I would want it in the best possible way. It deserves that, and as we have seen, anything but that means Lucas will slack off. I've mentioned that this is a catch 22 time and time again, but I firmly believe that this isn't the last we'll see of the OOT on DVD. We're not that powerless. After all the OOT is coming out, even if it is a substandard release. We're gaining ground. We've borken through the first line. Let not give up now.

Does anyone by chance have the hyperspace trailer for these discs. I want to see the trailer. Knowing LFL, on the trailer they probably used the film masters, jsut to piss us off.


Perhaps they should stop wastin money on the trailers and the "who shot first" (Han, you morons) cards and actually spend the money on the release.

It is not the point of giving up, it is just so deflating, it almost isn't worth getting that mad over anymore, because the guy is such a douchebag now, I am almost at the point of, "OK, when you do remaster it the right, send me an email, other than that don't do this halfass release."

It such a shame cause Lucas has turned moderate fans like me into a fan that hates the creator now, plain & simple. Everytime he tries to tie the sagas, he keeps pushing me away. I enjoyed the PT movies, of course they are not nearly as great as the OT, or will I ever love them nearly as much either, but I never got mad at Lucas for the underwhleming at times PT movies like many fans did.

But in 2004, when he just put out the SE on DVD, that is when he turned me from a Lucas defender, to a Lucas basher for ruining the OT by putting Hayden in ROTJ. That change alone keeps me from every popping in ROTJ SE, cause it is just so bad it is insulting to take out an actor who is dead now in real life, Sebastian Shaw, and put in Hayden as some gimmick to tie the trilogies that Lucas couldn't do while writing them. This is a gimmick to tie the trilogies, plain & simple, this has nothing to do with vision, or Lucas would have put some 20 year old actor in there in 1983!

Because of Lucas treatment of the O-OT, he has actually turned me off from the PT now, cause now I blame the PT for all these stupid changes cause Lucas keeps tinkering to make them the saga now. So this will never end as each release will feature some new tie-in on one of the OT movies that references the PT, and that is not appealing to me at all.

I know many here hate the PT, and I can't argue with anyone in that respect, cause I don't understand your hatred, but if Lucas would have kept the saga the same all these years: PT + O-OT = Every DVD set, then I think I would be a fan of all 6 movies, and just love the OT more. But now I am an O-OT fan who hates the SE & gets mad at the PT cause Lucas keeps trying to tie it to the OT with more changes.

I can't believe I feel this way towards my 3 favorite movies of all-time, it is a true slap in the face by our beloved creator.


I agree. However, perhaps this will open his eyes some. I think that Lucas has his eyes on this release, and I think that he is watching very closely. This seems to be a test, and I hope that it passes his muster. One never knows. I agree about the PT. I don't think that is up to par with the originals by any means, but it is nevertheless fun in places. The problem is that it is the core of the issue with the SEs.

Yes, It's incredibly confusing. I keep wonder if there is some reason for his continuious change that we do not understand. It's not like he wouldn't have been able to do whatver he wanted when maing the prequels. I can't help but think that there is something else going on here.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of the prequels, I do give a damn, because I'm not just here because I think the Star Wars trilogy's theatrical editions should be preserved, but that of all movies.


Don't forget THX 1138. I'd love to see that film someday, but Lucas doesn't seem to want to release it. And T.V. shows. Apart from the idiotic censorships of Tom and Jerry, there is also the situation of the producers of shows like Northern Exposure and Quantum Leap whod don't want to buy the original music. We'll probably never see proper release of those. The recent Justice League season 2 set was released in widescreen after a massive letter writing campaign, but not anamorphic. After complaints, future sets will be 16:9. Why can't I just watch things the way the they were originally presented in high quality on DVD? Is that too much to ask?

As far as the behind the scenes books and programmes tell, he isn't really at home in the director's chair.

He himself has admitted it.

Maybe he should spend more time writing since that does seem to be something he is really good at.


Lucas is good at writing stoires. He is good at structuring them. Look atRaiders of the Lost Ark or The Empire Strikes Back. His problem lies with writing dialogue. He is a fantastic producer because he is skilled technician and craftsman, his problem lies with storytelling. He is unquestionably talented and intelligent. He is simply misdirecting his abilities at the moment.

He will, probably soon enough. Remember "Now we'll find out if people really wanted the originals or if they wanted the improved versions. It will all come out in the end. With the 30th anniversary approaching, we appear to have at last reached some point of reckoning. Lucas appears to want to go head to head with the fans at this point. Here's hoping everyhing will iron itself out soon enough. At least that's what I tell myself so that I can sleep at night.

Yes things are still bleeped. Very often. Or just muted. I suppose that this doesn't apply to editing for televsion?

Have Lucasfilm actually said that this is the last time the OOT will be released? I don't remember them saying any such thing (they just said it back in 1995). I just remember them saying that this release was coming out due to demand and to test the waters and the they have "no plans-now or in the future-to restore the 'earlier' version" (which means a few years at most). Its nice to see that so many on this board shar my pervesely optimistic views. I want to the Home Theater Forum today and there was a lot of dejected negativity. This is a good sign, not a bad one. Lucas's MTV comments suggest that he is finally waking up to the importance (i.e. financial benefit) of the OOT. We're winning.

I dislike what the man has done. Criticizing him for his hairstyle or the way that he talks or somesuch is idiotic, but criticizing him for his attitude to toward the fans and the OOT is in my opinion completely legitimate and constructive. Take, for example Joss Whedon or James Cameron. I know neither of them, but their reputations suggest egotistical things about them. They may well deserve such criticism, I don't know. But they have made good films/television series and are willing to give fans what they want. Lucas is not. That doesn't mean that I have anything against the man. I just want a cristply remaster anamoorphic widescreen mono/2.0/5.1(/DTS?) release of the OOT on DVD, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, and other future formats to come down the road. I want to have a choice between both versions, I always want customers to have that choice. I am criticizing Lucas's actions, but but not necessarily him. Criticism of him and his ego generalyl comes only by extension.
