Despecialized mono soundtracks remixed to stereo
Time

I think people are just a bit confused. Your 1st post is just “check it out!”

It’s best to start a new topic with what you were trying to achieve and then go into a little detail how you went about doing it (what programs, what sources, what exactly you did). I think people are definitely interested in different things but we’d like to know the ins and outs.

Well, everyone has their reasons and to be honest, it’s not a difficult thing for me to do. All I have to do is to lower the English track in my iMovie timeline and raise the volume of all the Italian clips. Now you have the Italian dub in sync to the LD for very little effort.

The only “issue” is that I need to splice back in the infoscreens from the 35mm print in order to get the Italian sound from those few missing portions.

I’ve update the 1st 1000 frames post (above). Suggestions (especially from poita, as he’ll be referencing this) for better clarity and more useful formatting are welcome. Otherwise I’ll continue this format.

@ Mavimao

Don’t know if you’ve logged all your match-edits, but does it look like I’m catching what you’ve already found so far? (And if you have a log of matches, would you post them here? I’m using both frame-counts and SMPTE, so in either format is workable.)

Crap, haven’t seen this until now.

I have not logged my edits and in any case it would be slightly off since it’s synced to the laserdisc version. iMovie is pretty dumb and can’t even display timecode. If I get time, I can watch it and see where there were missing frames.

Assuming that you have downloaded the torrent already, that sound mix that you are asking can be found in this file:

English [eng] (dts-hd ma, 48000Hz, mono).dts

The 8 files that I mentioned above were copied from the audio stream of Harmy’s Empire Strikes Back Despecialized Edition, MKV container, so, the mono mix of the 1980 16mm version is in there.

It’s compressed though. He’s wanting the lossless file. I have it if you want but the sound isn’t any better. The source is very low fidelity so the garbage doesn’t get better with more bits.

EDIT: wait nevermind, if it’s DTS-HD then it’s lossless.

Maybe you can convince Superman to wear it then since you love them so much!

Let down at the source again tonight, guys. Sorry!

Edit: Spoke too soon!

68-71

292 animals. Things are getting real now! Everything’s falling apart!

This scene in the book is one of my favourites aside from the part where they start getting it all back together and then… well, book people know. I’m a bit sad that they didn’t take some time to talk a bit more about the tracking system and how it worked before the tour.

It’s a nice way to show the dinos breeding but it seems odd that the designers of the park didn’t know that there was a set limit for the tracker. I mean every time they bred a new animal and set it free, SOMEone would have to update the number…

“collars” is a reference to a certain poster from a few years back, who used to ask when the “collars” on ESB would be fixed. Draw your own conclusions from that. 😉

Thank you for explaining the joke. I thought it was pretty obvious it was a joke seeing as it’s b/w. I even threw in discovision to seal the ridiculousness.

Wahoo! I found the solution to the subtitle problem: Convert the srt from 23.976fps to 24fps in Jubler, then use Lemony to create the BDN. Edit the XML to set the framerate back to 23.976 and import as non-drop. Then subs remain in sync to the end. Rinse and repeat for all languages. We’re back in business people!

Throw it in a pot, add some broth, a potato… baby you got a stew going!

Yes, that’s fine, but I’d like to focus on my acting Mr. Weathers. I did give you my last $1,100…

Yeah, that’s straight out of the novel, in fact, this script follows the novel fairly closely. The book actually starts up quite slow with the nurse in Costa Rica and the Tina incident. You don’t actually meet any of the main characters (with the possible exception of Ed Regis) until a few chapters in.

Yeah I read the book shortly after seeing the film way back when but I don’t rememeber the particularities of the story.

I think this type of story telling works well in books because you can have your plot simmer and slowly come to a boil whereas in films, you need to use your time wisely.

Comparing this script with the final film shows the filmmakers understood this and changed things around to make it flow better.

I’m using the 16mm scan as a base and aligning the 35mm to it. One problem I came across is the 16mm has duplicate frames here and there. I’ll check out the full-sized (I work reduced-sized for reduced-lagged) to see if the frame code increments on the dup’ed frame, too. And as you mentioned, the 35mm has groups of frames missing … just to make things more fun. 😃

BTW, what software are you using?

I just used the latest version of iMovie. Not the greatest tool but it got the work done.
