STAR WARS: the alt.binaries.starwars thread
Time
It is a usenet news group. If you search in this thread, you will find links with guides on how to use it.
Basically the concept is as such: A DVD is beeing split to multiple pieces of a certain size, in .rar files. Then each .rar file is posted as several mail posts (the usenet program you will use will automatically combine all the posts to one, containing the .rar file). You have to download all the .rar files and then decompress using winrar.
In case you miss any of the .rar files in the sequence, there are .par files posted as well. A par file is a file that can replace ANY .rar you might miss.
Newsgroups are not in the web, there are dedicated news servers (like e-mail or irc servers).
Unfortunatelly, in order to have good newsgroup service to get your job done, you have to pay for a newsgroup server. I would recommend you watch this thread, and if you see something beiing posted that intrests you, then subscribe and get it. You should pay attention on the date of things beeing posted, because when something is posted, it doesen't stay for ever. Good usenet servers keep the file for 10-15 days.
I was reluctant to pay for this service as you might be at first, because I wasn't sure if I would manage to get what I wanted.
I subscribed to a cheap service (www.news.astraweb.com 25GB for $10) thinking that even if i did not manage to get the file I wanted, the loss would not be a great one. I suggest you do the same thing.
Hope this was helpfull.

The "ADigitalMan Special Editions" DVD Info and Feedback Thread (Released)
Time
I have been "paying it forward" since the day I received my first SW disc.
Thing is, I believe that even the smallest charge could prohibit some users from obtaining the sets, from fear of paying online.
There are some users that wanted me to send them discs, but had absolutely no idea about how to pay (I was like them too, until I was "forced" to learn in order to get in my hands a copy of "Deleted magic".
So I really think the "pay it foreward" system could work in a community such as ours, where our goal is a common one: To spread the OOT around.
Good work ADigitalMan, I hope I will be able to get a copy of your set in my hands soon.

There you'll find an empty frame, a frame of the lightsaber from the 2004 DVD, and at the bottom, my own one. I tried to mimick the very nice glow of the old ones, but gave it some colour instead of making it white.

And Hardcor Legend, I mean no insult but your lightsabers lack glow. They don't look like an actual lightsource. If you take a photo of some actual lightsources you'll see what I mean.

Very nice Zebonka! I really loved your fix, the saber looks very naturel. But I do believe that it should be shortened, like in Hardcore Legend's fix.

Well, I will for sure get a copy of this! I haven't made my order yet, cause I was caught off-guard with this, but after Darth Editous sends his first round I will order it too.
Things at myspleen are a little tight right now (look at the comments I received for uploading Moth3r's project!), and I think posting the particular edit would push it too far.
Maybe a trackerless torrent could resolve this, but the trackerless feature is very new and I haven't tested it yet.

STAR WARS: The Torrents thread
Time
Torrent is a file sharing protocol, by means of which people download and upload files without having a huge bandwidth a server would require. It is a very usefull protocol for sharing large files that many people want.
Yes, indeed you need a torrent client to download torrents. Here's some of them:
BitTornado
Azureus
BitSpirit
BitTorrent (client)
ABC
I personally prefer BitSpirit amongst the above, and I would most definatelly recomend it.

After you've downloaded and installed a bitTorent client, all you have to do is find the tracker (web site) that offers the stuff you are intersted in (for SW stuff, www.myspleen.net is an excelent tracker), and sign in that tracker. The reason you are requested to sign in, is bacause each tracker keeps track of your upload/download activity, and gives special privileges to uploaders, as to avoid leeching, which is the main problem on peer to peer file sharing.

If you have found the tracker and the torrent you are intrested in, then you are prompted to download a small .torrent file. This file contains all the information needed for downloading the torrent. If you run this file, your installed BitTorrent client will start, and so will your download.
Hope this was helpfull, happy downloading

Things you DID NOT like about Episode III
Time
Do you dare to compare the shock taken when we learned Leia was Luke's sister with that of the fact that Vader was Luke's father?
Maybe we should not see the birth at all to avoid loss of emotion on the OT. No, the answer is that future generations should view the films in the order we all saw them.

A comment on your critics:
I really think that most of you guys are just doing your best to find every single flaw in the movie, but apparently you are not trying enough.
The film was f@*&ing great! No comparison with the first two prequels that really sucked. You honestly want people to believe that you think Anakin's turn to the dark side was not convincing, and Luke's LAME strugle not to hit the emperor in ROTJ was?
Fact is that characters and sentiments in this movie are far more conviencing compared to the simplistic Good - Bad struggle in the OT.
Compare for instance the elaborate way in which Palpatine lures Anakin to the dark side, to the "yes, strike me down and then you will belong to me" line in ROTJ
But just to be a little more on-topic, let me say one thing that I hated in the movie that has not been mentioned:
Dear George Lucas, making Ewoks sould like Tarzan in ROTJ was an insult to your imagination, and peolpe hated it. Why the hell would you make wookies sound like Tarzan too? Didn't you get the message 20 years ago?

How do you rate EpIII?
Time
I just returned from a "journey" I made to watch ROTS with some of my friends in another town.
I have to admit, I didn't expect to like this movie so much, but I did. I could go on explaining why I loved it, but I quess everything is pretty much said, so here's my rating:

Ep.V ESB:10
Ep.IV ANH: 9
EP.III ROTS: 9
EP.II AOTC: 8
Ep.VI ROTJ: 6
Ep.I TPM: 5

RotS is Anti-Bush?
Time
The fact that Bush maintains a pro-war politic, does not mean that every war movie refers to him.
And if all war movies did refer to him, that would really make him a great personality, which he (history-wise) most definatelly is not.
ROTS tries to make a point on a more general basis, and if the model described in this movie applies to modern politics, it is only because humans create fantasy using their current experienses as their main recource.

DVD Covers
Time
Nice covers! Thanks for the links...
One minor comment though:
About the widescreen logo on the Wokie Groomer splitscreen sets: 4:3 is not considered as "widescreen"

EDIT:: And another thing: in the Deleted magic DVD link, you forgot the .jpg extension, so the link appears to be broken.

.: Moth3r's PAL DVD project :.
Time
I have made the cover art for this transfer under Moth3r's supervision.
You can download it in the link below

Thin spine cover (1.8MB)

EDIT: Moth3r, you were right. The thick spine was for 2ble DVD cases, but when it comes to your transfer, there is absolutely no need for a double DVD case (there is only 1 disc). It never occured to me that way, but now you mentioned it, I decided to remove the link for the thick spine.

Got the LD rips - Now How Do I Make Them Work?

Normally, you can't have superior quality over the transfer source. But when it comes to analog mediums, there is another factor you have not calculated, and that is the capability of your player to bring the most out of your source. So there are some cases, where purchacing the "dub", will improve your viewing experience.
For instance, the upcoming XO based projects will have better quality than an average LD player would give you, even with a "superior quality" source.

Got the LD rips - Now How Do I Make Them Work?

EVERY mpeg-4 player will play any container file format (avi, wmv, mpg, ogm, mkv etc...) provided you have the supporting software (they are called filters, and what they actually are, is quides for (de-)multiplexing the various streams). I would suggest BSPlayer, or The Core Media Player.
For the supporting software (filters): As I have stated 1 million times before, ffdshow (try downloading it here) will handle both almost every container file, and includes every compression codec you might imagine.
As an alternative, you can download the OGM filter in the link above.
If you do have this software, and still prefer to have your movie in another container, such as avi, you can load the file in VirtualDubMod, disable all the audio and subtitle streams except the ones you desire, and save as .... .avi using the option "direct stream copy". This will take aproximately 3 minutes.
