Rogue One * Spoilers * Thread
Time

Finished Rogue One about an hour ago and I liked this movie a lot more than I did the first time. I can’t really go into detail about this movie after two viewings so here are things I liked and didn’t like about the film

Good:

 • Top notch cinematography

 • The plot and small things like the Cassian killing Galen thing

 • Force abilties are only used in one scene

 • Ties in perfectly with STAR WARS

 • Fun and energetic (especially the 3rd act)

 • Mostly amazing CGI

 • Funnier than expected

 • Vader was used sparringly and effectively (though this comes at a price)

 • New and interesting ship and Trooper designs

 • Felt like a war movie/grittier side of the Galactic Civil War

 • Director Krennic was an interesting villain and got a very just death

Bad:

 • 1st act was kind of disjointed

 • Most of the Rogue One crew lack real depth

 • CGI Leia and Tarkin

 • Vader should have had Tarkin’s role

 • Soundtrack is uninspired and hardly has any noteworthy moments

 • The effects of the reshoots is very apparent as there are a few lines that were in the trailer but were not in the film. The most important one being Krennic calling the Death’s Star’s power immeasurable.

All in all this a great film and will be accompanying any Star Wars marathon I have.

8/10

Rogue One isn’t a movie about characters, it is a movie about the state of the galaxy and how that affects the characters living in it, and to that end, I feel like the characters were kinda meant to blend into the backdrop a bit, because the real characters of the film are the Rebellion and the Empire. It’s just not a character film, and I don’t think it was meant to be one.

I don’t feel like the character writing was especially weak: was Han any more developed at the end of Star Wars than Cassian? Ignore Empire and Jedi and Awakens. Leaving the theater, I felt like I knew each character’s archetype and story as much as I do at the end of Star Wars. And I felt the story writing was very strong and all worked and made sense.

I’m going to have to get back to you on this one…

Have to see it again before really rendering judgement but my first impressions is that Rogue One is a fine addition to the series. Going to see it again at 12 today and I couldn’t be happier.

EDIT:

I want to add that it was really hot for some reason in the theater and it did lessen the experience. Shame on you AMC for having me pay so much money to be uncomfortable while watching a movie.

I understand how you feel because when I was a baby smoker I mostly got high to escape my dismal reality and to make the rare good things I experienced all the better. After a while I discovered that it was but a temporary solution and when I went back to being sober I suffered because I didn’t attack the main source of the issue.

As for your current issue I would just try to get stronger weed. It’s seems like a rather simple solution but it’s solved a lot of problems for me.

I am going to get really fucking high tomorrow. It’s been a very arduous week and I am going to absolutely ruin myself before going to see Rogue One. And I’m going to wake up on Saturday and ruin myself again for my 12pm viewing. I deserve it.

High on what?

Just weed as my experimentation days have long since passed. I have a couple of blunts and a couple of pre packed bowls waiting for me for when I get home and if that doesn’t do the trick I got at least 8 grams on standby. I’m ready.

I wouldn’t trust Kevin Smith farther than I could throw him.

You’re wrong for that lol

No I’d say he’s about right.

In a sense but he is inherently wrong because he suggested that he could throw Kevin Smith knowing damn well that’s a multiple man/machine job.

Kevin Smith has always come off to me as a thirteen-year-old boy trapped in a man’s body, and not in a good way.

I can’t really think of a way that one could contort that sentence to seem like a compliment. If you can feel free to prove me wrong.

What Makes A "Real" Star Wars Fan?
Time

I think it depends on how you define “Star Wars”

A lot people see it as just the OT while others of course see the entirety of the saga (and/or the EU) as being Star Wars. Personally I think Star Wars is much bigger than the films but as long as one likes a couple of the films and has a decent foundation of knowledge about the series I don’t see how they couldn’t be a “real” fan.
