What song lyrics inspire you to look forward to seeing the sun every day life allows you to?
Time

Pick Yourself Up
Nat “King” Cole & George Shearing

Pick yourself up…
Take a deep breath…
Dust yourself off
And start all over again.

Nothing’s impossible, I have found
For when my chin is on the ground.
I pick myself up,
Dust myself off
And start all over again.

Don’t lose your confidence
If you slip
Be grateful for a pleasant trip
And pick yourself up,
Dust yourself off
And start all over again.

Work like a soul inspired
Until the battle of the day is won.
You may be sick and tired,
But you’ll be a man, my son.

Will you remember the famous men
Who had to fall to rise again
They picked themselves up
Dust themselves off
And start’d all over again.

Work like a soul inspired
Till the battle of the day is won.
You may be sick and tired,
But you’ll be a man, my son.

Will you remember the famous men
Who had to fall to rise again?
So take a deep breath…
Pick yourself up…
Dust yourself off
And start all over again.

All those wink, wink moments and references and jokes to the OT got really tiring.

Definitely. It was to be expected but things like the 14 parsecs thing were way too on the nose.

I disliked most of those references, but to me the “worst offender” was the chessboard’s scene: it made me shake my head 😄

Huh…That’s actually the one I can tolerate the most. If that had been the only overt fan service moment I’d be happy with it.

The Force Awakens: Official Review Thread - ** SPOILERS **

Point to where it’s hinted about Kylo’s feelings towards Vader

So Kylo is about to undertake the task of killing his father which makes him reassure Supreme Leader Snoke as to the fact that with his training he will not be seduced. Who else do we know that was seduced by the enemy when placed in a life or death situation with a family member? The very person we discover shortly after that Kylo idolizes. Vader

the Republic disarming 90% of their military and leading Leia to form the Resistance please.

I never said anything about the New Republic disarming 90% of it’s military; I just said they supported the Resistance and that is what I’m going to prove

From the opening crawl:

With the support of the REPUBLIC, General Leia Organa leads a brave RESISTANCE. She is desperate to find her brother Luke and gain his help in restoring peace and justice to the galaxy.

and from Hux’s speech

At this very moment in a system far from here, the New Republic lies to the galaxy while secretly supporting the treachery of the loathsome Resistance!

I never argued that it was explained how he performed so well in a space battle. I was talking about his ability to fly an X-Wing in the first place despite not being part of the Rebels before recently. But I’ll get into his performance too.
A short conversation with Obi-Wan leads to the audience knowing that Luke has become an excellent pilot and Luke’s remarks on the T-16 being similar to the X-Wings and being able to hit ~2 meter Womp Rats on Tatooine alleviates the issue of the audience’s suspension of disbelief being broken during the Trench run. And as SilverWook said, Luke was in real danger during parts of the Trench Run, especially during the end where Vader was about to shoot him down. The only reason Luke is alive is because Han and Chewie came back, something which doesn’t break suspension of disbelief because Han and Chewie are seen becoming attached to Luke/Leia over the course of the film, Han coming back to help save their asses is very in character. It also should be mentioned that Tarkin and Vader were extremely cocky about the Death Star as shown in a few scenes so they didn’t take the Rebel forces as seriously as they should have. All of this helps bit by bit to strengthen the audience’s suspension of disbelief and Luke’s survival in the end.

Even with them saying things to shrink the disbelief factor it doesn’t dissipate it all. Womp rats can’t fire back and the T-16 did give him flying experience but it isn’t the same type of craft as an X-Wing and he didn’t have any difficulty flying. Call Rey a Mary Sue if you want but she at least struggled flying the Falcon and her overall performance was more realistic as she has never flown the Falcon before even though has flown other ships before. And even though he was in danger and was saved the likelihood of a pilot flying in such a circumstance without proper training would still be next to nil. But then again The Force…

Kylo Ren is probably one of my favorite SW character.

If his connection to the Dark Side does not falter he could be the strongest Dark Side warrior we’ve even seen in a Star Wars film. Also in terms of his character he was layered in TFA but they could flesh him out even more in the Sequels which could lead him to becoming one of the all time greats in terms of movie villains.

Cough… Rey.

No

and don’t even try to say Kylo Ren is one dimensional. Because somehow I’ve heard that one too.

And I made an offhanded joke, I wasn’t the one to start a whole discussion on it.

Satire…ah I see

Look, TFA is not a bad film and I think everyone who flat out says it’s crap without giving a reason isn’t worth debating anyway.

A lot of people don’t do that though; a decent percentage of people who don’t know why the hate the movie often make up stuff to create an illusion of an argument. I can at least appreciate people that can pinpoint why they don’t like the film with stuff that’s actually in the film even if I think they’re wrong.

However I feel TFA is an immensely disappointing film.

I’m sorry you feel that way. I hope you enjoy VIII and IX though.

I’m not defending the prequels, but Lucas tried very hard to make something new and exciting; it had the similar story beats to ANH, but it was its own film.

Mostly

However at least it was a new Star Wars film.

Mostly

No matter which way you spin it, Disney/Lucasfilm went with the absolute laziest, safest approach they possibly could to rebooting the franchise because they cared more about $$$ than artistic merit. That’s fair enough, they’re a company, they want money, but it doesn’t mean people have to like it.

Certainly. From a fan perspective I would have preferred a more original plot (or at least he illusion of originality with the PT) but they catered to both new and old audiences and that’s a hard decision to make.

The light backstory of TFA about Luke’s Jedi Temple is about a thousand times more interesting than what we got.

I agree but I can also say the same for the backstory of SW to some degree. Also we have 2 more films we haven’t seen in the ST while the backstory for TFA is stretched out over years so I think we should be patient.

Claiming the complaints are made by those who simply ‘don’t understand the film’ is arrogant at best.

I’m not saying in all cases people who complain about the film don’t understand it but there have been a lot of people who don’t and still criticize it. Just look on any thread regarding TFA on this site and you’ll see. I will admit most of the more outrageous claims I’ve heard were from Facebook and Youtube…

TFA is filled with one dimensional characters

With the exception of Poe and Chewie no there is not. Unless you want to include Phasma, Snoke and Hux.

massive plot holes

Something every Star Wars film has but sure.

inconsistencies galore

I would say “galore” is hyperbolic but I kind of agree

because apparently a pretty looking film is enough these days even when the actual content of the film is a joke.

I disagree but you’re entitled to your opinion.

Regardless, I really don’t want to derail this thread and get yelled at by the mods, so I’m not saying anything more on the matter, at least here.

Then let’s take this to another thread if that’s what you’d fancy.

EDIT:

Also you started the TFA bashing so don’t even…

As if we haven’t had enough of those jokes on the internet.

We’ve had 17 years of prequel bashing, five months of sequel bashing is nothing.

The prequels seriously deserved it. Also they were bashed for a multitude of reasons. The same can be said of TFA but most of the complaints I’ve read/heard are inane or is based on not understanding the film. The “TFA is a remake/rehash of SW” is valid to a certain degree but it’s said so often that it’s gotten annoying. It’s gotten to the point in which people call it a rehash when the topic isn’t even being discussed.
