How anyone can find the good in any of the prequels is discombobulating

There are good things about them…they’re just few and very far between.

I’ve heard that for years, but just can’t see any truth in it.

The Soundtracks

A couple of the lightsaber duels

Worlds like Naboo, Coruscant and Kamino are beautiful and make the universe feel much larger than it is in the OT

More diversity among sentients. Yes quite a few of the Aliens are stupid but the OUT had the Wolfman so…

Ewan Mcgregor and Ian Mcdiarmid pretty good given that most of their material is meh

I’m sure I could conjure up a few more things but you get the drift.

Even bad movies are made by professionals. It would be quite presumptions to claim that absolutely everything about a movie is bad. And there does exist far worse films than the PT trilogy out there.

Star Wars fans need to look at IHE’s Search For The Worst to see genuinely terrible movies actually are. Birdemic and the like are far more abhorrent than the PT could ever be.

I think you hate TFA almost as much as I used to hate Stargate SG-1. Thankfully, I grew out of my less-than-rational loathing; it was mentally tasking and utterly unworthy of the effort.

I don’t hate it, I just don’t like it. It’s a crap film. I watched American Sniper last night, now that’s a good film.

Are you Reti4? That would explain everything

There’s a small possibility they recreated the scene for the sake of the teaser.

I think it’s more likely that that’ll be an actual scene to appease the fans who were pissed at Luke not saying anything.

Enough things could be happening elsewhere with the Republic in ruins to pad out the opening crawl.

That’s true but if there’s a time jump I’m not entirely sure how the crawl will fit in.

The ENTIRE crawl is about finding Luke. The ENTIRE thing.

And most things people do in this film revolves around finding the map to Luke.

5 minutes into ESB, Han says he must leave because Bounty Hunters are after him.

and it isn’t brought up again until Vader hires a gang of them later in the film. That’s because it was a side story initially but it ended up effecting the main story line of the film.

And we’re back to nostalgia being a bad thing again? Why else make sequels to a nearly forty year old movie in the first place?

Because there is more to tell of the story? The search for Luke is the McGuffin that drives the story of Rey’s journey towards the Force.

Why would the movie not do something that pleases fans? Some of us old geezers have waited 32 years for that moment. Seeing Luke again was the emotional payoff.

It was a payoff because it was nostalgia.

And because it was a natural end to the story the film presented. Also why can’t it be both? Why can’t we live in a world where there are multiple reasons for something existing?

I just disagree. I don’t think it is the natural end to the story. I guess it comes from your perspective on who the story is about. To me, the story is about Rey.

Having the first line in the crawl be “LUKE SKYWALKER HAS VANISHED” in conjunction with the map to him being the mcguffin leads me to believe the plot is centered around him. Just because Rey is our main protagonist doesn’t mean the film is mainly about her.

The film would have been much better if they had cut to credits as Rey makes the jump to lightspeed.

How? The entire movie would have felt like a waste if we didn’t see Luke. Secondly, the scene wasn’t even that long so I’m confused as to how such a brief scene effects the rest of film.

It is about the search for Luke Skywalker. Nothing says they have to actually meet Luke Skywalker once they discover where he is.

Traveling to meet him the climax of the story. The story would be incomplete without it.

They have an entire trilogy to flesh out that storyline.

There are many other things that needs to be fleshed out that having Rey find Luke in Episode VIII would divert time away from an aspect of the film that actually needs to be developed. Also why create another needless parallel to the OT?

It would be like ending ESB with the entire gang landing on Tatooine and walking up to Jabba’s palace.

No it wouldn’t because they’re still in the midst of fighting a war.

The staircase with twirling helicopter shot felt so out of place.

I agree on that. There’s no other type of shot like that in the film. It’s pretty jarring really

Ep 8 is what will make or break this trilogy.

Absolutely. TFA in my opinion did a fantastic job of developing these characters (even though Poe wasn’t developed as much as Rey, Finn and Kylo Ren) and making us care about them now it is time to let these characters stand on their own legs by bringing them into new and unexpected story lines that will shape the rest of the Saga. We also need answers to at least some of the questions TFA left us with. Why does Rey have such a strong affinity for the Force? Has Kylo fully embraced the Dark Side or is he still feeling a pull to the light? Who is Snoke and what are his aspirations? What has Luke been doing all this time (and “nothing” is not acceptable)? What is the state of the galaxy after the destruction of the Hosnian System?..and most importantly for me who exactly are the Knights of Ren? The apparent darker tone bodes well so long as the film doesn’t get consumed by trying to be dark rather than telling a compelling story.

I actually think AOTC is reasonably paced. The open is a bit slow, but then you have the city chase, then Ani and Obi are split up and it cuts between their story-lines, then they come back together for the action at the end.

Too bad pace is the very least of that movie’s problems.

AOTC starts off with a bang…literally. And after the chase scene is when they tried to develop the love story a bit and nothing interesting happens until Anakin goes to find his mom. Even as it pertains to Obi-Wan his story doesn’t get interesting until his fight with Jango Fett…then the rest of the movie happens. In between these scenes we of course got people talking about…stuff and hardly any of it furthered the plot. The best example is the scene where Obi-Wan, Mace and Yoda are talking about Anakin being arrogant when it was already established in the chase scene that Anakin was full of himself. Also most of the action in AOTC was ass to me; especially the lightsaber duels whereas ROTS had multiple entertaining moments of action throughout it’s runtime. Of course stuff like the duel with Grevious was terrible but it’s not as bad as Yoda’s fight with Dooku.
