Many will disagree about ranking AOTC over TPM. But AOTC actually contained some stuff that were the reasons I wanted to see the prequels, like a big ass Jedi/Clone battle. Where as even though TPM is a much better made movie overall (Still sh*t though) it has Jar Jar (and to a lesser extent little Annie) in it for most of the running time. He’s the most irritating character in the history of mainstream movies and it’s difficult to “enjoy” anything else about that movie as a result. If a highly skilled faneditor/FX-artist ever digitally erased Jar Jar from every single pixel of TPM, then sure I’d probablly rank it as the “least worst” prequel. But so far (To my knowledge) they haven’t yet, so it’ll stay bottom for me.

At least AOTC has Kenobi in it for more than 5 minutes and he does things that significantly effect the plot. At least the villain has more than 4 lines (With Christopher Lee’s voice) and does things that significantly effect the plot. The final LS duel actually has some emotion behind it, despite also being almost totally cr*p. At least they got rid of the botched puppet Yoda. Sadly with a CGI Yoda but you can tell the FX-artists really tried.

What do you seek to accomplish with this?

opinions you don’t agree with aren’t bait

You think ROTJ > ESB and ANH? That’s fine. Think AOTC is less smelly of a turd in comparison to TPM? I’m okay with that. But to express those opinions in conjunction with that even adhering to TFA leaves me to believe that this post was engineered for guaranteed replies.

ROTS is much more emotionally authentic than TFA.

The shot with all the markings on the wall that show how long Rey has been on Jakku hit me harder than anything in ROTS. That should say quite a bit.

That should say quite a bit about you if that scene “hit you”.

I didn’t say it made me ball my eyes out. I said it effected me. In that moment I instantly felt an emotional connection with her and I felt sorry for her situation as if I put her there. But that wouldn’t mean anything to someone like you.

Yes, I guess I am too sophisticated to be affected by such trivial stuff.

If sophisticated is the word you want to use then by all means.

People have already speculated how Han may make an appearance in a flash-back, a hologram, or even as a Force ghost (the last one I personally don’t buy)

Or in a hallucination. Kylo Ren is mentally unstable.

It could also be a Force related thing as well, kinda like Luke’s “vision” of Vader on Dagobah.

As long as it’s just an illusion and not a ghost I’ll be cool. If Han is to appear in Episode VIII I’d rather it either be in flashback form, a hologram message to Leia and/or Chewie or a hallucination. I want for his deteriorating mental state to play a part in his overall arc. In general I hope he’s kept a layered character and not bogged down due to impatient people bitching about him so much.

The ep. VIII script has already been described as being “weird” so it’s not impossible.

Star Wars is a weird franchise and I’ve heard that something that has never been done in Star Wars is happening in this film so anything is possible.

If this is the case I really hope Johnson does something really dark and surreal.

John Boyega said that Episode VIII would be darker.

I just remembered something else that tug at my heart strings way more than anything else in ROTS…On the 10th I saw TFA for the 4th time and when Han touched Ben’s face after getting stabbed I nearly started weeping. The first 3 viewings of the scene left me relatively unaffected but for some reason I got a concentrated dose of feels I hadn’t gotten in a Star Wars film since the Vader death scene.

But the Anakin/Padmé relationship itself isn’t earned. There’s no reason why Padmé should fall in love with Anakin (and several very good ones why she shouldn’t). George just keeps telling us that they’re in love throughout Clones, and by the time we get to the heavy stuff in Sith we’re just more willing to roll with it because it’s obvious that this is what we’re getting one way or another.

I actually think that the AOTC romance is the most authentic and unguarded romance in cinema, so take my opinions with a pound of salt.

I haven’t read the rest of the thread yet, but I just spit Diet Coke all over my monitor.

That in Darth Bane: Path of Destruction, Bane causes the very thing that his character revolves around preventing: the extinction of the Sith through infighting.

The Brotherhood of Darkness needed to be purged because they followed Lord Kaan and his asinine beliefs of equality among the Sith. So Bane destroyed them so he could rebuild the Sith Order under The Rule of Two

Lord Haseo. Your sad devotion to that ancient canon hasn’t helped you predict VIII or given you clairvoyance enough to predict IX.

Bullshit. I’ll castrate myself with a butterknife if Snoke isn’t Plagueis. I’m that damn sure.

When I heard this I knew the spirit of Star Wars had made it’s resurgence.

See, that part sounded a little too ROTS-y for me. I really don’t like that DUNDUNDUNDUNNAH-DUNDUN! horn thing that happens there and is all over the Sith score. Soundtrack opinions seem to be way more diverse than I ever imagined.

If it makes you feel any better I really only posted that for 2:04 - 2:10

TFA has at least five themes that have been stuck in my head for more than a month now (“Rey’s Theme”, “March of the Resistance”, “The Jedi Steps”, and Kylo’s two motifs). I really can’t understand why so many people are rating this score so poorly.

If anything the music should stick with you.

Speaking of music, that was one of TFA’s biggest issues. The music never evoked any emotion save for the scene when Rey is sliding down the sand dune. there were a few ok tracks, but JJ choked the soundtrack. it was poorly edited into the movie. the movie is just too hyper for a JW score.

On the other hand, ROTS had possibly the best of the 7 SW scores.

There’s no way I can really disagree with this

You keep bringing up fanedits. I’m talking about the theatrical (not BD) films.

The only reason being is that is the only medium in which that romance makes any sort of sense.

Who the hell are you thinking of with better chemistry than those two? They were goddamn great together. R2-D2 and C-3PO are the only ones I can think of in the same league.

Ciena and Thane Kyrell…but to be fair I have only read Lost Stars once

Especially after how creepy Anakin is. I guess George expected us to be okay with a relationship without virtually any chemistry just because both parties are attractive.

Han and Leia may not have the best chemistry I’ve seen/read in Star Wars but at least they make sense together.

I mean…I can get kind of emotional when I watch LOE v1…but then again I actually care about Anakin a bit when I watch PT fanedits.

I saw TFA a couple weeks ago and i’ve already forgotten this “markings on the wall” scene you’re talking about.

Ok…

The ROTS jappor snippet shot has stayed with me since I first saw it in theaters.

If anything the music should stick with you. John Williams could evoke more emotion more efficiently than anything that was happening on screen. Plus Padme’s death was absolutely horrible so if there’s anything I would be feeling it would be rage because Lucas didn’t give a single shit about the OT when he had her “Give up on life”. I mean it’s something I would expect in Twilight or something.

1 and 2 don’t need an explanation, it’s pretty much a consensus. I’ve seen TFA twice now and I enjoyed it much more the second time. I rewatched RotJ and while I still love it, I have to admit that I think TFA is a better movie. Despite the similarities to ANH that have been discussed over and over again, I think it breathes new life into the franchise and has been the most engaging movie since Empire*.

All of the prequels are turds, but RotS is the most polished turd.

Deja vu.

Go back to 4chan.

Thinks ROTS is better than TFA and ANH

Not much solid info here, but some of it was kind of interesting;
http://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/2016/01/the-rumored-cast-of-star-wars-episode-viii.html

Apart from Trevorrow confirming that both Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher will be in ep. IX, plus the already discussed re-appearance of Harrison Ford, it seems that Max Von Sydow might return as well.

If so that confirms that full fledged flashbacks will be used as a story device in further movies. In my opinion it’s something Star Wars needs.

People have already speculated how Han may make an appearance in a flash-back, a hologram, or even as a Force ghost (the last one I personally don’t buy)

“Darth Andeddu” and “Darth Kruhl”

If you mean him seeking out Andeddu’s Holocron in Dynasty of Evil he had to do that because Zannah hadn’t challenged him even though he waited years and his body was starting to go on the decline. Mostly due to the Dark Side degradation and even so he was still fast enough to dodge every rain drop in a 10 minute thunderstorm.
