Finally Got Rid of My 2004 DVD's...
Time
I think that it's the fact the the original versions which won Academy Awards, changed cinema, and alter pop culture as we know it are regulated to "bonus material" and nothing more. Quality is the issue most because if the SEs can get the proper treatment, so should the OOT. A few years down the road, 16:9 HDTVs and 5.1 setups will proably become the norm. To a lot of people, OOT are the trilogy and the SEs are sort of a novelty. George, or course, disagrees. Most of us want this beter version because we spend countless dollars over the years supporting the films which we love only to told first that they "don't exist" and then that, because they don't represent George's original visions, that they cannot be restored. Many, many other DVDs present both versions of the films in high quality. I think that if Lucas had just restored and remaster the OOT and released that with the SEs, everything would be fine. Let me phrase it this way: if Lucas released a gorgeously restored version of the OOT and neglected the SEs with a poor release, how would you feel as a fan of the SEs? We want a quality release of the OOT because of the reasons that you mentioned, but also because we just want to be able to watch it in high quality at home. It is Lucas who created most of the reasons that you mentioned (second-class citizens, etc.). Just let me clarify. Are you with us in wanting a high quality release of the OOT or not? Just curious. And welcome. Perhaps you will be of use to us . And I think that the "other" boards are theforce.net. I've never been there though.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Trailer

I thought this trailer and style looked KICK-ASS! I really got a charge out of it- reminded me of why I liked the series in the first place.

Oh, and the Foot were actual human ninjas as well... not robots. I wonder if they'll go that route.

As a side note, do any Turtles fans know that the Turtles share their origin with Matt Murdoch... aka Daredevil?

How do theys share their origin with Daredevil? And where does one procure trade paperbacks of Eastman and Lairds original works? I would very, very much like to read them.

I can't play the trailer! ARRG!

I appreciate not only the welcome, but the fact that you haven't insulted me for my preference. While a majority of SE fans probably wouldn't care about the release of the OOT in better quality I don't see how George couldn't. It's not as if movies have never come out with varying editions in them. That's a market that he's only now attempting to dabble in, let's hope he gets his feet wet enough to want to go all the way and meet fan demand.

I'm with you! And I certainly have no problem with your preferences. I respect people who like the SEs and the PT, I just want a high quality copy of the OOT that I can watch at home and show my children and my children's children. Your preferences are proof that Lucas is alienating even the fans who prefer his vision by his attitude as a whole. As I've said, Lucas's comments in the MTV interview were very revealing, and hopefully indicative of things to come. In any case, even SE fans have no reason to be satisfied with the controversial mix on the SE trilogy boxed set, the infamous color changing light saber and other mistakes, and the controversial edge-enhancement on the TPM DVD. Your preference for the SEs just means that we've got someone who can help us communicate with the other side . Thanks for joining us. We need all the help we can get. After the announcement of the non-anamorphic DVDs, it appears that fupport increased rather than waned. We are gaining ground in the battle, and this is just another nail in the coffin to make fans work harder than ever to preserve the OOT, which is the exact opposite what Lucas hoped to accomplish with this release.

It seems that Lucas has been too busy viewing Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope to actually watch Star Wars, the film which was released in 1977.

Jokes thread : Reloaded

A bunch of college students miss a test. One, who knows the professor, tells him that they had a flat tire, and asks if they could retake the test. The profeessor says yes, on the condition that they take it in separate rooms. Flushed with their success, they are taking it, and they all look in horror as they flip it over and it says, "which tire?"

Three guys walk into a bar. Don't you think that the third one would have seen it?

Well, Lucas did ask other directors to direct the PT, but they all turned him down.

I know. After what they saw of the SE's those were probably like uhhh NO.

The way that I heard it, Lucas wanted to tell the story a certain way and otehr directors tried to dissudae him from doing things which he wanted, so he decided to direct himself. I wonder whatever happened to the young man who gave the reigns of The Empire Strikes Back to another director because he did not feel confident in his own skills.

Didn't Episode I just get released not ten years ago????

Could old george really be serious about tinkering with episodes I, II, and III????? If he does, I think that we can't put this down to Buddhism but to insanity. He just doesn't know when to quit.....

It is almost a fact at this point that he is going to alter the PT. Not that I mind much, and in any case the original version of those have been circulating in high quality (the edge enhancement on Episode I controversy aside) on DVD for a while now. But that doesn't seem to bother him as much as the OOT. I wish that I could understand this man, I really do.

Well what they could have done is what they done with the alien box set have two versions plus tons of extres !! I wish but it will never happen . Next year GL will bring out (at christmas ) a 12 disk box set !!

Never say never. That could very well happen. And we all know that there will be a boxed set next year. We just need to pray that it will include a proper remastered OOT.

Didn't they want to CGI Yoda in Ep I, thats why a box set wasn't released yet?

Supposedly yes.

I had a dream that GL announce that the uber boxset for next year would have a CGI Yoda in ESB and ROTJ

He wants to. But hasn't Gary Kurtz sworn that as long as there is breath in his body, he will not let Lucas do it?

With the exception of the spectatuclar finale, I thought that HPB was, by and large, the weakest of the six books thus far. I do agree, however, that Columbus should be kept away from the franchise now.

I always thought book 2 was the weakest one. Well, at least we agree about keeping Columbus away.

Maybe you're right. Chamber is ripping good yarn, but outside of revealing a single Horcrux, it does little for the overall narrative. The same is true, to a lesser extent, of Stone. Prisoner and Goblet are sort of The Empire Strikes Back of the series and to a lesser extent, Order. I think that Order and Prince were showing cracks in the narrative a bit. After book seven, I'd be glad to eat my words if the whole thing is connected! Columbus is, to me, kind of like Lucas. He's sort of a poor man's Spielberg. His adaptations of the book are just that: he doesn't really add many touches of his own, unlike, say, Caruon. There are some impressive action set pieces (the rough bludger sequence, for example), everything feels so stiff and doesn't move or flow the way that the almost agonizingly suspenesful narrative in the books do. The Bassilisk, far from being frightening, sort of looked like a reject from Jurassic Park. Columbus is too wham-bam, and he is faithful to the letter of the book, but not so much to the spirit. He's a good technician and a good producer (look at the third film), like Lucas, but he is not much of a storyteller. Caruon had a very clear vision, even if it did not corralate with my own. But then again, I've always thought that that was something of a bad argument. No two peoples' vision of a book ar going to be exactly the same, and nothing even the most gifted filmaker can create will ever measure up to my own imagination. Doubtlessly, as I reread HBP, I will come to appreciate it more.
