I can see where you guys are coming from but I care about these characters too much to not to want to see where they go and what new ways the story can be expanded that was crafted in Season 1. And that’s not even factoring in the hints and outright setting up of plot lines that’s in the last couple of episodes. If they had this be the end I would feel as if they discarded the opportunity to do so much more with the characters.

Stranger Things:

Man oh man oh man oh man OH MAN this show is amazing. This show gets everything right in my opinion from the plot which was not only emotional but also had me constantly enthralled. The mystery of what the fuck is going on evolved in ways that I didn’t anticipate and at speeds I didn’t anticipate and when all is known the revelation is not only terrifying but also creative. Other things I must praise are the characters and the acting both of which is fantastic across the board. The chemistry between the main group and the wild card is great and I found the arc Lucas went through to be particularly satisfactory and I’m looking forward to his interactions with a certain member of the party. Another thing is that I found I could relate to and sympathize for every one of the main characters and in general found a great deal of them to be interesting, layered, flawed and I can’t wait to see more of these people. Hopper and LL especially. The actors from adults to child actors all did a great job as well; this show reminded me that kids are actually capable of being good actors. All and all this is a really stellar show.

9/10

I can understand there’s logic to questioning Disney’s megalithic Total Franchise approach to SW. Especially since franchisation often imposes requirements that are directly counterpoised to good storytelling in movies.

But citing Avatar as a reason to claim that SW is no longer relevant?? People didn’t go to that film for the story, they went to see if the 3D was any good. And then in six months’ time they had largely forgotten it. Hardly an example of a “cultural force”.

after a few months people went back to talking about The Dark Knight. That’s how irrelevant that movie became.

the TCW episode with Darth Bane created an even bigger problem by making Bane a generic Sith. I would prefer a character who is compelling than one who looked cool.

Not everyone shares your opinion that TCW Bane is “a generic Sith” or “not compelling” or that it’s a “problem”.

Can you please list the distinct personality traits, aspirations, and philosophy of the TCW Darth Bane? You can’t because he has no depth and there’s nothing to really build upon because the foundation of the canon Bane is hallow.

Just because we don’t know information doensn’t mean that it doesn’t have the potential to be interesting.

Technically yes you’re right but it would create a disconnect to what Bane was in life and the apparition that spoke to Yoda on Korriban. I think they should have had him act like the Darth Bane in the Drew Karpyshyn books and changed the look to the Samurai inspired armor that’s in the show.

And I can tell you that TCW Bane believes in only training one apprentice so that his apprentices don’t gang up on him.

That’s the template for a character and pretty much what we got in terms of who the TCW Bane is a template for a Sith. Arrogant as hell, caring too much about people fearing him, stroking his ego about his accomplishments etc. If you took a random Sith mob from Knights of The Old Republic and it’s sequel and dressed them up in the same armor their personalities would be indistinguishable.

I’m pretty young too, but I would still advise against doing things like that. Unless he did something to deserve it, that is, but your phrasing suggests you just found a Russian and cursed him unprovoked.

He didn’t do anything to me personally but he did start a minor spat with one of my co workers and that’s when I yelled it out. Plus I wasn’t doing it to really hurt his feelings; I was just messing around.

EDIT:

Could be worse…could be Heineken.

I just almost got into a fight with some Russian guy for yelling “cyka blyat” at him. I’m so glad I’m young enough to do stupid things like that because it was so worth it.

May you be drowned in borscht and your head pickled in vodka, you capitalist pig.

That’s one hell of a way to go out. At least part of me will be preserved in something I love.

Video Games - a general discussion thread

I had my reservations about another gimmicky console but this won me over. Here are some random thoughts.

  • I’m glad we get a regular controller again when playing on a TV

  • I’m glad that Nintendo is seamlessly merging console and handheld gaming, the screen is big and it’s resting place is on the console itself

  • I’m very glad that this system seems to be getting a lot of 3rd party support out of the gate which means if the console sells well even more developers will try to get in on the action.

  • I’m hoping that this console will be able to run most if not all games at 1080p and 60 fps

  • I don’t like the mini controller thing since it’s reminiscent of the shoddy way one could use a Wiimote like a NES controller

  • I think the D-pad is terrible; I don’t think Nintendo has made a controller with a good D-pad since the SNES.
