I’m pretty sure poita said the owner won’t allow it to be scanned - but it is available for viewing. 😃 By the look of this German print scan though all the picture information is there to be dug out which is terrific news!
That is correct, I’m allowed to view the ‘Australian Print’ but not allowed to scan it.
If someone has $40K, I can take a scanner with me to QLD and scan it at his place, but short of that, it won’t happen.I got a weird message from a user I won’t name saying that he/she was calling BS on this scan, that it was clearly just the GOUT with noise added, and that it couldn’t have been stabilised to sprockets otherwise there would be blurring between frames, that all prints are now faded and a whole bunch of other ‘proofs’ that I haven’t scanned an ESB reel.
I normally don’t respond to that kind of thing, but to stop any speculation, here is Reel1 of the UK print with sprockets, soundtrack and audio. I’ve boosted the gamma a lot to let everyone see more shadow detail. The colours are still off of course, but it should sink any speculation that it is some kind of manipulated GOUT. You will also be able to judge for yourself whether the sprocket stabilisation is done well or not, as you will see them on the left hand side of the scan.

I’d be really happy for any feedback re missing or damaged frames, there is timecode on the file, so you can reference a frame and I will know exactly which one you mean.The only issue with this reel is I was playing with dirt cleanup where the probe emerges from the crater, so that small sequence has been cleaned up more than it would be in the actual archived version. I inadvertently had that sequence in this encode.
To answer other questions, yes we can capture the Deutsch stereo optical audio once I can get the reels cleaned. Yes, the English Audio should also be able to be captured, and if these two prints are done, it means we have 3 in total, so we should be pretty much right with not having to recreate data from any given frames.
There is no timeframe on getting the rest cleaned and scanned, the cost is around $150-$200 per reel for cleaning alone, plus shipping etc. Film is so damn heavy and annoying to ship. It seems amazing now that prints were ever shipped constantly all around the world.
I will be offline until Tuesday next week, I am travelling to Sydney on family business, so feel free to ask questions, but you won’t see answers from me for a few days 😃

That’s just crazy talk. I’d really like that person to come on this thread and tell all of us straight up how this can possibly be a GOUT upscale?? Does (s)he not know how incredibly soft and video-ish it would look? And even if you were to sharpen it or add grain, you still could not just add detail.

No, this is not an IB print. However, the color references are the same scans of an IB print, that Harmy used for Despecialized 2.5. These scans are not corrected to match the print, so before applying the color grade to the print, I first correct the Technicolor reference scans.

I am impressed by the screenshot comparison from up above. The blu-ray does SEEM sharper but it could just be artificial sharpening.
Also, take a look at 3pO’s exposed stomach area. Much more detail in the 4k than the bluray.

A bit of cropping is normal both for projection of film prints and commercial releases. This is especially necessary for scope films in which there is very little space between frames and the glue splices from the negative become visible.
I’ve always thought that the 1978 and the 1983 versions are the same… But I don’t really have any proof apart from heresy.
This print is in really good shape! Plus the color looks great. The only negative thing I can say is that it’s cropped.
Playing Resident Evil 2 for the 1st time. Beat Leon A and working on my way up with Claire B. So far the B campaign is faster since I know the layout of the police station but harder since there seem to be more powerful monsters.
I am enjoying it a lot! It’s not a very long game once you know what to do but there is a good amount of replayability. I would like to try Claire A and Leon B sometime and this time I’ll shut those damn electric shutters!

Just so we’re on the same page here: I didn’t like BvS either.
I just don’t get the idolization the Christopher Nolan Batman movies get when they’re only passable.
Having recently seen TDK and TDKR, I find them to be very overrated. The main thing that irks me is all the talking and exposition. I feel like Christopher Nolan takes the audience for idiots so he as to spell out everything just to make sure it’s shoved down our throats whatever message he’s trying to give.
Also, it tries to balance between realism and fantasy and it often falters. For all the talk about a ‘realistic’ Batman movie the fans talk about, the plot hinges on microwave bombs, planes without wings and radar vision from hacked cell phones. And don’t get me started on that moment when Batman jumps out of a window, grabs Maggie Gyllenhaal and they land on a car with hardly a scratch…
They’re not terrible films, but I don’t understand how fans will point out all the minute plot issues with BvS and give these films a pass.
