What didn't you like about TFA? SPOILERS

The way Han and Chewie were introduced wasn’t bad, but after they step off the MF it just goes down hill.

I disagree in terms of characterization but the Rathtar scene wasn’t that good from an entertainment stand point.

I can agree with that, but it’s another case of being poorly written, could have been handled better.

Can you elaborate please?

Giant pig creature on Jakku - Bad practical effect

Not the best but not bad either

Unkar Plutt - Bad practical effect mixed with bad CG

Kind of agree

Maz Kanata - Bad CG

I disagree. Her CGI was good (better than I remember when watching it in the theaters) but she didn’t have to be CGI

Rathtars - Bad CG

Agree

Snoke - Bad CG

Another case of me thinking that when in theaters but was greatly surprised when I saw the Blu-Ray for the first time. He actually looks pretty good but just like for Maz it didn’t have to be all CGI.

The creature on the mechanical steed that captures BB-8 - Bad Practical Effect

Vehemently disagree

The “space” battles over Takodana and SKB - over the top misuse of CG

Doesn’t matter to me. It looked real and that’s all that matters.

During the battle over Takodana, when Finn stops to watch the dogfight, the end of that sequence some storm troopers in front of a wall get blown up by a X-wing - Really bad and noticeable CG

Don’t remember.

It’s a reasonable enough point I guess. I don’t know, I play video games very rarely. The only game I’ve looked forward to since Red Dead Redemption is the hopeful release of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Don’t get your hopes up on that one. GTA VI has already been announced and literally no official comment on Red Dead Redemption 2 has been made.

They won’t release two GTAs in a row.

Well if they do release GTA VI it will probably be in 2018 or 19 so there is room for them to release a sequel to Red Dead Redemption.

Either way, V gave me my GTA fill for at least a lifetime.

I hear that; I have beaten that game at least 5 times and I won’t play it again until I get a better graphics card so I can install the Pinnacle of V mod.

The Force Awakens: Official Review Thread - ** SPOILERS **

That’s true and it does diminish the implausibility of Luke surviving a space battle but it doesn’t negate it outright. And you could say the same for Rey and her flying ability even though she said in the film that she has flown ships before but never off world or that she also used a flight simulator coming up. The Force is what makes these feats possible.

IMO the plot was about finding Luke, the main problem though is the empty filler consisting of:

 • Han’s freighter

Though it was a good way to establish Han’s character this was filler

 • Maz’s Cantina
 • The Starkiller Base

I disagree. Remember the name of the film is The Force Awakens so not only is it about finding Luke; the plot of the film is also about a lowly scavenger finding she has this immense power within her and her flashback alongside her interrogation at the hand of Kylo Ren was her first step into a larger world. Now the destruction of SKB was filler.

I am still pissed that they promoted the practical effects so much, only for them to be mediocre at best compared to what was accomplished 30+ years ago. Overall effects wise TFA is just another Hollywood CG wankfest to me, and I think the lack luster practical effects were just an excuse to not bother with them in VIII.

Personally I don’t care about the amount of practical effects they used in TFA or lack thereof because most things looked real. Which is something no one can say for the prequels.

Stuff like how Kylo feels about Vader’s turn and the relationship between the Resistence and Republic is in the film. It’s just not spoonfed to the audience though things like R2 waking should have been fully explained because it was a giant plot convenience.

EDIT:

Luke using a T-16 doesn’t fully explain how he was so good in a space battle. Flying an X-Wing is one thing flying in a dog fight is another.

Wow that is great! So where is the OOT release then?

Original Original Trilogy?

Original Oatmeal Trilogy?

Original Outback Trilogy?

If you’re actually talking about the OUT then:

Fans like us are a tiny minority. Even within the hardcore fans, there is a huge PT generation of fans who couldn’t care less about OOT and actually prefer PT parasites in OT. Then there is a new generation who will grow up with ST and who will not particularly care either.

Even if your projections are low there would still be a rather large profit involved in releasing the OUT on Blu-Ray. Not as big as something like TFA and most likely VIII and IX but there’s still no reason for them to not make easy money.

Is that some sort of half assed way of endorsing that terrible joke?

No, I thought Silver was responding to me. I’m definitely not going to wade in on any bigoted nonsense. I was just in a bad mood yesterday upon hearing Lucasfilm has no plans to restore the OOT, and felt the appropriate response was to bash the rubbish films they continue to make.

It would be a lot more than a few millions of they released the OUT in Bluray or 4k. It’s something most fans want

Most fans, regular ones that make billions, go see the films and that is it.

Considering that they still make huge amounts of money from every re-release of the OT having the OUT on Blu-Ray would be much bigger deal and would bring in a bigger yield based on that alone. Even some of the more casual fans would pick them up because of the novelty of having an important piece of cinematic history in high definition for the first time.

Negative opinion and one reason for that opinion are basically the same thing. Your zeal to police all the negative opinions of TFA is rather sad.

I only disagree with the inane ones. Also you’re resorting to hyperbole (again) because I have agreed with more than a few complaints regarding TFA.

Lord Haseo said:

“TFA supposedly being a rehash = The OUT won’t be released” is a nonsensical statement.

I did not say that but that is probably what you perceived due to your zeal. What I was saying is that if they make billions with something, you really can’t expect them to care to put an effort into something else that will make a few millions.

It would be a lot more than a few millions of they released the OUT in Bluray or 4k. It’s something most fans want, it wouldn’t take all that much resources to do properly and it would make them a lot of money. There’s no reason good they wouldn’t. Even if the ST didn’t exist and Disney had the rights to Star Wars anyway there would be ample reason for them to release it.
