Is there anything that you actually like about the prequels?

The first comment is the funniest. The criticism of ANH’s duel is totally bonkers to me. Aside from that unnecessary spin Obi-Wan makes, it looks fairly realistic. So when and why did this “The first duel is so poorly choreographed” schtick began?

Probably the day of. I mean they’re actually sword fighting but there’s something about that fight that I can’t stand. Maybe it’s the repetitive moves, maybe it’s the spin or maybe it’s the fact that Vader should rip through Obi-Wan’s guard in like 3 seconds.

What is your personal canon?
Time
  1. Everything involving Naga Sadow and Exar Kun
  2. Knights of The Old Republic
  3. Knights of The Old Republic II
  4. Revan
  5. Star Wars: The Old Republic (only because of the entry in the Book of The Sith about Malgus)
  6. Darth Bane: Path of Destruction
  7. Darth Bane: Rule of Two
  8. Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil
  9. Darth Plagueis
  10. Fall of The Jedi: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
  11. Fall of The Jedi: Episode II - Attack of The Clones
  12. The Clone Wars
  13. Dark Disciple
  14. Revenge of The Sith novelization
  15. Lords of The Sith
  16. Tarkin
  17. Rebels
  18. STAR WARS
  19. Weapon of A Jedi
  20. The Empire Strikes Back
  21. Return of The Jedi
  22. The Force Awakens

I’m not sure if Leia actually gave birth in The Last Command so I won’t include it because that may conflict with TFA.

I went back and reread the definitions you provided and that is EXACTLY how I would describe both those scenes. Both critical to the story and in both places it jerks me out of the movie, disrupts the flow of the story, and both are logical inconsistent. That makes them plot holes. And by those definitions, my personal perspective is inherent to whether I consider it a plot hole or not. Your opinion as to whether it is a plot hole or not is irrelevant to whether or not it fits the definition in my viewing experience. It matters to you and your viewing experience, but not mine.

There is nothing about Rey and Finn managing to evade the one Star Destroyer in orbit around Jakku that is inherently impossible or inconsistent with the way the Star Wars universe works. Nor is Han conveniently being close enough to pick them up as soon as he did. Heck, with how this franchise has worked before, you could easily just chalk both those up to being “the will of the Force” or something. And when it comes to the gang seeing the destruction of the Republic system… Technically speaking, that is a plot-hole in that it blatantly breaks the laws of physics, but it’s clearly done for dramatic effect; Would that scene really have the same impact if someone just walked by and said “Guys! The First Order just blew up a star system!!”? (Putting aside the matter of me literally never having seen a single person who genuinely cared about the destruction of those planets…) I mean both that and what the movie itself did would have served the same purpose in the narrative, but one makes the scene more dramatic.

No, you want a legit plot-hole? Leia remembering her mother. That is blatantly impossible considering how Revenge of the Sith showed us that she died immediately after she was born. The “plot-holes” you’re complaining about are more on the level of saying that Luke’s plan to free Han from Jabba was really convoluted and stupid and claiming that that’s a plot-hole.

Now that I’ve seen that I retract my statement. Now there’s no reason to ever watch TPM ever again.

The other duels were even further away than Obi-Wan’s lightsaber was from Maul.

Especially the awful Yoda vs Dooku duel. I wish he had made a video about that one too.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PlotHole

Plot Holes are those gaps in a story where things happen without a logical reason. When a Plot Hole involves something essential to a story’s outcome, it can hurt the believability, for those who are bothered by such things. Hitting a Plot Hole at high speed can damage your Willing Suspension of Disbelief.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plot_hole

In fiction, a plot hole, plothole or plot error is a gap or inconsistency in a storyline that goes against the flow of logic established by the story’s plot. Such inconsistencies include such things as illogical or impossible events, and statements or events that contradict earlier events in the storyline.

So that you actually know what a plot hole is.

“without logical reason”

Empirical

“gaps in a story”

Empirical

“hurt the believability”

Kind of empirical

“damage your Willing Suspension of Disbelief”

Opinionated

“illogical or impossible events”

Empirical

“for those who are bothered by such things”

Opinionated…wrong again for the most part.

The main crux you should be getting out of the definition is “without logical reason”, “gaps in the story” etc. and most of the things you posted don’t fit the criteria. But no one can tell you anything so it’s pointless to even talk to you. Take care. Also fyi you completely ignored the second definition even though you quoted it.

If you want to put your personal feelings onto definitions and want to be willfully ignorant about what actually counts as a plot hole (you know…one that actually coincides with the definition) then by all means. If definitions are at your whim then there’s no point in discussing anything with you.

You posted definitions that are very much based on the viewers perspective not on some objective criteria.

If definitions were at the mercy of personal belief dictionaries wouldn’t exist in the first place.

There really is no reason to start insulting each other over a difference of opinion. Mine is quite valid even if you can’t manage to wrap your heard around it.

At this juncture this isn’t about your opinion; it’s about you trying to circumvent facts because of your personal beliefs. Also I was able to wrap my mind around your points when I refuted them to which you never even gave a proper rebuttal. So there’s that.

Right, which is impscum level posting.

As is the post that prompted this entire ordeal. I’m not sure why you’re riding my ass when I was merely responding to an unwarranted attack. That’s like someone slapping me across the face for no reason and then you being mad because I punched him in the face in response.

Also me saying that still doesn’t make your huge leap correct. If you had said something like “You sound like a condescending ass” instead of something more specific then you would be right.

I love violence in movies. Replace most sex scenes with violence and you have a better movie.

I don’t know about that. I think it depends on who’s having sex and why. The same applies to action scenes. I would gladly remove both scenes for a scene with loads of character development, something that pushes the plot forward or building of suspense.

Some Death Metal album covers have creatures with tentacles on it…

Melodic death metal has none of the Gore or over the top quality which is why I prefer it. You won’t find anything stupid from a band like Insomniun for instance.

Doom Metal too from what I have heard. I don’t remember Candlemass ever talk about serial killers and sacrificing someone to Satan. But then again I listen to them for the riffs and solos. Lyrics have never been a important part of listening to Metal for me.

Yup, exactly why those two scenes are plot holes in my book. Both took me right out of the movie.

There is no “in my book” when it comes to definitions. You can’t change a definition based on your personal beliefs.

Ah, but you provided the definition and to me both those perfectly meet your definition.

Maybe that’s because I use words I know the definitions to lol

I’m telling you that when I fist saw TFA, both those scenes interrupted the film and for my experience they exactly match the provided definition of a plot hole.

I don’t really care about how you felt. A vast majority of the things you said were plot holes were actually plot conveniences, inconsistencies with how reality works (like the people at Maz’s Castle seeing the Hosnian System being destroyed), things you didn’t understand in the story or things that didn’t match the dictionary definition of a plot hole. Also, how does your first impression of a film have to do with what you know now?

R2 waking up didn’t have the same effect.

Because that’s not a plot hole either. It’s a plot convenience. Plus, we’ve been kind of conditioned to overlook stuff like that in Star Wars.

It’s like you didn’t even read my post…I don’t care about anyone’s opinion regarding my music especially since you can’t/won’t substantiate exactly why you think your music is superior or even why you like the music you listen to in the first place. Also, you shouldn’t care about my opinion regarding the music you like.

Tyrphanax said:
I don’t even mind a lot of metal, but you have to admit some of the song names are fucking ridiculous

No argument here. Me and Frink had the same conversation in another thread.

and listening to a super heavy song about crushing babies with a chariot of blood does not make you a smarter/better person. If you like it, fine, whatever, but you have to understand that musical taste is subjective and as crazy as it may sound, some people don’t want to listen to a song about eating the face of a dying virgin while banging the actual axe wound you gave her on a Norse battlefield.

When the fuck did I say or even allude to any of this?

But I think we can all agree that the only musical genres that will enlighten you are classical and jazz, and with that said:

I agree with that statement but isn’t music supposed to be subjective? There is someone on the planet who thinks otherwise.

I’m okay with listening to music that’s not geared for people who are in their early 40’s and pretentious teens who want to be in their early 40’s. Also my shit has actual content. Maybe not lyrically but riff, solo and drums wise your dad music can’t really compete.

This is one of the most pretentious posts I’ve ever read. It goes far beyond almost anything posted by imperialscum.

Only reacting to initial prodding.

The ads for the DVD and Blu-Ray releases are right in labeling it “the movie experience of a generation.”

Absolutely. If Episodes VIII and IX are anywhere near as good people will see TFA as the rebirth of the franchise.

Honestly a lot of that is going to ride on Rogue One and Han Solo as well. If those aren’t at least good, then people will start to be a bit less enthusiastic about Lucasfilms new direction.

If Rouge One is bad then people will doubt if future Spin Off films will be any good. If the Han Solo flick is bad it will only confirm those initial suspicions. Episode VIII will have come out already and people’s reception to that film it crucial for every thing that comes after it. Whether it be in the main series or spin offs.
