on rebel control of the planet.

The DSII is so massive that all the Imperial aristocracy could live there and just screw everyone else. Blowing up Coruscant is the next step up from blowing up Alderaan, just as the DSII is the next step up from the DS.  The original drafts of this movie had things taking place on Coruscant, or Had Abaddon as it was known at the time. It also had Luke using Yoda's spirit as a literal shield, so take it as you will.

I don't have any personal stake in the Coruscant idea either way, but I wanted to explain it to people like Aalenfae who might work on it.

Sure, why not?

I love the new CGI footage you did Aalenfae. However, I think one of the weaknesses that the "fall of the executor" has is that it actually took three fighters to have it down, which is very little for the biggest ship done after the DS's.

Not a problem of your material, but the theatrical ROTJ. Two A-wings to blow up the shield? If the shield is so vulnerable, then it's coherent that the rest of the ship can fall so easily...

I think that's a scene that could work and needs to be in. Though the "difference" (in order not-to give the "overused" feeling) should be in the music. We have to find some piece of score that is dark, but not dramatic nor menacing.

In ESB is like "look, he's cold as shit, he just kills everyone who doesn't deliver properly" + menacing music. It's just about showing how badass Vader is.

ROTJ, which by definition is more focused on Vader's persona, and by this it could comprehend "why" he's so badass, could be either:

a) He chokes jerjerrod with rage, because he feels between the hammer and the anvil, so we should use some "rage, hurried music". (ROTS coral music, when grievous lands in Utapau comes to mind).

b) He kills with disdain. More in "who's this shit to interpose betwee the emperor and me?"... like Yoda does to the Royal Guard in ROTS too.

Either A or B, I think that ROTJ scenes where Vader is really hard-edge Vader don't abound and we should use it, albeit making some detail (since it's a not very trascendental scene, music is a "detail" and not a really important component of the scene) different.

I could read your scripts for this couple of mounths, I have some time until april.

Wandering... Is it too nuts if ObiWan communicated with Vader at some point?

Vader's return could have deeper reasons than Luke. I think that the feel of being "conned" by the Emperor could be one of them.

Though this could add some "market" sense to Vader (and therefore, the story) , in terms of :

EPIII: "I wanna be inmortal, the Emperor knows how, so Ill be a Sith"

EVI:" Remember that I wanted to be inmortal? Well, ObiWan figured out how, so Ill be a Jedi again. "

However, if we manage to keep that feeling off, I think that Anakin's past striking on Vader could emerge as an intreresting plot-line. We could use meditation chamber footage or standing on brdige footage to make it, I don't know.

Regarding what's been said about Vader being a strong character, my pov is that "strong" in terms of violence cames out when one is weak minded and conflicted. So I think that until the very end, Vader must come more closed to himself, less speaking and more violent.

That's the natural reaction of a beast when he's in fear or pain; they can be quiet for hours not making a sound, but when you touch them, they attack you.

This video is very good but it proves a point about the different blending edges that are too obvious because we have real life explosions and artificial ones.

What bugs me most is ,appart some mask errors, when the lightsaber flashes appear when vader advances on Luke(we see luke's back) but its an easy task to be fixed,is the edge blending.

When you are using a mask to substract the edge(futhered or not) seems wahshed out. What it needs to be is to get the original feel when an overexposured light burns the edges of a dark object.

In the case of this video and most of the new effects that added(mostly glows and flashes) are too clean to simulate the feel and the proper burning

This example below might give an idea of what i mean.

Original

Simple mask

Better edges.

Do you see the difference as a more accurate film feel?

Not the best example of saving the washed out edge arround Luke's head still you might get a taste.

The inbetween edges between the glow and the obsured object must contain color and edge effects.

It has to have the edge like it was printed and burned the pixels not just substracting the object. :)

-Angel

The man's got a point, and a strong one.Ady wants ESB:R to look like what it is: a film of the 80's, only that with improved technical quality. But yet a film, not a digital transfer.

What Angel is claiming is directly related to how a film phisically behave as a consequence of the rotoscoping and exposure process the analogical FX for a lightsabre needs.

So, in terms of "real 80`s look" he's being accurate. There's never (before the digital era) been a "perfect" mask, since it always ends up burning a little bit of the original print benneath it.

Thanks for the correction Mithrandir (in my defense the two projects were announced around the same time and they do get merged in my head sometimes).

The alliance should attack with everything they have at hand.

The un-chromed naboo fighters could really work; though I'd have a squadron and not just "subtle one or two". Endor space battle is closing the saga and nothing should be subtle on it.

I'm even for adding old Republic junk ships, like early star destroyers of AOTC with some customization (heavy customization I mean, tho Im just throwing the idea here), or the shuttle in which Quigon and ObiWan arrive at the very begginning of TPM.

Other idea I had was to replace the imperial shuttle that the rebels use to infiltrate on Endor by an old Republic/ early Empire ship; having in mind that everyone on the executor gets curious about the ship, and the "old code" they use... infact, it'd make Vader's move by letting it pass, more obvious (though don't know if that's good).

Idea &amp; Info: Star Wars Replacement Music Suggestions
Time

I've always said that with an orchestral re-arrangement (like cutter does, for instance), this theme of McCartney could be a good love/tender theme for soft scenes; specially considering that the first notes of the main melody are very Binary Sunset-like (listen to 0:05)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ir-Pl4szYOs&feature=related

Then the song turns to an orchestration and melodies that couldn't function well in a Star Wars movie. But I'm of the idea that nothing is going to fit perfectly, everything that's not SW will need at least, some minimal arrangement/tweak, that's why I'd rather look for melodies instead of "finished" songs.

I really like the idea of Vader having his saber lit up, and ready for action when he enters the base.

On a slightly off-topic, techie note: Why was the frame rate of the video so...bad/weird?

I like the idea of Vader being more willing to kill in the shots, though I don't think having him have the lightsabre on is a very subtle way.

Remember OT is almost medieval-like in some aspect (before PT came up with more shit), with knights, princesses, etc. I always figured out that, unlike the Jedi, Vader only drews his sabre against other knights; as if only someone of his status deserves to die by his blade. A rather superb, an ancient-regime thought btw, something that someone over confident and fond of his ego like vader or any sith could believe. In fact, I think that's something that could be eventually pulled out as an interesting line in future PT:R.

We see Obi Wan attack the guy in the cantina with his sabre. Luke uses his sabre for chopping out the AT AT in Hoth, and later he uses it in the whole Jabba thing. But we never see that of Vader.

Those who are "lesser beings" always die choked, or in some other way that doesn't imply the sith lord moving a finger.

Again, a very medieval thought, and an interesting approach to what Jedi and Sith could believe of knighthood.

But even if this video is nice and insteresting, there's one thing I don't really like, cause it brings Vader down to real life. It's between 1:23 and 1:26, when he walks and has to evade an obstacle, passing between two pillars of the base. I always felt that part, even in the theatrical release, looks ackward and TVish. NOTHING can stand in vader's way if we don't want him to become some quotidian villain.

Greetings!
