Has anyone Read the Book The Secret History of Star Wars by Michael Kaminski?
Time

A very revealing and factual book.

From the book section of the An Index & Help Thread for ‘The Expanded Universe’ section…

Michael is/was an OT member here, and you can find more of his stuff on here in threads on his book. Seems a cool guy:

The Secret History Of Star Wars - by Michael Kaminski (OriginalTrilogy•com member zombie84)

^ essential reading on the actual revision-free history of Star Wars - and not the retconned official version from George & Lucasfilm.

The Secret History of Star Wars thread on the book - by zombie84 (2007 thread)

The Secret History of Star Wars - now available in print - by zombie84 (2008 thread)

The Secret History of Star Wars Audiobook - by ryanvb (2014 thread)

• zombie84’s ‘Secret History of Star Wars’ website (kindly re-hosted by none) - for intriguing information about the book.

• zombie84’s ‘Saving Star Wars’ website - for general information on the history and suppression of the theatrical version of the Original Trilogy films, the debunking of George’s many retcons & claims, and also covers the Special Edition changes. As of Sept 2011.

Some of his work from the Secret History of Star Wars and the Saving Star Wars website are also in these pinned OT threads:

An OriginalTrilogy.com Timeline | a history of the site | the why & how it came to be…

George Lucas: Star Wars Creator, Unreliable Narrator & Time Travelling Revisionist…

I remember him and and many others getting banned from TFn for just simply talking about the OOT, and George rewriting Star Wars history, back in early or mid 2000’s. TFn mods and members just couldn’t handle it and the mods started purging OOT fans from there, and also people correcting or highlighting George’s new bullshit “masterplan” history. Many ended up on here and other similar websites. There is more on that in An Index & Help Thread for Original Trilogy Discussion.

I love the book and will have to read it again soon. I hoped for a long time that he may do a documentary or video series on it, but I doubt it would happen now. People seems to lap up and worship videos more than books in the past few years.

What do you think of the book MinchD36?

<strong>The Bad Batch</strong> (animated series) - a general discussion thread
Time

I didn’t realise there were two episodes this week. Both were a welcome return to some quality and interesting story telling that some of the previous episodes this season have been lacking.

Spoilers:

Good to see the Emperor voiced by McDiarmid! And to see the Emperor on step ahead of everyone. Though I thought Echo leaving the Bad Batch was rushed and over a bit quick. If they are going to develop Tech as a character instead then okay, but given the recent focus on the treatment of the Clones, their service, and the future, that he would have been a focal point for that.

One I didn’t understand is that I thought Bad Batch were meant to be keeping Omega a secret? Not letting her wonder around the Senate in full view of everyone, and likely be caught on the Senate media version of C-Span for everyone in the galaxy to see? Maybe they will address that in a future episode?

Original Trilogy <strong>news &amp; articles</strong> thread: online write-ups on the OT films, cast and crew
Time

From December 2022:

Richard Miller Dies: Sculptor Behind Princess Leia’s Gold Bikini Was 80 at Deadline

'Richard Miller, the Industrial Light and Magic sculptor that helped create Princess Leia’s gold bikini costume for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, died December 8. He was 80.

Miller’s close friend and colleague Fon H. Davis confirmed the news in an Instagram post.

“I am heartbroken to hear my friend, colleague and incredibly talented sculptor, Richard Miller has passed away,” he captioned. “I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work, laugh, and be grumpy, at times, with him. I really appreciate having this picture Marrianne Heath sent me last Christmas. That’s the smile I like to remember. I also miss Grant very much today. We would have gotten together to remember Richard. Hug your friends today.”

Almost a year ago, Miller had taken to Twitter to share a tidbit from the Princess Leia bikini saying, “I sculpted the Princess Leia bikini back in 1981 for Return of the Jedi. Fun fact: It was quite uncomfortable on Carrie so I glued leather to the interior so she could move around more freely.”’

Forgotten Artist Marilee Heyer Discusses Working on Star Wars: Return of the Jedi at IGN

'Marilee Heyer helped design Princess Leia’s iconic bikini in Return of the Jedi… but she’s still fighting for recognition 40 years later.

During an interview with SFGate, the artist and illustrator explained her struggle for recognition after being left out of numerous books and exhibits about the legendary costume.

“I would like to be remembered if this is my legacy,” she explained. “If this is what I’m most noted for, I want to make sure I’m getting credited when I’m no longer around. I view my artwork like my children. You have to be able to send them out and give them the tools they need to fight.”’

Nice thread!

Harrison Ford’s Star Wars gun blasts record as it sells for over $1 million at Guinness World Records

'A blaster gun used by Han Solo in the original Star Wars trilogy has made its way into the record books as the most expensive prop gun sold at auction.

The BlasTech DL-44 Heavy Blaster, made for Harrison Ford’s character, was picked up at auction for a whopping $1,057,500 (£904,342).

Sold at Rock Island Auctions, in Illinois, USA, the gun was the only survivor of the three original props made for A New Hope in 1976.

It’s one of the three “hero props” – meaning it was a high-detail master version used for close-up shots and publicity images - made by London props house Bapty.

The basic components of the gun were chosen by Star Wars set director Roger Christian and were assembled by armourer Carl Schmidt.’

Also, if you’re so against the preservation of the OT, why the hell are you even here? Are you simply a troll? Well, given that your join date was 2007 and you waited 15 years to post something, I’m not entirely sure.

Like shingles, trolls can stay dormant in the body for decades before activating.

😃

The whole thread is trolling. The intent of it, the content. the attitude. Even the mention of “Red Letter Morons”! The “no responses about the video I posted? Then I win” attempt at baiting.

A 4 hour video from Rick Worley, promoted by George worshipers, and lecturing others on how to watch Star Wars. Like JadedSkywalker said, a bad faith argument.

He is here to troll. More will be here soon, like that new Ejn troll who is also from the same narrow and angry mindset.

That is a lot of mindless corporate speak from EA to say “Sorry, it’ll be late by 6 weeks!”

Some fans have updated Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2, with a couple of playable levels:

Fan-Made Star Wars Jedi Knight Remake Is Now Playable After Three Years Of Development from GameSpot

There is a 1 minute video of the playable levels here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT2rEgeCJCE

It does look cool, I hope it plays as well as it looks.

Maybe Vader thought Kenobi had tried spinning just before striking him down? Vader does believe that to be a good trick!

He definitely already knew that

Ha! Obi-Wan was just mocking Vader with that “move” all this time.

A '<strong>Rumour and News</strong>' thread for reported new Star Wars films and tv series

Ah, a bit disappointing. Though it is good to read Daisy would be open to appearing in Star Wars again sometime:

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/daisy-ridley-talks-star-wars-future-indie-film-1235315782/

'Naturally, Star Wars rumors continue to swirl around Ridley, and they likely always will as fans hope to see more of her beloved Jedi, Rey. THR previously reported that Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson are writing a post-Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker story for Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy to direct, so the question remains if Ridley/Rey will have a role in the stand-alone installment.

As of this moment, Ridley insists she knows nothing about what’s to come.

“I really don’t know if there are plans. I just don’t know,” Ridley says. “But ultimately, I loved my experience, I loved what I got to do and I love the people I got to work with. So, should that happen again, even once, amazing.”’

I hope that does happen one day. For me, there was nothing wrong with any of the actors in the Sequel films, and I’d happily watch them in any future Sequel era project we get.

The Vader vs Obi Wan duel in Star Wars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_V8oM4hXA58 - at 2 minutes and 28 seconds

What was Vader expecting to find when he was stepping on Obi Wan’s cloak after he had struck Kenobi down?

Some pocket sand? A hole in the floor where Obi Wan had disappeared down? A note with the message “look behind you, the Rebels, the Princess and the two familiar droids are escaping, and you’re still standing here stomping on my cloak”?

Or something else?

Thanks guys. I enjoyed the Rebel Scum fan film, and memories of the Jedi Knight game came back to me as soon as I found a YouTube walkthrough on the level! I’ll keep an eye out for #78 comic as well.

I did a bit of looking around myself on the books and found there are a few Hoth and post-Hoth battle stories in the “Certain Point Of View” book for ESB, and I’ll get a copy of that soon too. Thanks again.

“Fine, I’ll do it myself.”

Where is the “Well, we’re waiting” meme when you need it? 😉

It is Celebration 2023 soon, and also the 40th anniversary of ROTJ so there should be a 40th Panel there with some higher ups or people who worked on the film. It would be good to see this question answered by Kathleen Kennedy or the oldROTJ crew on a live stream or in the media interview lines afterwards.

This could almost fit into the small details thread, but I don’t think it’s particularly obscure.

I wonder why they (Kershner?) decided it was so important to make sure Lando demonstrated proper safety protocols by wearing a safety harness & clipping in when getting onto the Falcon’s roof and grabbing Luke under Cloud City. It’s also such a shame any shots of Lando actually on the roof of the Falcon grabbing Luke were cut.

That was strange. Were the film companies at the time doing some “safety” promo work for the government around that time? Obi-Wan and Luke were shown to to belt up in the Falcon in Star Wars too. I think there was an anti-smoking advert with threepio and R2 around the time as well?

And the old joke about Ewoks having handrails everywhere in ROTJ, so they were actually more advanced than the Empire!

<strong>The Empire Strikes Back</strong> - a general <strong>Random Thoughts</strong> thread

As a kid I used to often wonder what happened to any of the rebel soldiers left behind on Hoth. The ones out in the battle vs the walkers that the Empire didn’t or couldn’t find, or hiding in the base, or out on patrol elsewhere. And who didn’t have a rebel transport or ship to leave the planet sometime later.

Anyone know of any good EU/Legends or fan stories on this?

I love these speeches in Andor. Originally from the Andor thread:-

I never thought we’d see lines of dialogue delivered in such a great manner again in Star Wars. The four main monologues now up on the official Star Wars channel are a joy to watch and listen to. Just four among many of the strong acting performances and high standards of writing and character interactions throughout the series:

A '<strong>Rumour and News</strong>' thread for reported new Star Wars films and tv series

Brian Davids of The Hollywood Reporter tweeted this earlier: https://twitter.com/pickyourbrian/status/1619149959500288001

Some have then started guessing games: “Unfounded prediction: Daisy Ridley will appear on stage at Star Wars Celebration London as they announce the next Star Wars movie will feature Rey. It will be the Lindelof film and it will be released in 2025. They will be in London because production will start in April ‘23.” - https://twitter.com/ATGcast/status/1617519242257260545

There is Probably nothing in it, but if there are to be new films set just after the Sequel Trilogy it would make sense for some of the main ST characters to cameo, or play guest parts in them?
