It’s a very simple explanation – Mon Mothma has assumed the leadership role of the Rebel Alliance sometime between TESB and ROTJ.

I wonder why that was never mentioned…I mean you would think if that’s the case that Han would be like “Who’s this chick?” but it’s never explained in the film. That’s sloppy writing pal.

For the story to make sense and not be sloppy writing like the prequels and TFA, they do.

You’re still ignoring the fact that it wasn’t explained in ROTJ as to why she wasn’t in STAR WARS or ESB. So why should another film have to pick up the slack because the OT had so so writing in that department?

Info: Bad news for anybody wanting to use the deleted scenes in a TFA fanedit or extended edition
Time

For the love of fuck…If you’re editing the PT there is only one audio track meaning that you can’t separate dialogue from music from sound effects and I know that must have made it a bitch to edit. Unlike a trilogy like the Nolan Batman films where there are like 2-3 audio tracks. All I want to know is if the BR Rips of TFA are the same. That’s all.

No clue who Darth Zannah, Lumiya or Darh Cogness are, but that’s not my point. I think it’s not a wise “dramatic” decision to have a young female hero in the main movies and AT THE SAME TIME to have a young female hero as the lead character in the spin-off movie. It’s like if every Star Trek show had a young overacting Canadian playing the captain. I just hope her sidekicks won’t be a young black guy and a “cute” non-humanoid droid.

Well my point was that gender doesn’t seem to matter when the character is competent so it doesn’t matter.

But now we get TFA which has a young woman as the main hero followed by Rogue One which has AGAIN a young woman as the main character. They’re just repeating the formula too soon - that’s the only thing which I was trying to say.

Well if it makes you feel any better Rouge One takes place WAAAAYY before TFA. So it’s not like it’s even close on the Star Wars timeline. And if we compare the gender of the leads in Star Wars films it’s actually equal. 2 Males and two Females.

I’m not saying it will not be a good film - I hope it WILL be a GREAT film. But I still am not happy they’re “trying to hit our nostalgia g-spot”. That doesn’t say I won’t enjoy it if it will be well written and well acted, that just mean I would prefer something new. Saying that I prefer apples to oranges doesn’t mean I don’t like oranges 😃

If it’s a good film and they don’t go overboard on the nostalgia milking like TFA did then I don’t see why them playing to our nostalgia would be a bad thing.

On a side note you’re not going to get anything that is completely alien to the OT unless they make an Old Republic film or if they make a film that takes place at least 100 years after ROTJ.

The prequel trilogy is stupid.

Again, I suppose there’s some “logical” explanation why Mon Mothma does not appear at the Death Star attack run briefing, does not appear as the attack on the Death Star is unfolding, does not appear at the medal ceremony, does not appear anywhere on Hoth…

But now, hey! She’s hanging out in a leadership role in the Rebel alliance in a movie scene that predates the 1977 movie.

Disney did not waste any money on continuity experts.

Well to be fair that’s a problem that originates in the OT though it is a minor one at best.

Why was Lando wearing Han’s clothes? Why was Rey wearing pretty much the same outfit she had on in the Force Vision? Why does Darth Vader have different helmets throughout the saga? Why are there no bras in space? And most importantly why are there pants in space? Seems like in a futuristic world pants would obsolete.

We will never know the answers to these compelling…these vital questions.

Oh, and polished floors to the Empire are an addition that comes straight from TFA. OT Star Destroyers and sets had dull floors I think. (everything reflective screams non-used universe to me in star wars).

Looks pretty shiny to me:

=P

That’s reflective, but not 100% polished. It does look used. Compare it with TFA.

Which is over 30 years later…

No, you should respect that somone has their own opinion but the opinion it’s self…no. If someone told me that in their opinion minorities were inferior or that pedophiles or serial killers weren’t evil (I know these are extreme examples) I would not respect those opinions at all.

An opinion about an artistic work is different from an opinion about morality . . . .

Like politics or morality an opinion is still an opinion and the consensus is that everyone can have them no matter how reprehensible or misguided they are. And a lot of people also believe that like morality opinions on media whether it be movies, video games or music are subjective.

Well but that’s the whole problem - the ONLY reason they’re doing it as a E4 prequel is that they want to use pre-existing things well known to the general public. It’s a business decision, not an artistic decision. That’s the whole reason why these spin-off movies do exist.

If it ends up being a good film why would it matter they’re trying to hit our nostalgia g-spot?

That was AMAZING! Anyone that wasn’t excited by that is DEAD INSIDE.

I can’t necessarily imagine contrarians who hate most things and condescend to people who happen to enjoy things feel very good on the inside. Why else would they try to tear other people down for what they like?

So… another female hero? Why? We have a young chick as the lead character in the new trilogy.

She seems to know how to handle herself. I don’t know if you were privy to this information but strong and competent woman are known to be in Star Wars. Leia, Rey, Darth Zannah, Darth Cogness, Asajj Ventress, Lumiya etc.

Just in case you didn’t know.

I hate that they simply use the nostalgic factor instead of doing something new. Hey look - the Death Star. AGAIN. Oh look - Star destroyers. I remember those from my childhood. Oh look - the boring woman from Episode 6 - I sort of remember her. I remember all those things, so I guess I have a reason to go see the movie it and buy some toys, sorry, I meant “action figures”, right?

Well…if this is set right before STAR WARS why wouldn’t they have the classic imagery?

Other than the OT I’m not exactly sure I’d even consider watching a movie you’d consider “good”. Considering of course that a so called Brilliant movie has gotten considerably worse reviews than a film you consider mediocre.

Have you seen this movie ? Do you know what I’m talking about ? Do you know Brad Bird cinema ? I real don’t care about institutionnalized reviews. I remember AOTC declared the best SW ever by many reviews in 2002, so, imdb, really ?

Anyway, like I said: you get what you deserve. I want more, you want less. You’re the lucky ones to enjoy so much inconsistant movies. I would love to have the ability to lower my taste but I can’t. Sorry.

It’s not just imdb, it’s also Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic and both critics and the public gave these scores so the consensus among them is that it’s far from brilliant. Even if the film is good, saying it’s brilliant would seem to be hyperbolic. Which doesn’t surprise me in the least.

But we already know how you feel about the idea of female leads, so your comments here are hardly surprising.

“Bad” female leads (like Rey and probably this Rogue One). Have you seen Tomorrowland ? Brillant movie, great female lead. You should try to watch good movies.

The Divergent Series: Rogue one

(People get what they deserve: shitty SW movies for young adults wrapped with nostalgia. This is getting worse every year. Ep VII looks like a masterpiece now in comparaison)

People who preemptively decide they want to dislike something/everything get what they deserve: nothing enjoyable.

Those people are usually dead on the inside so that’s a bonus I guess.
