What do you mean?

And also, you couldn't concentrate a beam of light for that length. Another thing is that when they start up, with a real beam of light, it would just turn on, instead of gradually protruding. And light doesn't make a sound.

The fact that distinguishes the Laser beam from any other light beam is that all photons have paraller (or almost parallel) courses. That trait makes laser so usefull, because you can point light to a certain direction. As a consequence, a laser beam cannot be visible, because none of the photons ever reaches your eye. If they did, the light beam would not be concentrated. When you "see" a laser beam in dust, what you actually see are the photons that hit a particle and lost their course, and therefore are not anymore part of the laser beam. The only way to see a laser beam, is for it to be pointed to your eye. So, in the case of a laser gun, the only way to see the beam is to be pointed at your eye when if opens fire.

Looking up to the posts of this thread, I only see people who either:
1) Have offered discs to my for free/a small cost.
2) Have already paid by mistake a considerable amount of money to buy their copies.
So I'm thinking that saying that there are hypocrites in this very thread sounds a bit too hard.
There are not so many of them IMHO, most people in this forum are kind, helpfull and trustworthy.

If I ever figure out how to convert it to XVID, I'll post it for people to see.

Making an mgeg4 conversion, such as Xvid could not be easier. All you have to do is download and install the Xvid codec, then load your movie into VirtualDub.
Select the part of the movie you wish to encode using the 2 black arrow buttons on the low-right.
then go to Video -> Full processing mode, Video -> Compression. Select the Xvid codec and then press configure. 700kbps should be sufficient.
Remember that your video width and height should be a multiple of 4 or 2 (depends on your codec).
then goto file -> Save as..
If you wish to conpress the audio too, you can do the same thing for the audio stream (full processing mode etc...)

If on the other hand you have a whole DVD to encode, try using DVDx 2.2
It is freeware, and will do EVERYTHING.

Favourite film out of original trilogy?

Read my second edit above. I wrote it before seeing your post, and I think that should set things straight. What I wrote had nothing to do with SW. It is my general comment on people rating stuff (teachers rating students, ratings on various contests etc...)

Let's be a little more realistic...
I'm sick of seing people rating stuff, and never giving a rate below 7.
Have you ever heard of the Gaussian distribution?

In plain english, that means that:
a)70% of the things beiing given a rate/value should be rated between 3.5-6.5 (using a ususal value of sigma, in that case sigma=1,5).
b)For the same sigma value, If something is rated with an "8", it does not mean that it is better than 8 out of 10 other rated stuff, it is better than the 98% of the others.
If something gets a "9", it means it is better than the 99,5% of the others.

Keeping that in mind, here is my own rating of the films:
SW: 8
ESB: 9
ROTJ: 5
TPM: 5.5
AOTC: 7

EDIT: Sorry for the diagram it should have a white background, but I can't fix it. It is better shown if you select it by dragging the mouse over it.
EDIT2: greencapt, By replying to your post I didn't mean to offend you or disagree with you. Your post just reminded my of that thing, and I just wanted to make my point. As you can see, our ratings are placed on a different scale, but they are similar

About the "Dark Side" dealers
Time
What's your opinion about this?
Way I see it, people who buy the OT overcharged from eBay and various other sources, simply did not put any effort at all in searching for the OT, otherwise they would have found this site (as I did). In this point of view, if people are willing to pay $100-$150 instead of doing a little search, well, that's their choise.
I agree that yes, people selling the OT DVD's on eBay are making profit out of another man's work simply because they have a DVD-r, but look at it in that way: If it wasn't for those people, some buyers who got their DVDs from them would not ever have found this site, and they would not have the option of owning an OT DVD.
In that point of view, the "dark side" dealers, contribute a little to this site's cause.
Don't get me wrong, I hate them too, but I wanted to light another aspect of this thing...

Torrents for little noobs like me?!?
Time
Just a tip, because I noticed I little confusion here:
A file downloaded via a torrent session does not differ at all from all the other files you have ever downloaded/used.
If you did not have this AC3 filter, you wouldn't hear the sound of the file, wether you downloaded it via torrent, http, ftp, p2p, or was simply handed to you in a CD.
Torrent is a file transfer protocol, nothing more, nothing less.

Star Wars: Deleted Magic (Released)
Time
Previous post reminder: I got my deleted magic DVD from ocpmovie, but some files were unreadable (those ones written in the disc's outer zone)
I don't put any blame on ocpmovie at all, I'm sure that quality checking for every single disc that he sent would be an enormus loss of time, comsidering the amount of discs he sent. I just happened to be the unlucky one. (PS: thank you ocp for you reply to my mail, as you can see I'm doing the exact thing you suggested)

So, I ask you for one more time: Can someone PLEASE provide me with the files I couldn't read?
Their total size is 44 MB, and I could provide you with the server and the webspace if you would just be willing to upload them for me (PM me for details).
Even if someone could not upload the full 44MB, a single file upload would be greatly appreciated.

So here's the list of files I couldn't read:

root directory\ROTJ SE rough version ending.wmv
root directory\Star Wars First Draft.DOC
root directory\Star Wars Published Fourth Draft.doc
root directory\Star Wars Reviseed Fourth Draft.txt
root directory\Star Wars Second Draft.DOC
root directory\Star Wars Third Draft.DOC and
root directory\SWPreviewCrawl.mov

Thank you.

Star Wars: Deleted Magic (Released)
Time
I received my Deleted Magic copy last week.
The part of the disc that I had the time to watch was fantastic! Congratulations ocpmovie, and thank you...
Unfortunatelly, the disc ocpmovie sent me was not entirely readable as I just found out.
Actually, I tried in 3 different DVD drives, and they were all unable to read the following files:

VTS_18_1.vob and
all the files in the root directory except "AOTC droid ship cut scene.avi" and "anatomy of a Dewback.mov".

I know that this is too much to ask, but could someone PLEASE host these files just for a little time so I could download them?
I'd hate to ask ocp to resend me the whole DVD because of this (and since I am located in Greece, that would mean that I'd have to wait for too long for the DVD to arrive, should ocp resend it to me)
The total size of these files is considerable (50MB), but if someone would be kind enough to host them, I'd download them within 20'.

Edit: Removed some files I was able to read.

Changes that you like (from the 1997 SE and the 2004 OT SE DVD release)
Time
About whether this thread should not be in the "Theatrical vs SE": I gave it some thought before posting it, and concluded that it shouldn't, simply because I'm not asking you to state your preference. By simply saying that you like changed scene, that does not mean that you prefer the whole movie.
After all, I could like changed scene, but prefer the old one for sentimental reasons nonetheless. Of course I could be wrong about this. As I said before I wasn't too certain about where I should post it. Sorry if I made a mess...
And second, there is no thread in the "Theatrical vs SE" with a similar topic.

Info Wanted: on custom DVD Menus
Time
Yes, the row47 set has 3 extras discs (1 for each film) and there also is the supplemental material disc for the trilogy.
The farsight extras is available at myspleen, and has quite the same contenet as the Dr. Gonzo's extras (they both are transfers of the "Definitive collection" extras)
I would recommend Dr. Gonzo's because of the menus and still galleries, and the Rowman's set because of their content, which is not on the other discs.

Info Wanted: on custom DVD Menus
Time
Menus, when compiled into a DVD no loger are editable or usable for other projects as they are.
You have to have the saved DVD project, and the required uncompiled video and audio streams.
Having ripped the clips though, and with a proper DVD authoring tool (like DVD lab that MeBe mentioned) , you could reconstruct them.
There is also the option of using DVD remake pro, and deleting all the movie blocks, just to keep the menus. You could afterwards add another movie's blocks in their place, but you would have to edit the menu's commands as to re-direct to the movie blocks you have added. This is a very time-consuming and painfull proccess if you ask me...
The best solution would be to download the whole DVD and use it "as is" if you are not very experienced on that field.
So here's a list of the available OT DVD with menus you could search for and acquire:

Row47 7 disc set
Editdroid 3 disc set
Dr.Gonzo's 4 disc set
Isomix 3 disc set
Punk13 3 disc set
Look 3 disc set
Quality Broth 3 disc set

I think you could find this link helpfull.

There is also the Farsight ANH disc with menus I made for Rowman, so he is the only man you could acquire this disc from.

Edit:: PS. MeBeJedi, thanks a lot for the DVD lab prog suggestion. I have used it for something like a month now, and it is indeed an awsome prog.

Changes that you like (from the 1997 SE and the 2004 OT SE DVD release)
Time

You have to admit, even if the whole GL strategy about re-editing his films is awful, there must be some changes in the SE or the DVD that you liked.
I for one loved the new Victory celebration music in ROTJ.
It is very emotional, and having seen the prequels, gives a perfect feeling of completion.
And about the “Hayden Cristiansen as ghost of Darth Vader” thing, even though I completely oppose to that change, I have to admit that it is a very emotional scene for younger audiences who watch the trilogy for the first time. The reason I say that is because Hayden has a spark in his eyes in that scene and performs with such energy, that justifies all that has happened, as opposed to the old version compationate, father-like Vader.
Your turn…

EDIT:: Added the “ghost of” phrase to avoid confusion.
