The droid could be fixed with a physical model and a composite of the flipped bandolier could be done but it would take more time.

There is an argument to be made to get on with the release and if Ady found a moment of free time and enough thrill in the challenge while doing the other edits to really go to town on these minor details, releasing a final-final fancier pants version sometime in the future.

I personally find flip shots so distracting it would be worth the effort at sometime but maybe not this time.

Not trying to be rude, but who the hell cares? This is the smallest of problems in comparison to the train-wreck that is the Battle of Hoth (editing wise of course), The asteroid field, Cloud City skyline and buildings and Yoda lip syncing and Ady has fixed all of these imperative problems. So why even have a discussion about something so trivial?

You aren't being at all rude.

The reason I'm continuing with this point raised by others is that like the number of guns in the rack on the Death Star security room or which side of Slave One is pointing at the camera it's a continuity/compositional issue. If those are worth fixing this is worth fixing also and vice versa.

I hate continuity errors as much as the next SW fan, but this one is something I haven't noticed even though I've watched ESB far more times than most people would deem normal. I just wouldn't want something people barely notice to take up the time Ady could be using to fix the problems that still persist which are of more significance.

Some buildings? Actually it's all of them, including the same clouds because they used the exact same matte for both platforms, so it is a flaw:

Obvious trolling is obvious. It didn't dignify a response.

Hmm.. I like the original cityscape and sky better. First, Slave I going up into a bluer sky illustrates better that it is heading towards Space. Second, I prefer McQuarries architecture better. Maybe by the end of the year. Or the next.

It really shows how bad of a job they did editing this film seeing as how it's taking so long for Ady to fix all these errors. Oh well. ESB Despecialized 2.0 will hold me over until then.

They probably took a great deal of care but errors happen in all movies, with no relationship between the amount of errrors, to how great the film is. It's just that we watch these 3 movies a hundred times more often than other films, so we spot more. People are employed on film crews with the sole job of trying to minimise these errors.

That is true, but this project was started 6 years ago...I'm just saying it's sad that a fan is doing better at editing a film than people in the industry.

Ray,

it is my understanding that the crushed blacks are unfixable using the blue ray as the source. See hamy's making the despecialized Star Wars Youtube to see why. The detail in the black areas is just gone. ANH:R suffers the same problem.

however as ady has shown with the restored cockpit shots, he has access to a HD film scan of ESB. Therefore from that source the information lost in the crushed blacks is still present. A lot of work to restore.... But it could theoretically be done.

matt

Harmy's editions are why I'm askin'. The detail restored in his SW:DE is absolutely amazing. I'd love to see the same done to the Revisited projects if possible. In fact, it's probably what I'd be most excited about.
But, if it's not doable, it's not.

Except for the low res Vader eyebrows lol

Vader doesn't have eyebrows in Star Wars and Harmy hasn't restored the crushed blacks in the other two films, so that's not what I'm talking about.
Also, Harmy's first efforts at repairing Anikin's eyebrows in his edition of ROTJ is very much appreciated.

I'm not saying to really critique him, but it was more of a joke hence the "lol"

Why so defensive?

Your post seemed very dismissive and mocking of Harmy's efforts. I worship his work and won't have it slandered.
; )

Well let me dismiss these allegations here and now; Harmy's edits or the OT are the kitty's titties.

If Lucas was going to nitpick the framing of shots 17 years later, maybe he shouldn't have hired a director and just done it himself to begin with. That's disrespectful to Kershner's original vision of the film HE directed.

 Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

You say that as if it's a bad thing. If the world lived by the Sith Code the world would be an exponentially better place.

I think the real question here shouldn't be about framing, 4th wall, etc.  The real question should be, is anyone honestly going to enjoy the film any LESS because of the change?

Thank you! I love how trivial debates like this get so heated, but ideas to strengthen the narrative gets ignored.

I don't see much reason for this since he had underestimated Luke by assuming that pushing him into the carbon freezer would be enough to defeat him when he showed himself, by jumping out in time, to be in tune with his surroundings, which is why during the rest of their duel he didn't hold back as he did before

Darth Vader was toying with Luke up until he struck from the shadows. With more of Luke's skills on display, the "Impressive" line makes more sense.

And don't forget about the "Obi-Wan has taught you well." being more significant if removed from ESB due to Luke's skill coming full circle.

After watching ESB for the umpteenth time I got an idea to change some of the dialogue in the Luke vs Vader scene. I always felt Vader saying "Impressive....most impressive." after Luke jumped out of the Carbonite chamber to be very odd seeing as how he has barely proven himself in that duel up to that point. So I propose this: after Luke blinds Vader with the steam, grabs hit light saber and defends himself against Vader's attack then Vader should say "Impressive. Now release your anger. Only your hatred can destroy me."

This does 2 things; making this change will give more context to the "Obi-Wan has taught you well." line used in ROTJ seeing as at that point Luke's skills had exponentially increased since their duel on Bespin. Also this makes the "Impressive." line more weight seeing as how Luke has done alot more than jump out of the Carbonite chamber and climb up a few inches.

Thoughts?
